It's October 1st and for many that means its time to get serious about (cough, cough) finishing up last years album and prepping for this coming years album. This thread is for sharing your prep progress, showing off your completed albums, and just general inspiration for December Daily. Feel free to share your DD Pinterest Boards, your blog and instagram profiles if you are going to be posting there. Do you have a great tip about how to get through DD without going crazy? Share that! Find a great service to get your photos printed? Share that as well! THIS IS NOT A THREAD TO DISCUSS WHAT COMPANYS ARE DOING (or NOT DOING) FOR THEIR DD KITS. That thread can be found: HERE. Please keep all scrapbook company chatter to that thread! So lets get started! Show me what you are working on!

So I will go first....
I thought my 2016 DD album was complete. Its sat on the shelf for almost a year and today I flip it open and notice I am completely missing one day of the month. Its like Dec 8 never happened! How does that even happen? So this week I am challenging myself to get that page done and photograph my album for my blog. Seems doable.
I am also missing journaling from my son about a ski trip he went on over Christmas so I am going to bribe him to sit and journal that for me. Then I will be completely done.

not doing a DD but I need to finish up Dec 2012 AND Dec 2013 in my family albums so if you don't mind...I'll join in here and hopefully get that accomplished before this Decemeber comes along. I don't especially enjoy Christmas scrapbooking (I know - the horror) - probably because it gets overwhelming with all the photos and events.

I don't think I'm going to prepare pages, per se, beforehand, as I like to have the activity and photos for inspiration when I'm putting the page together. There are some instances, however, where I know I'll be using "supplemental materials," and I've started collecting them in one place. For instance, I know I'm doing pages on movies and music, so I'm searching the interweb and saving photos of DVD covers and album covers to help illustrate those. I've also got a cute photo of a door mat that says "Hide packages from husband" that I'll use on a page about online shopping. I haven't printed them yet, as I don't have the pages planned, but I'll have them ready to go when the time comes.

Yay, mom! I'm going to bring over a cozy blanket and some cushions to make myself at home in this thread. I'm doing a 5x7 album for DD this year. I love the idea of there being a thread to come share my joys and pains in trying to set it up a little bit beforehand. Since I'm going to be working with a lot of 4x6 photos without page protectors, I can't really go all out with the prep but I do want to get some done. I just hope I'll break the DD failure curse this year.

So I dug out my December daily box from last year. Last year I had started putting an album together with Felicity Janes kit. I cut up a bunch of papers and put them in some of the page protectors and then I never did anything more. So I talked it out, added a whole bunch more new product to my box and started in. I have page one finished and I'm working on page two.
But you guys! I just fused a Vellum bag to a page protector with my fuse! I'm so excited! I didn't know if it would work or not but I figured it was worth a try. It totally worked! Yay!

I have a few pages from DD 2016 that I must finish before prepping this year's album. Then I'm going to start working on my new foundation pages.
I have a couple of days off work as I've been working crazy hours for about 2 months so that's going to be my focus for tomorrow!

I am feeling underwhelmed by most of the Christmas offerings this year and all I've chosen is my album. I usually put my kit together in the last few days of Nov so I'll be following along for inspiration.

I have every DD album to finish - the journaling is done but not the pages, but with the journaling all done, the pages are easy . I am doing an October daily journal this year and stumbled across something to use as a filler or if you need an idea. Bizarre holidays and each month has a national theme for the month. December is national fruitcake month and has some bizarre holidays like make a paper snowflake day . So if you are ever stuck on a day.... www.holidayinsights.com/moreholidays/december.htm

Ok, so I have never done DD. Never. I am desperately hoping to this year and am trying to plan it all out the best I can.
I was reading on someone's blog about a 'design plan' that Ali Edwards had in PDF form back in 2015. Can any of you experienced DD peas give me some insight on that? I would love to have my album completely prepped by December and this sounds like a road map that may be helpful?

Ok, so I have never done DD. Never. I am desperately hoping to this year and am trying to plan it all out the best I can. I was reading on someone's blog about a 'design plan' that Ali Edwards had in PDF form back in 2015. Can any of you experienced DD peas give me some insight on that? I would love to have my album completely prepped by December and this sounds like a road map that may be helpful? What you are referring to (I think!) is her Design Map found here as a free download. Basically she puts her page protectors in the order she plans on using them. Here is what I do ahead of time: late Sept/ early Oct - gather my supplies. I don't pull out everything I own, either. Everything I use will fit in one basket. This year, I found a black and white polka dot basket from Target (the pattern isn't available online, but its just like this one). Too many choices = failure for me. Since I ended up ordering from Ali, hopefully I will have all my supplies by Oct 15. I print from home, so I stock up on ink and paper. I pick up a new pen or two, so I know they are ready. I stock up on glue. I am picking up these things this week. I organize my DD digital files. It never fails I will download a new file and stick them on my desktop instead of the correct folder. I get them all wrangled up and make a list of what files I want to be sure to include. I also start a hidden Pinterest board of things I want to include this year. I consider it a 'sub board' of my regular December daily board - which has a million pins. There wont be a ton of pins on my sub board, but it makes it easier for me to find what I want to use without going down the rabbit hole of too many ideas to sort through. End of Oct/November - I put my page protectors in order of how I think I will use them. The order could change, but usually I stick fairly close to what I decided before hand. I also decide what numbers I will be using each day. I mix and match my numbers so sometimes it takes a bit of time to work out which numbers from the different styles I am using. I print out any digital cards I know I want to include. I send these to Office Max and they print them. Once I get them back, I cut them out. I also make my title page and if I am including an intention page, I make it. This sets the tone of my book. November - I start filling my pockets with cards I know I want to use. I can always move them later if they don't fit the story I want to tell. I find if I just leave them in my supply basket I forget about them during the busyness of December. I also make a few premade sequin pockets using acetate. I will pre-make my page protector that has 2x2 squares and get it filled. I struggle deciding what to stick in the 2x2 pockets so getting this done ahead of time saves me lots of time come December). This timeline helps me stay on task. I get overwhelmed if I wait to do everything all at one, so I just do it bit by bit. My goal is to have my foundation done before Thanksgiving. SaveSaveSaveSaveSaveSaveSaveSaveSaveSaveSaveSave

I'm editing and printing photos for my DD 2016!!! That's always the biggest road block for me. But the Picturemate is really making a difference in my process. I have about 10 spreads with photos in pockets. My plan is to get it all done this week. Then I can just go back and add cards, journaling, memorabilia, and embellishments. nicolep I print out Ali's design plan every year. I draw lines over the existing blocks so it matches with the way my page protectors end up being in the album. It's a good resource. I don't do foundation pages or anything in advance. It just helps me see what sizes I need to work with as I print photos.

I will no doubt read it many more times and apply lots of your pointers to my own process. Btw...when you send your cards to Office Max do you set them up on standard 8.5 x 11 size paper?

I finally finished my incomplete DD albums last year (I have been doing DD since 2012), so this year I am actually all caught up. Here are just my tips: 1) Don't sweat it if you have a day(s) missing and can't remember what happened on that particular day. Years from now, it won't matter if things are not in chronological order, only the fact that certain memories happened are important, rather than when they exactly happened. I have had this issue myself, and just simply put some filler cards on that day and put a special Christmas card that we received during that Christmas season in my 6x8 page. 2) It doesn't have to be 100% perfect, I have often felt that my pages were not perfect, but I don't know how to make them perfect- I go with "good enough" and call it a day. 3) This year, no kit spoke to me, so I just made my own album: I picked a beloved 12x12 collection, cut it down to size and have embellishments that go with it. Done. 4) Print out digital Christmas PL cards. I have some from Geralyn Sy, so I printed a bunch out 5) Planning doesn't really work for me, I just try to document at the end of each day or do a couple days worth at a time. So, if planning is not your thing, just wing it. (I only have a few days in December where I actually know what I will be journaling about or doing- We always celebrate Nikolaus Tag on Dec 5/6, etc) If I think of anything else, nothing is coming to mind right now, I'll edit Hope this helps!

Yes, I set them up on regular size. Truth be told, I usually am too lazy to only print the cards I want so I send the whole PDF over to Office Max. Its just easier to send the whole file than taking the time to single out the cards I actually want. They aren't expensive to print so I just send them all over. SaveSave

mom i am loving this thread. Thank you for starting it. I have a question for you and everyone else on this thread. Can you explain this preperation step? "I start filling my pockets with cards I know I want to use. I can always move them later if they don't fit the story I want to tell." (Quote is from a post of mom in this thread) I know this is a common step for most people but I end up moving so many cards, it just adds work for me. I keep thinking I am missing something obvious. I pick the cards to match the feeling or theme of the day.

(Quote is from a post of mom in this thread) I know this is a common step for most people but I end up moving so many cards, it just adds work for me. I keep thinking I am missing something obvious. I pick the cards to match the feeling or theme of the day. Well, I usually have certain cards that I know will fit certain days. For instance, I know we put our tree up the first weekend of Dec. so I if I already have a card that will coordinate with my tree decor, I stick it in. My birthday is the 12th and if I have a card about 'celebrating/drinks/etc' I stick it in. I know we will be delivering presents for a non-profit I volunteer for on the 9th, so I if I have a Santa card, I stick in it because I know Santa will be there taking photos. And sometimes I just have a cute card that I know I want to use, like a back and white buffalo check card, and I will stick it in on a random day. When they day comes I can either make it work with the photos/story I want to tell or I can move it to another day. I also keep in mind that nothing is stuck in stone. I can move things around come December, the goal for me is start picking the cards I know I want to use somewhere in the album and having them there - even if they are just a placeholder - will remind me about the card for later. I don't want to hijack any threads but I also don't feel there is much interest for October Daily on this board... I'm tempted to do an October Daily just to get a taste of what is right and what is wrong when working on a monthly project. Would this be an ok place to post updates on how my test-before-DD October Daily is going? ETA: The wood veneer I ordered for my DD album has arrived! Attachments:

and I just discovered that I never scrapped December 2014 either...I wonder how many other Decembers are hiding unscrapped in my albums? Too many to mention. Hanging my head in shame... I love the two DD albums that I (almost) finished for 2010 and 2011. I've come to the conclusion that December is just too busy for me to keep up with doing it the way I want to and then I get overwhelmed afterward so I end up doing nothing. I have journaling written (not for every day) and many photos taken for each of the missing years but at this point it would take way more time than I have to catch up with even a weekly format. In the past I would write my journaling on dated index cards and throw them in with my Christmas scrapping stuff to do later, but then it's hard to keep track of them. SO, what I think I'm going to try to do this year is to just write down any interesting things that happen during the month in my (mostly unused) planner, and add notes when I've taken pics of any particular thing to cross reference. It has daily pages that I never use, so this would be a good place to write stuff down. Then when I want to go back later and work on the photos from the holidays in whatever form that takes (probably regular scrapbook layouts), all of the notes for the photos and events will be right on the planner pages that correspond to those dates and events.

Thanks mom for officially including sleepingbooty. mom 's cool, yo. I want to approach this JYC/DD as a book of small chapters. Each double 5x7 spread will represent the book pages (where the titling, possible subtitling and journaling happen) and physically form the two shutters you open to enter/discover the chapter. Between those two slightly larger pages, I want to sandwich layers of illustrations to the "book pages" such as 4x6 photos (largest size my Selphy will print), 4x6 cards or cut-down pattern paper, memorabilia, larger die-cuts, 3x4 cards and photos as well as home-fused 3x6 page protectors to use up some of my Messy Box 3x3 cards and add in smaller photos as well. The idea is to have a tactile, interactive and layered approach to my December documenting without losing my space for proper journaling (which I love to do) or sense of overall structure. Not sure if I managed to explain it clearly though. The idea looks great in my head, I promise! The October Daily initiative (and my bronchitis finally getting a bit better) means I've done some scrappy play for the first time in over a week! It. Feels. Good.

This will be my 8th DD album and still my favorite project of the year. I posted a photo of my albums on my IG and it makes me so happy. I started out doing 8.5x11 albums and then went down to 6x8 when those came out. It helps that I do PL so I normally think of my photos as 3x4 or 4x6, with the occasional 6x8. Sometimes I'll feel spunky and do the 2x2s. I'm a creature of habit though and it I have to really think about it and plan for those though. We'll see if having my girls do 4x4 albums will help my mindset or not... I prefer to keep up with my DD on a weekly basis, although daily would be preferable, I just hate printing at home. My PL takes a hit during December, but I don't mind. Thanks for posting this mom .

Mom, your process for preparing for DD is bloody great! The use of a secret Pintrest board with only a few pins is a real "well duh" moment for me - deffo going to be doing that this year!
I have two days left of my 2016 DD to complete and then I'm ready for this year. I've just bought some white Stazon, which is new to me and I need to buy photo paper (if I don't print at home the project doesn't get done) and glue too. UK Peas, what do you use glue wise? I get by on Pritt Stick, but I'd like something better.
