Also something like "the class who donates the most gets 10 minutes extra PE". We got the kids really involved to bug their parents This one is good!

We did class contests. If everyone donates at least $5 , you get free dress. Class that donates the most gets a popsicle party. We had bulletin boards showing the leaders and announced it at flag pole. Our schools have begun eliminating class competitions like this, even in food drives. We are an upscale community, but reality is not everyone has extra $$$. It's rude to add more insecurity to those feeling the difference... I'm not preaching here, I wouldn't have understood this so clearly prior to a friend breaking down and telling me what was happening with their business and what her kids were experiencing.

I think lunch with the principal would be good. Hahaha I think this says something about my school years but my thought was OMG they would think they're in trouble big time! It is really a big deal to have lunch with the principal. She gives a special pencil and gives them a cookie.

That's why we don't do it here either. Any giving is anonymous and not tied toward any prizes given to a specifiv class. For teacher gifts organized by room parents, the gift is from the entire class, regardless of who donates. We have some pretty big income disparities in our district. Honestly, in the future, I'd just switch it to a direct mailing/email to the parents and keep the kids out of it. Then no one knows who gives. Save

Thanks for the ideas. We do raffle off a Lunch with the Principal at our carnival in the Spring. I did ask about silly stringing the principal as a prize (which he said yes to) last Spring, so maybe I can do that for donating $75/$100. I need to ask if he's changed his mind over the summer If we change the donation drive, it's going to be changed to a fun run. I am not planning a fun run (over the summer, it would have to be a fall event) by myself, so for now, a donation drive it is. Thanks again for the ideas

Thanks for the updated. Sorry it wasn't as successful as you would have liked.
Our jog-a-thon is a month away and our kids just came home with the donation envelope. One thing that the parents say makes such a difference at our school is having "jog captains" for each class. These are parents who help motivate class. They make an achievable goal for each class and provide small incentives for students who meet mini goals (got 1 pledge, 3 pledges, got $20 in pledges, $50, $100...).
They go in the classroom once a week to update, pass out incentives and motivate students. They also help educate the student so that they can speak about why we are fundraising and for what the money will be used.
The class incentives are really small (eraser, pencil, reward from teacher, sticker, etc).
The big incentives come once all monies have been collected.

I'm glad that you were able to raise close to what you raised last year. I'm sorry the participation was so low. Good luck with the other fundraising goals!

Our school is doing a color run for our "walk a thon" type fall fundraiser. The flyer just came home today with the incentives for the kids. All of the kids get a sponsor provided white shirt to wear to get color splashed if they wish.
The top fundraiser kid per classroom gets their table spot decorated and a $15 gift certificate for the Scholastic Book Fair.
The top individual collector for grades K-2 gets their spot decorated, a $50 GC for the book fair and a $20 GC for a local mom and pop toy store.
The top individual collector for grades 3-5 gets their spot decorated, $50 GC for the book fair and four passes to a local gym place.
The top classroom overall gets a Silly String Party for the class, a traveling trophy for the year, a $100 GC for the book fair for the teacher/classroom and a $100 GC to a local restaurant for the teacher.
Other than the donated shirts, there are no mid level prizes for the kids other than what they have for the top collectors. Parents, grandparents and other family are encouraged to come to school and participate with their kid/s that day to generate enthusiasm for the event, and many do. All of the kids participate whether they collect any donations or not (they try to get each kid to generate $50 in donations), and the fall event routinely raises $10-15K.
Our school's PTA only does one other big fundraiser event in the spring. They raise a ton of money at that one and no one ever misses having to peddle gift wrap, cookie dough or butter braids.
