ok, I am bringing forward my 'to do' list so I can keep track:
late Sept/ early Oct - gather my supplies. I don't pull out everything I own, either. Everything I use will fit in one basket. This year, I found a black and white polka dot basket from Target (the pattern isn't available online, but its just like this one). Too many choices = failure for me. Since I ended up ordering from Ali, hopefully I will have all my supplies by Oct 15. everything is together but my Ali goodies. done
I print from home, so I stock up on ink and paper. I pick up a new pen or two, so I know they are ready. I stock up on glue. I am picking up these things this week. done
I organize my DD digital files. It never fails I will download a new file and stick them on my desktop instead of the correct folder. I get them all wrangled up and make a list of what files I want to be sure to include. I also start a hidden Pinterest board of things I want to include this year. I consider it a 'sub board' of my regular December daily board - which has a million pins. There wont be a ton of pins on my sub board, but it makes it easier for me to find what I want to use without going down the rabbit hole of too many ideas to sort through. done
Finish my 2016 album and post to blog. done
End of Oct/November - I put my page protectors in order of how I think I will use them. The order could change, but usually I stick fairly close to what I decided before hand. I also decide what numbers I will be using each day. I mix and match my numbers so sometimes it takes a bit of time to work out which numbers from the different styles I am using. done
I print out any digital cards I know I want to include. I send these to Office Max and they print them. Once I get them back, I cut them out. done but I will probably find more to use. I also printed out some of designs on transparency's to use.
I also make my title page and if I am including an intention page, I make it. This sets the tone of my book. title page done, need to do intention page
Cut out objects on my silhouette ahead of time. Some smaller objects that I can tuck into pockets, add to journal cards. Cut out an insert or two.I am thinking of making my own envelopes this year.
November - I start filling my pockets with cards I know I want to use. I can always move them later if they don't fit the story I want to tell. I find if I just leave them in my supply basket I forget about them during the busyness of December.
I also make a few premade sequin pockets using acetate. I will pre-make my page protector that has 2x2 squares and get it filled. I struggle deciding what to stick in the 2x2 pockets so getting this done ahead of time saves me lots of time come December).
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
I am working my way through my list of to-do's. I finished my cover sheet, and first 2x2 pocket page today. I forgot how much I hate 2x2 pockets. I have 4 pockets left open so I can snap a photo of each of us and slip in. Trying to decide if I want to use a plain white background for the photo or what. Decisions, decisions. My youngest is gone this week to a running meet so I can't get all the photos taken till Thursday. Other that the photos, its done though.
I decided on what numbers I am using. This time I am using black chipboard, smaller cork, and some white acetate numbers. I would like to find some red numbers but I am not sure I have any. I am going to look hard tomorrow and see what I find in my stash.
I am beginning to think about if I want to decorate the front of my album. I am leaning towards no.

I ordered some heavyweight white cardstock. There, that's something, isn't it? Looking forward to your pics, @zingermack . I need a bit of inspiration right now, I think. I'm dreading attempting another 6x8 but I can't find another size that would work anyway... OK. So here's one that I made so far. I used the FJ kit that had some papers I liked, embellished w/some Shimelle paper, stamped a little, and punched the holes. I used it to see how I would like it, so I documented a wish list from a prior Christmas. For reference, he's another one I tried. I did one on the food of Christmas eve. So, it was traditional page protectors w/the little side pockets (which I really don't like), but I think it will be fine, now that it's not just page protectors, but a combination of them w/other pages like the one above.

@zingermack, I have that same FJ paper. I may follow what you did and ask my daughter to write her wish list. She just started writing so I think it could be really cute to look back on. Thanks for the inspiration.

Love all the inspiration here!! So many ideas! I am hoping to actually finish my DD this year - at least by the first week of January. I do finish my DD's but it is always later in the next year before I do. Hoping to change that this year, but I do have my daughter's wedding on January 1, 2018 that is taking time planning. I am hoping to document from Thanksgiving maybe until January 1, 2018 this year. I don't really do daily, but I include a whole lot and I love doing 6x8 layouts too in it.

I would have bought one! I am debating on trying to recreate it in silhouette - it should work, right? If I used the sketch feature to draw the star? I never use that feature so I am going to give it a go. SaveSave

I'm going to take the time to go through her December Daily tag and look at her older albums again. I seem to remember more interactivity in her older DDs but you're right, I need to sit down and go through them. And decide on my themed pages. And pick paper + an album. Will it ever end? I already feel behind. you can't be behind sleepingbooty ! I'm still printing out photos for 2016 December. So no matter what work you do on your 2017 December, you'll always be ahead of me. I do mix 6x8 pages along with pockets and LOTS and lots of inserts. I don't have DD albums photographed specifically. But here's a front and back from a Disney album I made for dear friends:

Does anyone have a solution to holiday cards? My first DD I just stuck them in the back but it overflowed and they don't stay in. I should maybe just binder ring them. Not a solution for everyone/every card, but I cut them up. It was an idea Becky Higgins shared to deal with the photo cards that a lot of families send. Most of them can be cut down to a 3x4 or 4x6 size, preserving the best photo of the family. It's hard with some cards - the better the design the less I want to cut it up (tiny prints cards are so beautiful, but the Costco ones are easy to chop). I created pocket pages for lots of "people we love" who sent us photo cards and they went right into the back of my DD. Cards that are too cool to cut or have too many good photos, I punched holes in the side, or I attached them to something with holes (a strip of card with holes punched in it) and added them in. Non-photo cards get cut up if they're pretty to make filler cards. The ones with special messages (few and far between these days) go in the box where I keep all my special mail/cards. I think I have also added a few into my DD by punching the envelope and having the card half tucked into the envelope (does that make sense?). Or by adding elastic or string around the spine or the rings to hold folded cards in (like a travelers notebook elastic, if that makes sense). A binder ring would also work. It would be fun to hang on a hook and flip through. I have issues with storing stuff like that so I prefer something integrated into the album and flat, but this year I'm signed up for the big card exchange so I might use that solution to display all the Pea cards I get without papering the walls with them!

That's what I do, joblackford. I punch a hole, but them on a 3-ring binder and put them in baskets in the living room so we can look through them each year.

For cards, I use several of these ideas - trim photos to make a collage of all the happy faces that year, and trim non-photo cards to use as embellishments. If I have extra non-photo cards, I save them with the rest of my holiday scrapbooking supplies to have for creating foundation pages the following year or for creating gift tags. And for a few select family / close friends, I add the whole card to their scrapbook section in my "People I Love" album (Stacy Julian's Library of Memory Systems). I also make sure to save the card we send and a few of the bullet points I write.

Thanks for the ideas about cards. I like the idea of adding a few to my DD this year.

for my very favourite cards, I punch holes in them and add them into my dd on the very day we receive them or I create a section/page about Christmas mail and include photos or an example of the card I made for the year, along with the release day set for the special edition yearly Christmas stamps and include my favourite cards at that point. For all of the family photo cards I receive I cut them down and make a page or two in collage style. I love those pages.

Joining in! I’m a DD newbie, excited about the project itself but probably overthinking it already. HAH. I won’t be finishing the album until January as we will be away at the end of the month, so I am giving myself some grace regarding the timeline. This thread has been a wealth of information already, thank you all! I’m excited to get my kit and start prepping.

Well I had a pretty productive afternoon in my scrapbook room.
Got my 'reason why' typed out and printed. Then I did some sewing on it and got it put in my book.
I made my own person of Al's half circle with star note card. I think I will also try other designs besides with star - maybe a heart? Or a tree? Once I get it all complete I will share it with y'all if you'd like to cut your own.
Now I am back upstairs and am watching The Voice....trying to get the mess cleaned up from today. Apparently I need a huge pile of crap to be really productive!

I haven't done any sewing for scrapbooking but once I get my craft room all set up it's definitely going to be something I will experiment with. I love the idea of a little tree! I wonder if the Cameo 3 files are backwards compatible. I have the original Cameo.

What I've seen on clever someday is that the old machine can run the new studio software? But also, "A note about file types: This new version of SSDV3 lets you save as .studio3 (File>Save or File>Save As>Save As…) or .studio (File>Save As>Save as Legacy(V2)…)version. I plan to save everything as .studio (legacy) unless it specifically contains layers or some other feature of V3 that will not translate back to V2. I hope that most of you will use this strategy as well, to facilitate easier file sharing and to make it easier to go back to an earlier version if you need to. You will need to use Save As Legacy each time you save the file, as using Save alone will save a .studio3 version." cleversomeday.com/v3again/So, maybe mom can save the cut file in the legacy format for those w/older machines? I'm sure JaneB will know.

mom sorry not entirely sure but it sounds like a good idea to save as a legacy file. It would depend on what software was being run on an older machine so saving as v2 might be safer.
