of one color??? I like what I've seen on Youtube where people use colored doilies for layering so I thought I'd branch out from the plain white ones I have. But as far as I can tell, you have to make a lifelong commitment if you want to buy colored doilies because they come packaged in Costco-style bulk quantities. Doodlebug has a whole array of fun colors, but there are 75 single colored doilies in a pack and even the limited colors in the Recollection line have 50 in a pack. REALLY?!? It would take me 5 lifetimes to use 50, much less 75 turquoise doilies. And multiply that by all the different colors I'd like to try and we're talking hundreds of wasted little pieces of fancy paper. Wouldn't it make more sense to offer variety packs with 5-10 doilies in a few different colors?

Oh wow!!! I was going to suggest the Doodlebug ones having seen them at my LSS, but I had no idea they were 75 to a pack! I totally agree with you...it would make much more sense if they were sold in mixed packs.

I felt exactly the same way and did two things. I bought one pack of white doilies, because you can always color them, and I bought a large and small doily die so I can cut them to match. (Ebay ftw...2 dies were cheaper than 1 pack of doilies!)
ETA: What we really need to do is have a doily swap!

I think it's because doilies are so cheap to make that the brand give you loads so they can justify charging you a higher price for them. The idea is that you see it that you're getting a lot for your money.
But yes I completely agree. I'd like to see doilie variety packs with a few different colours.

This is the exact reason a lot of my recent pages have doilies on them. I really wanted a particular design I had seen on youtube and could only buy it in a box of 1,000 doilies. I've probably used 20 of them so I'll be using those doilies for, oh, 25 lifetimes.

I totally agree. That's why I joined a group buy with some online friends, and we shared. I think there were about 10 of each color in the packs we got. They were the Doodlebug brand, and I still have most of them. I buy white, and I also have doily dies.

I have looked at the Recollections brand doilies so many times and walked away because they're not on sale. I'll buy them if they're on sale or if I have coupon. Otherwise it's not worth it. I only have white and kraft. I haven't even opened the kraft ones. The white package has lasted a really long time.

I went on a doily kick about oh two months I would say ago. Then I pulled dasmith2 into it with me and we split all the doodlebug colors except white and black I think when I found them on sale. Even then I am drowning in doilies! They are fun and I don't get too mad when one doesn't come off the "pack" right.

Make your own colors I have one where I stamped on it distressed the edges with some Tim Holtz inked and a smidgins of metallic gold pen. It turned out nice. You are right about the amount.

I have only bought doilies at the Dollar Tree. I have white in many sizes, Valentine's day colors, Christmas colors, silver, and gold.
I have more doilies than I will ever use.

I love them and at the the time I wanted them there were no sellers on eBay or Etsy selling smaller lots so I bit the bullet and bought the huge box.

I saw 1 on Etsy today when I went searching to see what it looked like. Are these paper or are they fabric?

I thought that the recollection brand had less in the package. But I think I could easily use 50 of my most used colors, definitely not 1000. Chinagirl828, you need to see how many doilies you can use on one page😂

I've got to start watching videos. I started using doilies a couple years ago and colors would be fun. I know a couple of the big box stores carry them in the party section so maybe I'll get some with a coupon. I can't imagine the mess I'd make trying to dye/color my own. Oh wait, yes I can and that's why I'll just buy them.

I use sprays on the white ones.
One of the crops I attend had a vendor who had a ton of Doodlebug doilies. She divided up the colors and put maybe 3 of each color in a pack and sold them that way. Everyone snapped those up and all were sold.

I have ordered TWO doily dies because of this thread and I have never once used a doily on any paper project (I have sons, somehow doilies don't fit with their sports or gaming pages or cards I make for them). Somehow, I can't stop looking at pretty doilies now. I'm thinking they'll make cute additions to my macaron cookie packaging.

I gave a bunch to my fellow Story Campers, but yeah, next year, everyone is getting Christmas cards with doily trees on them.
Seriously though, if anyone needs some doilies, let me know.

A few years ago there was a Utube on dyeing them with food coloring. It was quick and easy and not really messy. Bet you can Google it. I would do it but my computer is s-o-o-o-o slow tonight and Utube make it worse.

oh my goodness, that's ridiculous! I hate it when you have to buy waaaay more of something than you want. Especially something that could be a cheap little impulse buy if it wasn't packaged in 100s. Multi color sampler packs seem like such an obvious idea. Maybe we should all write to Doodlebug... ? I've recently started using doilies on cards and I quite like them. On flowery watercolor-y cards at least. But tbh I have never bought doilies. I go to a fancy lunch at my local community college on Fridays and they have nice white doilies about 4" wide under the soup cups, so I gather them up before anything spills on them and take them home to craft with. I have a nice little stash of them. I guess I should try coloring them sometime. Also, is DOILY a really strange looking word to other people, or is it just me? I can handle the plural, it's only a little odd, but "doily" just seems wrong.
