I have voicemail. I hate getting voicemail... my voicemail message is "don't leave me a voicemail"... but this is not a business phone - just my personal phone. Text me. Email me. But dear god, don't leave me a voice mail. LOL We have a few parents in our school who also have this as their voicemail greeting. Very few things are as irritating to a school as calling it a parents to let them know that their darling child has just vomited all over the cafeteria and being greeted with a voicemail that says don't leave me a message. We can't text you from the desk phone and we won't text you from our personal phone.

People don't want to listen to a 5 minute message. OK I'm exaggerating, but honestly, even a 20 second message is too damn long. I often leave a message saying "Hi Jane, it's Megan. I'm calling about xyz, I'll send you an email."
And to be honest, in my experience the vast majority of people at work don't even listen to their messages. They just see the missed call and ring back. The number of times I've left messages such as "Hi Paul, can you please let me know how many xyz you need and by what date." Then Paul rings me back and says "Hi, I had a missed call from you." Yeah, did you listen to my message? Nope!

My children broke me of the voicemail habit several years ago. They never listen to them and said no one does. They see my number when I call and then call me back. Makes sense.
