I read She's Not There by Joy Fielding. I read it in two days so it obviously held my interest but I didn't love the ending. 3 stars. I'm also in the middle of The Likeness by Tana French. Liking this one so far.

I read: Flight of the Silvers by Daniel Price. 5/5 stars. This was a re-read for me as I have an advanced copy of the second book waiting for me. I loved this book the first time around and just as much the second time. It's sci-fi - I thought it was original with great world building and plotting. The characters aren't always likable, but they are interesting. I can't wait to see where the story goes. I really liked Flight of the Silvers too. I will also be re-reading it before I read the rest of the trilogy although I may wait until the third book comes out before I do that. Save

Plus, I got an ARC from Penguin and am starting the second book today. Hope it's just as good as the first book!

I finished THE SECRET WIFE by Gill Paul about the royal family and a secret love affair in Russia post WWI. I enjoyed the historical content and the story line. It was easy to read and enjoyable. Now I'm reading UNSELFIE : WHY EMPATHETIC KIDS SUCCEED IN OUR ALL ABOUT ME WORLD by Michele Borba. It's kind of the inspiration for our older dd's head of school's mantra so I thought I'd give it a try and I'm really enjoying it. It gives causes and consequences of a lack of empathy in kids today. It also gives hands on ideas / activities for increasing empathy in kids, increasing their ability to tune into the feelings of others, helping them understand different perspectives, helping them keep calm in stressful situations so they can focus on the feelings of everyone involved and so on. I had an opportunity to put some advice into action last week at a dance competition when my little dd was upset with an outcome of one of her performances. I had the language to discuss her attitude with her and help her focus on others and how they felt instead of her just focusing on herself and not caring how her actions were affecting others. It worked so well that I'm sold on the book and I'm loving it . My daughter's middle school class is doing a Socratic seminar around Empathy so she and I have been discussing this a lot. I am so glad you mentioned this book! I will check it out for sure!

I read my Book of the Month book from last month, Killers of the Flower Moon. It was interesting learning about a part of history I had never heard about, but I got bogged down in the minutiae and extra detail that was included.

Our book club decided to do a free month and we're reading what we want and reporting back. I'm starting with To Capture What We Cannot Keep by Beatrice Colin "Set against the construction of the Eiffel Tower, this novel charts the relationship between a young Scottish widow and a French engineer who, despite constraints of class and wealth, fall in love." jassy I just read The Kitchen House and really enjoyed it.

I read The Song of the Lark by Willa Cather.
It's hard to believe this book was written in 1915. The main character, Thea, is a very modern and ambitious woman who is willing to sacrifice everything for her singing career. I didn't like Thea very much, but I felt like I understood her.
Cather's books never disappoint me.
Now I'm reading Tell Me Three Things by Julie Buxbaum. I'm enjoying it so far. The main character is very relatable. I'm so glad I'm not in high school again and trying desperately to figure out where I fit in.
