We just completed a complete remodel of our master bath in June (you can see my post from a couple of weeks ago). When working on the new design, we researched what was selling in our neighborhood and general area. For where we are, a big, spacious shower and separate vanities with high end finishes was most important for resale, with the caveat that there is another nice tub in another bathroom. Since we had remodeled the hall bath in 2013 and put in a deep soaker air tub (much easier to deal with than a jetted tub), we opted not to include a tub in the master bathroom.
Since you are looking at a definite resale in the next few years I would give more weight to what buyers are looking for where you live. We can tell you all day what we would do and what we prefer in a master bath, but in the end what matters most is what the buyers in your area want. Good luck with your bathroom remodel. It’s a long, painful process but so worth it in the end!

I would talk to a realtor or two about what is the norm for your area. Personally, I'd rather have a large shower and no tub. Double sinks in the vanity are a must have. We recently re-did our bathroom, including an all new shower. Here is a cool find- a fold up seat. I didn't know they existed! DH is handicapped and needs to sit while he showers. This seat is awesome! linkOoh I like that! TFS!
