She’s American! I can hardly believe that someone so high up would be allowed to date a divorced, American! Remember how much trouble Wallis Simpson caused just a few decades ago? The times they are a’changin. Quite a few decades ago....... 81 years to be precise. Believe it or not things around the world have changed since then! There was also far more to the Wallis Simpson saga than the fact that she was American and twice divorced who started her relationship with Edward V111 before she divorced her second husband. Her past was far more " colourful" than the two divorces she went through.

I heard tonight that they broke the monarchy protocol by sitting together today at an event. I wonder what grandma thinks! It wasn't because of protocol that they didn't sit together at the opening ceremony it was because, on this occasion, Prince Harry sat in the VIP seats that were reserved for dignitaries and government officials and their spouses only. As his girlfriend, Meghan Markle doesn't fit into any of those categories. They did sit together at the tennis game later and walked out hand in hand and as such he wasn't there as a representative of the Royals but in a private capacity as the founder of the Games and a supporter in the same way as everyone else that was at that game.

They are cute together. I hope they are happy.

I'm curious, in all the history of the royals has there ever been a marriage with a biracial man or woman? That's probably another first!

I'm not familiar with her as an actress, but she is gorgeous, and they make an adorable couple.

The times they are a’changin. Harry is so far down the pecking order that it won't matter. And, as you rightly observe, times have changed. She is gorgeous. So is he. If they are meant to be together, they will be.

You do realize that England has been a kingdom since the 9th century don't you ? and the United Kingdom has had monarchs since the union with Scotland in 1707 previous to that they each had their own monarch. I think it's irrelevant that she's biracial. Prince Harry has obviously fallen in love with the person she is, whatever the colour of her skin and I'm sure he didn't do so to tick any possible boxes.

It is true that the current queen's father became king because of the abdication of his brother. But - the Duke of Windsor and Wallis had no children, so the line of succession would have reverted to his brother, and through him his children - including the current queen - anyway.

As you pointed out she would have been Queen eventually anyhow if he hadn't abdicated as her father died 20 years before the Duke of Windsor.

You do realize it wasn't until 2011 that a first-born female can succeed the throne. You do realize that England has been a kingdom since the 9th century, so Wallis Simpson's marriage 81 years ago and her husband abdicating the throne is really not that long ago. Especially considering it was in the 1500's The Church of England separated from Rome because the King wanted an annulment. You do realize it is the year 2017 and a grown couple in their 30's are not allowed to sit together according to royal protocol because they are not married or engaged. Of course it doesn't matter the color of her skin, I was just curious about the history of the royals. Was there some obscure rule about marrying people of another race or was it implied it was not allowed? Some protocol at one point? When did it change? That is all. No shit, it doesn't matter now. I didn't think sitting together was a big deal, but....

I didn't think sitting together was a big deal, but.... What is the bolded part about? You asked if there was a history of biracial marriage in the Royal family........I asked how far back did you want to check. As far as I know there has never been any " obscure" rule regarding race but without going back to the 9th century to check I wouldn't know. The only " rule" is that a Catholic can't succeed to the throne, purely because the monarch is also the head of the Church of England and the defender of that faith. Therefore they can't be catholic and defend the be head of a protestant church. No different that expecting the pope to be a protestant. You're slightly wrong about the first born female. The first born female has always had the right to succession provided there was no subsequent males born after her. What was changed in 2011 was that a female still held her place in the line of succession even if there were males born after her. Those male births did not supersede her. If you're going to attempt to correct me on my own country's historical facts, make sure you've got them right including what is and what isn't protocol as far as the Royal family is concerned. It isn't about whether they are allowed to sit with each other until they're married it's about whether they are there in the official capacity as a member of the Royal family or there as a private individual. Which if you took the time to read back in the thread you will find an explanation I gave another poster.

All his previous girlfriends were blonde. If I'd know he was interested in brunettes I would have made more of an effort

I like them. I particularly like Harry. I find William to be very prickly; but Harry's just a sweetheart. You can't help but like him.
