shutterbug2sue when did she go to Disney? I remember that she had a trip planned that was postponed but I don't remember when the original trip was planned and when she ultimately went. The retreat was planned in January for the end of April. Her original post about the pacemaker was in the beginning of March (I only remember because an out of town friend was in town around the same time). It seemed like it wasn't that long ago. She and her sister and daughter went. Maybe it was longer ago than I thought... but January or February? They had bad accommodations in whatever Disney resort area they were in and got to move to her favorite one. ETA - I am not shutterbug2sue though so I hope you don't mind me throwing in my two cents.

it was Beth all along? are you talking about that Smack Blog that they talked about on the old 2peas board? Beth as in Beth Anne? really? WOW WOW WOW!!! Completely unsubstantiated rumor. It may have been. Or it may have been coincidence that after her death the blog stopped. Saveok. then i'll just file this under "guess we'll never know".

So if BethAnne was the original smack blog owner who owns the blog now that people post to? There's a new blog? I'm so behind. i haven't seen the newest one in awhile - but from what I did see is that it isn't as bad as the other smack blogs. More of a 'did you hear this' kinda stuff.

Well I don't know of her and even after her name came up, I don't recognize her so I have no preconceived notions of who she is. Unfortunately that is the world we live in now. If she can present a story (truth or not) that drives folks to donate money, then she has every right to do it. I would expect anyone who finds it insincere would just not donate and stop listening to her, visiting her website, etc. As for you feeling resentful, I applaud your honesty about it but if she can do it, why shouldn't she? Because it's trashy, grasping behavior? There are many, many things we COULD do, but we don't because we have some, I don't know, standards? I could probably talk my mom into giving me a big check tomorrow, but I'm not going to. ETA oooops, I guess I did have more to say, after all. I'm not saying it's right or that we shouldn't be mad/pissed/disgusted, but the only reason it isn't popular is because we "determine" it to not be acceptable.

No, the new one was something like Scrapppy Chat or something like that? I didn't save the link - whenI heard about it and checked it out, it was pretty silent and dead.

People get sucked into this crap because they think they personally know this person because they are on the web. It make me nauseous, especially because she is quite possibly lying. I'd rather buy 100 pieces of scrap paper I don't need.

From her fb page. Your pacemaker battery is so low you hope it "hangs on until May 8th", but you postpone the surgery to go on a retreat to SLC? It's ridiculous that she even wrote that and people are taken in by it. Read people read.

I find it kind of ironic a Christian ministry insurance group won't insure a pre-existing condition.

I was just curious how you get a company who is presumably in the process of making money off their devices to donate it.... It happens all the time with donated devices of all sorts. You generally need to be uninsured and paperwork verifying income and the like needs to be submitted. It's a write off for the company. A little surprised at the timing as the story sounds like the registration people made the call, but I suspect they just had the information and Tracie was unaware at that moment. I sometimes cannot help but feel a little envious when people are able to obtain such help. It all kind of came back to me today as there was a big celebration for someone who had cancer who returned to work today. When I went out, there were no flowers, no meals, no cards. Same for when I came back. I did not ask anyone for financial help. I had good insurance and did not think it would affect us. We were lucky that we could still buy food, pay the utilities and even go on vacation. Still, we did take a hit because I was out of work and I was never able to get the same number of hours per month again... a battle I fight even to this day, oddly enough. I suppose anyone with a social media following of some sort would be able to get help. I have a friend who actually does not have a social media following but recently created a video that has been shared a great deal and she is getting financial help from that. She actually IS insured, but has a very high deductible plan and cannot work. She basically works per diem, so no work= no pay. She can't work her job during chemo and surgeries. This seems to be the thing to do. Doesn't matter if you have insurance or not. If something bad happens, someone will start a collection for you online. I don't think twice about it when it is within an actual physical community, such as when there was a tragedy for someone at work. It was a way to make the collection of the funds easy. I do raise an eyebrow when it's something like this, having seen too many that were not true. More that are true than not, but just the same...

I am so over the GoFundMe crap. Won't even touch the whole thanx-for-the-money-seeya-when-I-get-back-from-my-trip atrocity.
Oh, and yeah - there's a lot of us who still scrap!!

I confess to feeling a bit the same about my medical issues at the moment. I don't need money for treatment but I am working less and it's hard. Maybe we should start our own Go Fund Me pages? I just can't imagine having the balls!

I do raise an eyebrow when it's something like this, having seen too many that were not true. More that are true than not, but just the same... Thank you for the information, Melissa. That makes sense that a company could use it for a write-off. I'm trying not to be petty, but, I get a bit irritated that someone is given a device for free just because they don't have insurance, but the rest of us don't have the same opportunities because we have worked hard to be insured. My total bill last Fall came to almost $80,000 and although insurance paid a huge chunk, there was still a lot of out of pocket for us. I felt the same way when our daughters were in college and having to apply for the FAFSA... we aren't incredibly wealthy but make a decent living but the girls didn't stand a snowballs chance of getting financial help because of our income. Our nephew, who has parents that rarely see the need to work, however, was given money hand-over-fist. It just seems sometimes that we are penalized for working hard and having medical insurance. Sheesh, I DO sound petty..... Can someone start a Go-Fund me account for me? I need an attitude adjustment.... somewhere warm with a cool ocean breeze...

I find it kind of ironic a Christian ministry insurance group won't insure a pre-existing condition. A.) it's not insurance, it's a health share. There's a difference. I give money every month for others to help pay their bills. If I need help, then they help me. B.) If it's the same health share that I have, she had opportunity to spend a bit more and get full coverage. My group the cheapest plan is $50/mo. My husband and I each pay $150/mo PLUS $40/year for unlimited coverage (and partial coverage of pre-existing conditions). She had that same opportunity for not that much more money. If something happens to me, I pay $500 - period.

With a pacemaker, she should have; especially knowing she would need surgery.

I wouldn't have known it was a pea (recent or former) or who they were talking about at all if somebody else hadn't shared her name.

Like they said on the old Hee Haw show... "I never repeat gossip. So be sure and listen close the first time." Honestly, this Tracie woman has pretty much left herself wide open to this sort of examination of her motives and actions. If you live by the sword (seeking publicity and a "following"), you just might die by the sword (being public enough to have too many oopsy moments where you've revealed too much and been caught in own revelations).

I wouldn't pledge money, but I do pledge to do my part to fight the unfair advantages that the insurance companies have against individual patients and health care providers.

What does that have anything to do with her post? Who cares if she WAS a Pea? so all Peas are off limits if you are scamming someone?

I received a pacemaker in August 2015 and I am still paying that bill off. I now have chemo bills on top of this bill. One of my best friends wanted to start a go fund me so that I would stay home and focus on chemo. I just can't do it though.

I guess I am cold hearted - I don't contribute to those kinds of appeals. Unless I really know the person (in real life) and I really know that there is a need, I won't donate. And those in real life are usually connected in some way to my church or another church I know, and our church will collect the money and get it directly to where the payment needs to go

I take it from Kerri's post you're talking about Tracie Claiborne? She was at 2peas for a long while, wasn't she? Wonder if she visits here!! Interesting. She's a member here already.
