I didn't realise people celebrate Saint Nicolas outside of certain (small) bits of Europe! Ha. Not many. I lived in Russia and learned of Saint Nicolas there, and then as a grown up I liked doing it with my kids.

ok, I am bringing forward my 'to do' list so I can keep track: late Sept/ early Oct - gather my supplies. I don't pull out everything I own, either. Everything I use will fit in one basket. This year, I found a black and white polka dot basket from Target (the pattern isn't available online, but its just like this one). Too many choices = failure for me. Since I ended up ordering from Ali, hopefully I will have all my supplies by Oct 15. everything is together but my Ali goodies.
I print from home, so I stock up on ink and paper. I pick up a new pen or two, so I know they are ready. I stock up on glue. I am picking up these things this week. doneI organize my DD digital files. It never fails I will download a new file and stick them on my desktop instead of the correct folder. I get them all wrangled up and make a list of what files I want to be sure to include. I also start a hidden Pinterest board of things I want to include this year. I consider it a 'sub board' of my regular December daily board - which has a million pins. There wont be a ton of pins on my sub board, but it makes it easier for me to find what I want to use without going down the rabbit hole of too many ideas to sort through. done
Finish my 2016 album and post to blog. doneEnd of Oct/November - I put my page protectors in order of how I think I will use them. The order could change, but usually I stick fairly close to what I decided before hand. I also decide what numbers I will be using each day. I mix and match my numbers so sometimes it takes a bit of time to work out which numbers from the different styles I am using. I print out any digital cards I know I want to include. I send these to Office Max and they print them. Once I get them back, I cut them out. I also make my title page and if I am including an intention page, I make it. This sets the tone of my book. November - I start filling my pockets with cards I know I want to use. I can always move them later if they don't fit the story I want to tell. I find if I just leave them in my supply basket I forget about them during the busyness of December. I also make a few premade sequin pockets using acetate. I will pre-make my page protector that has 2x2 squares and get it filled. I struggle deciding what to stick in the 2x2 pockets so getting this done ahead of time saves me lots of time come December). -------------------------------------------------------------------------
I blogged my 2016 album in two parts. If you are interested, you can check it out here: POST #1 and POST #2

I didn't realise people celebrate Saint Nicolas outside of certain (small) bits of Europe! I do since my mom is from Belgium. I pull out my "sabots" (wooden shoes) to receive the gifts for the kids. I like to give any really Christmasy themed gift, like a coloring book, that day so they can enjoy it during the holiday season instead of after Christmas. So far I have only managed to document 4 days of a December Daily. I started a hybrid project last year and have 4 days printed out and waiting in an album for the rest and some added embellishments. I wonder if I should change my project to a Dec. 6th to Jan. 6th timeline so as to include St. Nicolas and Twelfth Night.

I didn't realise people celebrate Saint Nicolas outside of certain (small) bits of Europe! my family lived in Germany when I was small and picked up the tradition there and kept it - and I continued with my own children. It's fairly common among Catholic homeschool families in the States as well - and somewhat less common but not rare among non-homeschooling Catholic families (in the States) from what I've seen

I mean, he's on the calendar for December 6th but there is no celebration attached to it. Oh well, whatever gets the kids some extra chocolate and gifts, I say! Not to derail the original conversation but since we're talking DD prep here anyway, I saw the cutest little felt Saint Nicholas ornament and speculaas biscuit mould in a Dutch shop chain that's also present in France: nicolep I've recycled old book covers in the same way before! It's fun and different but also lignin heaven...

I have not heard of them, bit after a quick Google, I am rather in love.. gosh I hope they come over here at some point. Apparently my nearest store is in Bruges. Not helpful! I need to organise a weekend trip away...

Every year I say I'm going to do a DD album. I get out all of my Christmas supplies...buy new paper if there is something out I love...find some cute samples to give me ideas. And NOTHING. LOL So I'm going to try again this year because my husband got me a photo printer and I have no more excuses. I have all of my supplies out again (will add some new embellishments if I see anything I love) and need to buy an album. Any suggestions for albums? What do I get?

You can pretty much use any type of album you'd like but many prefer to use Ali Edwards 6x8 albums from her shop. Simple Stories has a 6x8 album that is popular as well. SaveSave

They are still in the same location (Simon Stevinplein). It's a long story... Gosh, all the memories. And yes, perfect excuse to go spend a weekend in beautiful autumny Bruges.

LOL It'd make a great DD picture op!

So, question for you all. If I make one, do you reinforce the papers around the hole punches like we used to do back in the day? If so, do you buy pre-made reinforcers or do you make them?

@zingermack nope. I did not use any reinforcements. I am too lazy for that.

@zingermack I don't reinforce either. I usually use sturdier paper and have two sheets back to back which seems to hold up well enough. I will say I generally use a standard hole punch to make the holes so they go easily over the rings.

What a cute idea to repurpose a book for an album cover. I might use this style album to tell some Christmas stories from my childhood.

LOL It'd make a great DD picture op! You should check with your Belgian family. Dille & Kamille have shops in Belgium. We only have the e-shop option in France. The beech mould makes a large Saint Nicholas speculaas biscuit (over 20cm high) and is only sold during autumn. I believe it's priced at 11,95€. They also have a Père Fouettard/Zwarte Piet mould (which is cheaper for some reason ).

I did it!!! I started prep'ing a JYC album today. I used the 6x8 WRMK red faux leather album that I had (w/the 2 horiz 4x6 pockets and 2 vertical 2x4 pockets). Then I added a bunch of the 3-hole punched acetates that I got from the FJ kit that I picked up earlier this year, thanks to nicolep. I made a start at 2 6x6 pages just from 2 pieces of cardstock from that kit glued together and hole-punched. I'm going to start making some cards from the FJ kit and also from a Shimelle Christmas 6x6 pad I have. I'm LOVING it. I really hated the page protectors, but now that there are the acetates and some non-page-protector papers in there I think it's going to be great! Thank you all so much for the kick in the pants about this. This is the red album and this was the kit

I got last years kit from FJ and started an album but never added pictures. I don't even know if I ever printed the pictures. I don't know if I should use it for this year or if I should go back and do last years. I probably should go back and do last years. I always get some mojo to do DD in November and could actually get it done.
I also still have my WITL album half done. I think I did until Wednesday and ran out of page protectors. Now I have the page protectors but haven't done anything. I need to find time to scrap.

Feeling good about my DD today! Love the idea of this thread mom. I had a huge to-do list this weekend but was able to knock it all out so I rewarded myself with some scrapping time. I gathered products for 2017, but haven't started anything yet. Then I pulled out 2016 and went to work filling in things I didn't finish. Unfortunately my printer crapped out but I've been intending to order a new one anyway so not the end of the world. I'm so excited to get this project started!
