She's ultimately going to be fine, and by all accounts she's only about an hour away, but I really feel for her while she's finding her way. She's introverted and suffers from mild anxiety, so as a momma my heart just hurts for her while she goes through this painful, but necessary wing spreading.

Prayers for you.
I understand and your heart hurting. I will be in your shoes in a few weeks, only dd suffers from anorexia. We are meeting with a potential counselor next week (a condition of her going away) so hopefully I will feel slightly better.
Being a a mom never ends........

My anxiety prone introvert did surprisingly well at college. It forced her to push her personal envelope and it worked out well. I hope the same for your dd, but I know how much I worried about my dd, so I know how you feel!

Good luck to your DD (and you!)
I have the exact same situation coming up in 2 weeks, but she'll be 5 hours away across the state. She's very much an introvert and has anxiety, so I'm just praying all goes well for her. She had a minor break down yesterday morning about everything, but got over it eventually.

I'm with you. We dropped our youngest yesterday at the University of Houston yesterday. He, too, is an introvert, with pretty bad anxiety. Fortunately one of his sisters just moved to Houston, but it's a big city. I'm praying he sticks with it.

Hang in there! It's so difficult. My college senior just left for school on Thursday. I admit that I don't cry anymore. I talk to her all the time, and it's OK. She's growing up, and I'm happy to see her do her own thing, even if it's weird around here without her. My anxiety prone introvert did surprisingly well at college. It forced her to push her personal envelope and it worked out well. I hope the same for your dd, but I know how much I worried about my dd, so I know how you feel! My younger dd is a senior this year, and I'm already worried about next year. Your dd sounds just like her, so I am hoping that this will be the case for mine as well!

Don't be surprised if your dd flourishes and comes out of her shell a bit. Being in the dorms sort of forces you to make friends and become a bit more social. I'll be wishing the best for your dd and our other college kids on this thread.

Hugs to you and your dd I'm pretty lucky in that my dd#1 will be attending the local University which is a 15 minute train ride from our house so she is obviously living at home ... I don't have to deal with her flying the nest quite yet

We live in Sugar Land, so not far away, but her dad and I thought is was important that she get the full experience so she is living on campus. Her dad works downtown, and my sister lives close by, but I know these introverted kids have a tough time just getting out there. What dorm is yours in, and what is his/her major?

My daughter is a first year at U of H too. She is an introvert but is one who makes friends easily. She is living in Cougar village 2 and is a creative writing major.
Any idea how to address mail and packages yet? She doesn't seem to have a clue?

We just dropped both boys at school today and I'm a mess! One is a senior and one is a freshman. We live in NYS and they go to school in Florida.
Of course, drop off coincides with my period due any day now. Tears were flowing!

She's hoping they discuss it in today's floor meeting. www.uh.edu/af-university-services/printing-and-postal/student-mail/student-mail-information-guide/

Just reassure him that it's normal to feel this way. Kyra is in Cougar Village 2. She's currently an art major but is planning to switch to either psychology or education

Ah yes. The everything cry. I'm very familiar with this one How's your DD doing? How were her first few days? How are you doing? She seems to be doing OK. Although I have only talked to her by text since Sunday. Having a purpose (getting to class, homework, fingerprints) seems to be helping her anxiety, although she hasn't found the courage to go to the dining hall yet. I actually am headed to ups in about an hour because I need to ship her some forgotten item. Thank you for asking!

I understand! We'll be dropping off our only child on Friday. Like yours, only an hour away. Also an introvert suffering from anxiety. She will be rooming with her BFF who totally understands and respects dd's anxiety issues. Both girls are adamant that they WILL get involved with on-campus events and both understand that they need to make friends outside of the 2 of them (so they always have other options when 1 is busy). I'm hoping on-campus living will help her mature a little and help her see that not all kids her age are what she perceived in high school. Good luck!
