Are we really discussing whether Boden is trendy now? Come on. Don't get lulled by their "We're British, we're classic but a little cooky, tee hee" message. It's like Marks & Spencer's clothing department on a very low dosage of cocaine, pretending to be Orla Kiely. (also, so many recycled patterns, over and over again) And yet, I'm still eyeing the Amelie dress in plain black. If they take 40% off during the summer sales, I'll add it to my wardrobe. But I'm not caving for the 30% off they have on the French website right now. Nuh-huh. Stubborn haggler mode: activated. 75€ for a viscose and elastane jersey dress? Nope. That type of fabric is not worth the price tag.

I like Boden and have purchased a few things over the years, but I am not a fan of the orange dress + yellow sunglasses. Hello 70’s. Im wondering how much this color scheme is going to influence the December Daily color palette this year. Ugh I hope it isn't 70's puke colors. Nobody tell Kelly Purkey! Please, Flying Spaghetti Monster, no!

Today she has a sponsored post for a dress I sure hope she isn't going to be the next Amy Tan. So does this mean Boden is paying her to post this on IG? I wonder how this works? Is that something she seeks out or did Boden reach out to her since she has posted about how she likes to shop there. I mean so many people do ask about where she purchased what she's wearing, so I can't fault her for taking advantage of a sponsorship if it makes sense. She actually wears the brand. But I hope she doesn't go overboard with it.

I would guess that since she's tagged them in past posts about what she was wearing and has a good sized following they probably contacted her and offered her some product in return for a certain number of ad posts. I doubt that she approached them. I agree that if you genuinely like something and would buy it with your own money it makes sense to accept free product to promote. I mean, who among us would say no thanks if their fav brand reached out and said, "here have some free stuff! Just keep mentioning us, but btw now you're going to have to tag it as sponsored content and we have some requirements..." Unfortunately there's a point where your brand suffers if you promote too many random things you "love." Especially things that have nothing to do with your brand. I think Amy Tan reached it sometime before the popsicle photoshoot. That was when I switched her off entirely.

I actually loved Ali's dress and sunglasses! I have never heard of Boden and I went to look at the site and I really loved many items especially the coats and jackets. For those that have shopped with them how do you find the sizing? Their sizing is about one size larger than standard US sizing. I have a few items that I’ve worn several years in a row and they’ve held up well. I picked up a gorgeous velvet coat a couple of years ago for under $100, it’s one of my favorite things in my closet!

The HSN lady did call the album exclusive. But Ali has said in future items will be "exclusive" as they'll have different colors that have previously been released. The HSN hosts are forever misguided on the minutiae.

I doubt that she approached them. That's cute but alas, here I am, Reality Check Girl. No cape, no bullsh*t. Considering the influencer market today as well as Ali's past partnerships (though few), I think it's safe to say that tagging Boden previously was merely a plus on her candidacy through one of influencer marketing platforms. The timing as well is too perfect, coinciding with her national appearance on HSN and the brand she promoted being literally her name, redirecting all the new curious folks straight to her IG account before the @aliedwardsdesigninc one. Also, she got paid for this ad. For sure. The days of solid micro-influencers accepting some goodies for promotion are over. Nano-influencers, sure (though they have the strongest conversion rates), micro, nope. I'd guess her engagement and conversion rates are pretty solid so she'll have made more than the basic going rate ($600 for 60k followers), probably in the 750-1000 range.

As a UK pea, I will confess to having quite a few Boden things in my wardrobe and continue to make fairly regular purchases - when they are discounting (which they do regularly on this side of the ocean, at least). I find their clothes to be generally well made (better than M&S, sleepingbooty) and of decent quality. There's often a little design quirk - an interesting lining or contrast trim on a bit of knitwear, say - that elevates their offerings to be a bit out of the ordinary. Of all places to come across an ad for their stuff though - never seen one on a blog or IG account before, but then maybe there's a different approach in a different market?

Hey, sleepingbooty, my guess is that ali (or Katie, or even her brand manager at Inked) would have pitched it to Boden? What's your professional opinion?

She said in her IG story yesterday: Huge thank you to Boden for inviting me to participate in this campaign. Sounds like they reached out to her 🤷🏼♀️

Hey, sleepingbooty, my guess is that ali (or Katie, or even her brand manager at Inked) would have pitched it to Boden? What's your professional opinion? You can manifest your interest in a partnership either directly (especially for bigger companies with actual employees dedicated to influencer marketing) or be sollicited. The many influencer marketing platforms play a big role in this industry. Influencers sign up and have to put in details about their social media as well as define their online brand, their audience, etc. On some of these platforms, you can be more selective and request to be considered for particular brands and/or products/types of products. On others, it's a very selective process of the curative kind (the platform actively seeks out particular profiles that fit what the companies are looking for AKA influencer search + discovery). The #Bodenbyme campaign is both purely user-generated content and actual ads through influencer content. You can search the hasthag on IG and see Boden customers posting photos of themselves wearing their purchases and influencers either getting free product or likely getting paid + free product (they have the longer ad blurbs + personalised codes). Whether Ali or Katie (Inked's got nothing to gain in this so I'm ruling them out de facto) reached out to Boden to be considered for their influencer marketing list, or Boden ended up picking up the signals from being hashtagged frequently by AE on social media matters little in the end: it's up to Boden to then "properly" reach out to the influencer and invite them. Influencers (even the mega and macro) often thank the companies for inviting them. That's a formality in the marketing game, be it H&M or Dior.

I still get influencer emails from when I was more actively blogging. A very similar company to Boden was on the list looking to partner with people with 50K+ followers, in exchange for a $500 credit to the store, plus a cash payment of $850. Im guessing she gets similar emails. They required the influencer to post o Instagram 3x, and cross promote on FB.

I have also been buying from the UK site for several years and find that although the clothes are a little pricey, they're definitely worth the money. Especially dresses, they last years and are so comfortable and well-made. I've just ordered an Amelie dress in light blue and can't wait to wear it!

I'm also a professional "writer" although persuasive, not creative, writing is my educational/professional focus (I'm a lawyer) and the skills translate pretty well. I've always enjoyed writing and have been told I am good at it, I could definitely help with some tips and prompts. I would also enjoy participating in a year long thread on writing prompts--we can all learn from each other. I am an attorney also. I would love to follow along with writing prompts.

An Ali Edwards video just showed up in my YouTube recommendations! That's never happened before. It was her May PL spread video.
I wonder if it's linked to her campaign to reach a wider audience. I haven't watched a PL type video in at least a few of years (since Kelly Purkey last worked on her album?? lol OK, maybe not quite that long ago) so I don't think they have me pegged as being specifically interested in PL. I don't often see any PL videos recommended to me, except maybe Inkie Quill's pocket pages, which I always ignore.
Lately I mostly watch Colbert, cardmaking, occasionally other crafts and 12x12 scrapping, people living in vans and RVs by choice, and tiny house videos, so maybe I'm being seen as a potential new customer. (They wrong. I'm not).

Its cheap at $5, and you only need a pen + paper. It's easy. Bring in new customers with this and then suck them into other buying/projects.

I quoted a speaker I heard recently in a different thread, but it appears Ali was listening to that speaker's advice too.....
"Now and then, go and fish in a different pond"
I got a link in one of my feeds (can't remember which one) but I don't think I've ever seen one before. Some new algorithm is kicking in somewhere.

Her current market is saturated with her products. She increased the numbers of her kits but they aren't selling out at this increased number. During her last Stories Revisited Sale very few of the story kits sold out. So everyone who is interested already subscribes or gets the digital versions. She is offering her STORYOLOGY Class FREE for all newsletter subscribers and maybe hoping for new customers this way too. And HSN is a new route for new customers. I think this will be favorable. The more she produces the less the cost to produce...

I sub to Ali's YouTube page, but rarely does YT suggest her videos for me. It did for the May PL. So I watched it. Is she also trying to get 1 year in 1 album? I feel like her May spread was a little bit like an ooh I need to do something quickly. Print all my Instas and stamp "This is May" on them.

I have years that are so intensely full of daily minutiae that I have started to scale back and take a breather. I use one album per year and 2018 is over full. This year I’m taking it easy and being less detailed.

She managed to use quite a lot of product from her shop and subs, with a minimum of effort. Not necessarily a terrible thing - I imagine some people want to see quick, easy spreads that can pack a lot of memories into a small space. I don't blame her for scaling her PL back after all these years of doing it. The stamping "this is May" definitely isn't my thing, but it sort of worked in the end.

Ugh. Got my Move kit and my canvas heart add-on wasn't included. Did I miss where these were shipping separately? Or did I just waste money on something that they didn't include?

My hearts were in my envelope (and it was taped shut this month!) so I'm guessing they missed yours. Also? Is the /boxes boxes everywhere' card supposed to look like it wasn't printed/cut straight? Mine looks like it was cut/printed wrong; looks tilted once you look really closely. Looks really bad now that I keep looking at it...I'll have to either reprint it myself or trim off some of the squares to even it out and make it usable.
