We had ham yesterday, so tonight it's mac & cheese with ham mixed in and corn on the cob. Two pressure cookers going right now.

I'm going to attempt frozen beef for the first time today. I have about 3lbs of beef chunks that I plan to make into Mississippi roast. Do you think 50 minutes then NPR is enough time?

Update to my post: I made Mississippi roast in the IP using frozen meat. Put it in for 70 minutes and it was perfect! I've never made that recipe before and I've never used frozen meat so it was a small victory for me 😊
Now I just have to figure out the pot-in-pot thing so I can make grits

Instantpot users: Do you make rice? Do you only use the little cup that the IP came with?
ETA: tagging elaine. So sorry to bug you but I'm planning on making regular rice tonight and I don't want to end up with two wasted batches (like I did with my basmati the other day, lol).

This is so basic, but I've been using IP to make cauliflower rice, the fresh precut kind from Costco. I don't know if it actually saves time but it's cooler than steaming with summer temps.
I've also been making dishes like garlic butter green beans or broccoli for the same way. It's odd setting the timer for 0, but the results are good.

naby64 I'd never made it before but I made ghee last week in the IP using this recipe - Easy Ghee - and I couldn't believe how fast and easy it was. We used some with tonight's dinner of IP steamed crablegs - delicious! Well, I haven't used any yet but this batch looks and smells like the store bought batch. For much less money. I am glad I only used a pound of butter as it was the perfect amount for my container. I am heading out of town this weekend so I won't be able to use it until next week. I will check your link to see if it was the same as what I followed. Thanks to you both. I mistakenly bought extra butter and am about to finish my store bought ghee. It never crossed my mind to make it in IP!

I'm glad to hear that your Mississippi roast was a success - I've never made that recipe one. I may have to give it a try!

ETA: tagging elaine . So sorry to bug you but I'm planning on making regular rice tonight and I don't want to end up with two wasted batches (like I did with my basmati the other day, lol). I sometimes use the little cup, I sometimes use regular measuring cups. With rice, the important thing is the ratio of water to rice (like 1.5:1) so, as long as you use 1.5 times as much water as rice (which you can do regardless of measuring cup), you are golden. The water ratio varies by rice type.

ham & beans in the IP, cornbread in the oven. Although I hate the colder weather, I'm looking forward to doing more regular baking.

Okay, Elaine is still here..good!
Question for anyone, has anyone used the IP as a slow cooker? I have a slow cooker soup recipe I want to try that calls for browning meat first, so the IP would be perfect.
It would have to simmer all day though, and I'm worried the IP would get too hot. Anyone tried an all day slow cook in it?

What happened? Instant Pot update - so far I've made rice and tried to make refried beans (<----total failure). Today, I'm going to get ambitious and make this: Thai Green Curry with ChickenIt has a GREAT step by step for Instant Pot so hopefully even I can't mess it up.

So far, so good. I'm still here. We will see. I just wanted to hand the thread off if admin decided it was time for me to go.
I had my first yogurt fail yesterday, even after adding an additional 5 hours. So, I kept one quart to use as buttermilk in cooking and went to the store for more milk and a fresher container of yogurt for starter. I'm happy to say it turned out perfect!
I made teriyaki chicken thighs in the other IP for dinner - simple but good.

elaine or any other conversion gurus, I have a question. I have a wonderful chicken tortilla soup by Rachel Ray. You just use a rotisserie chicken and go to town with wonderful flavors. Cooks on the stove top and is supposed to be ready to eat in 30 minutes. I usually make this on a Friday when I am home by 12:30 or the weekends. I just like for the flavors to meld a bit more. Anyway, I picked up a rotisserie chicken while I was at Walmart during lunch. It is finally cool here today and I just wanted a yummy comfort food and decided on soup. If I saute the onions first and then add everything else, how long would I need to cook this? I want it to be able to get a good melding of flavors. This is the RR recipe that I have always used. This is the recipe I am using tonight since I am trying to adhere to a Paleo diet. Whole30 IP Chicken Tortilla soup

Do come back and update us. Is it spicy? I always think of Thai green chili as spicy, but maybe not....? Two of the three of us here at home don't care for things too spicy.

Oh, and did you guys get the latest Sur LeTable anniversary catalog? Looks like they got all the major vendors to give a discount on one particular well loved item. Like All Clad, Le Creuset etc. And they included the IP...but a ULTRA edition, lol. That totally cracked me up. It sure is spiffy looking!

Whole30 IP Chicken Tortilla soup I would toss everything in and cook for 8-10 minutes on high pressure, quick release.

AH, okay good to know, somewhere my brain there was that little nugget that it ran too hot as well! I think I'll try it on a day I'm home to slow cook for a shorter amount of time. Thank you!

Instant Pot update - so far I've made rice and tried to make refried beans (<----total failure). What happened? I made some that didn't call for soaked beans but I prefer to soak. They were way watery so I added another batch of just cooked beans (not soaked this time) and they were perfect. I want to make more but was looking for a recipe that starts with soaked beans.

Elaine, can I throw frozen stew meat into the instant pot along with the vegetables to make a beef or pork stew?
