Thanks! It's one of those things that I kept thinking, maybe it isn't so bad. But I will definitely take care of it asap. For those that work in the ER and others, in your professional opinion is gall bladder attacks becoming more common? Seems like most everyone I talk to has either had theirs taken out or know someone who has. Pretty sure it is our number one scheduled surgery in our facility. Our trauma docs are also on general surgery call a few times per month and they say they can do them in their sleep.. Pretty straight forward procedure now that they are mostly done laparoscopically. Very little down time and very low infection rates. SaveSaveGallbladders are definitely the #1 urgent/emergency surgery at my current hospital, and probably every other hospital where I've worked (spines and total joint replacements are our #1 scheduled cases - take care of your bones folks!).

As long as your insurance gives you the go-ahead and your surgeon agrees, I say the sooner the better. Don't wait.

Because of my surgeon's schedule, I had to wait a month for surgery. I had had several minor attacks (mostly acid reflux, one vomiting) before diagnosis.
I ate a no fat (or as close as I could get) diet for that month of waiting and had no flare ups. I was nervous the whole time because I didn't want an emergency procedure.
On the plus side, recovery was easy, but please follow the post surgery suggestions about being careful with lifting. 3 months after my surgery, I ended up having to lift my 110 lb daughter after her surgery (not planned that I would need to do that, but turned out I did)for 2 days until she could walk. My case was extreme, but I ended up with an incisional hernia and surgery again 11 months later. Hernia surgery was not easy to recover from. Plus now I don't have a belly button!

As soon as you can before you have a big attack and require emergency surgery (speaking from experience!)

Saw the surgeon and though she said don't wait, I have an unrelated infection in my jaw, so that has to clear up. We've scheduled for November 15. Thank you all for the info!

I'm sorry to hear about the infection. If the attacks get worse do see your surgeon.

The sooner the better. I had a major attack on labour day Monday a few years ago. I didn't actually have the surgery until the Wednesday because of OR schedules, staffing, other more serious emergencies. I ended up in the hospital from Monday night until Thursday and missing my kids first day of school among other first week of school events. If you can plan when to get it taken care or I would in a heart beat. Also the pain from a full blown emergent attack is so much worse than a more minor attack

I agree with all the OP's! And I wanted to tell you that the pain from surgery is NOTHING compared to an attack. I remember feeling better as soon as I woke up from surgery! Wishing you a healthy and quick recovery from surgery.

I had two attacks two weekends in a row. Both times were so painful that I thought I was going to throw up -- the nausea was incredible. After the second Saturday attack, I saw my doctor that next Monday morning, had an ultrasound that afternoon and had surgery scheduled for the next week. The surgeon asked if I wanted the procedure done by a surgical robot or by him -- I wanted an actual person, thank you very much! Friday and Saturdays were my normal days off, so my surgery was on a Friday. I took a vacation day on Sunday and was back to work Monday. Felt so much better!
