Caron Cakes has come out with their new colours for fall. I am sure you all knew this already. I found the colour I need. It's at 0.29 seconds of the video. www.youtube.com/watch?v=RAFCfcHi0N8I need this, right? thecrochetcrowd.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/04/Caron-Cakes-Blueberry-Muffin.pngI found a good photo of it. Went to Michaels tonight and found my colour. You have to look very hard for it. There are many new colours and I wished I could have fucussed on something other than just one colour scheme. Oh wel.. I mean I can always go back right. I found an easy crocheter on youtube to tube to follow and will make that afghan. It looked pretty easy I think? I was too nervous to start tonight so maybe tomorrow. We'll see. The cake I bought was much thicker wool than I had expected. It is very pretty blue in colour and I love it! Update: I have cast on a zillion stitches and then added 2. I have done a full row. There were some mistakes I am sure but I think we will be ok. I am crocheting in grey right now. I am ready for a change soon. I want the blue to start. It's a very slow process! I haven't crocheted since about 1980 so I am l am really just learning. I will post when I have a few rows done. This has to look better than a sticker sneeze, right? (Comparing to m y first scrapbook page...)

I love how easy it is to work with. Great stuff for beginners.
I would buy that combo.

It matches my bedroom so I might make an afghan out of it instead. I need to find out when they will be released. Hopefully soon.

While I'm no expert on these matters, of course you do! I have one cake in Faerie cake and the colours are lovely, just not sure what I'm going to do with it yet. I also bought some Stylecraft Candy Swirl and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone, yes it looks gorgeous but it feels like the cheapest, nastiest acrylic to use. Really disappointed with it.

I love Caron Cakes and love many of the new colours - also love that they have some bigger cakes now (only need 3 to make an afghan) However, I am on a self-imposed yarn diet until I have completed my current projects

Is blueberry muffin a new one? I feel like I've used that one or maybe just really similar before.
My favorite still is the one that's all purples. I hope it's not discontinued.

I must resist the urge to buy more yarn..... but it's so pretty. Maybe a trip to Michaels just to look is in order.

Why not just buy solids where you can control the exact colors and design? I was wondering the same thing except I'm just imagining how projects would have sporadic color changes. I don't think I've actually seen any. I've never worked with yarn like that. I'm too chicken.

I absolutely LOVE the new colors! Keep in mind, that these types of cakes don't give you a perfect join. Most of the time, the color changes mid-line. And that can give some people "ticks" because it doesn't seem orderly. There are some patterns that work with it though. You could try the virus stitch, the 12 point star, or beautiful shells blanket patterns. Because they start from the middle and go in rounds, the changing of the color doesn't seem as obvious.
If you are really OCD about things like that, don't go for patterns that are straight lines across. Although some do seem nice, the abrupt color changes are more noticeable.
Can't wait to see what you do with it!

My DD and I went to Michael's the other day. She literally squealed when she saw the new Caron cake yarn display. It was so cute!! Another customer just looked at DD like she was nuts. The customer must not have been a yarn addict like DD. DD bought 2 of the cupcakes and is going to make toddler size hats for her little niece and sell one. I love yarn but can't crochet or knit to save my life. I just love being an enabler to DD. LOL!! I loved that the cupcake yarn came with a pom-pom on it.

I think I can handle it. It does look like fun! Yes you can handle it. Shell is forgiving as it's a cluster like granny squares or stripes and corner to corner. If you accidentally discover that you only had 4 stitches and not 5 (or whatever the pattern calls for) you can just fudge it and keep going. No need to unravel a row and a half of work just work 5 stitches into that 4 and keep going.

I am nervous because I am very inexperienced, but I will do the best I can. I want to make an afghan 54"x75". How many stitches will I need? She told me in the video I will need as many as I want as long as it is in 3s and add 2 extra. I really have no idea how many I need to make it which is kind of challenging me right now. Do I want 150 stitches?

i love their colors, but just about every project i see that's made with them looks like someone didn't know how to properly switch colors. just my little tick i guess I have a love/hate relationship with this yarn for that exactly reason. I really like how it feels for an acrylic blend and it works well for projects where I can't use natural fibers. I'm also drawn to several of the color ways. But I really hate the abrupt color change and it throws off the look of the finished piece and makes them look off like you said. One crocheter I follow on Instagram posted a project where she cut the yarn at the color changes and grouped them so that the transitions were not mid-row. Some of the commenters were so judgy with their comments (shocking for the internet, I know). Lots of "why bother with this yarn if you're going to cut it." Who cares how someone else uses their yarn--geez.

Do I want 150 stitches? Just keep on chaining until you get the width you would like. When I'm thinking I might get close, I lay my chain on the floor or table and pull out the yardstick. Then count your chains and add or subtract a stitch or two to have the right count for a shell.

Yes, this. Make sure you chain loosely, and lay it flat to measure. And NO anxiety! It's just yarn. Frogging is for everyone!

Delta Dawn just enjoy the process. When I think of my first afghan I laugh. It was a learning experience. The important part is you should be just chilling out and enjoying yourself. It's my favorite chill out activity.

I am pretty relaxed doing it. I am also concentrating on it so I like that part. I still have to count every stitch but I am enjoying it a lot. I am talking to BFF who is knitting at the same time. In a perfect world my Grandmother would be overseeing and giving me advice but seeing I don't have her this is still fun.
I am ready for a colour change, though. The grey is nice but I want some blue next.
