I called my DR office this morning to get an appointment and they still won't take me for an appointment. Their answer was that I need to go to the ER where they will be able to diagnoses and treat it quicker. They said they called my provider and that is what they said. So, I am begrudgingly going to the ER now but looking forward to a resolution one way or another so I can "mentally" put this behind me. You'll feel better getting your answer. They have access to medicine and procedures right there if you need it. They can check your lungs if you do have a clot and make sure you don't have a PE. The only place that can do all that for you is the hospital, no doctors office has all those things right there. If it's not a clot then you just invested in your own peace of mind.

I had similar symptoms around March. Red, swollen, hot spots on my leg that hurt to touch them. My ankle was swollen. I went to an insta-care facility because my sister was sure I had a blood clot. Dr. didn't think, didn't do blood tests, nothing. Told me to use warm compresses and subscribed antibiotics thinking it was cellulitis. Had a couple of trips schedule, along with running a half-marathon. Felt fatigued, but, chopped it up to working long hours, training/running a half marathon and stress.
Fast forward to last of July. My leg hurt so bad from the inside. I could barely walk. I couldn't ice the cramp out, I couldn't roll it out, elevating it didn't help. My ankle was still really swollen. It felt like the insides of my leg was too short. Finally, it hurt so bad I could barely walk.
I went back to insta-care. They did a blood test and the d dimer level which indicates a blood clot at around 500 was over 4,000. They sent me up to the ER where they did an ultrasound. I had a blood clot from my ankle to mid-thigh. Diagnosed with DVT. Sent home on blood thinners.
I didn't feel right about my ER visit, so I called my regular physician who pulled up my test results, called me back and I had an appointment with a thrombosis specialist the next day. Went into see the specialist who changed the protocol. I was told I could go about my regular activities, so I went to the bank and the grocery store on the way home from my appointment. Ended up having severe lung pain and shortness of breath. I went to the ER again (different one but within the network). I had a PE and was admitted for 48 hours.
In between all of this, my older brother had to have his leg amputated (severe infection). He died while I was in the hospital with my DVT/PE. When we got the death certificate, the cause of death was pulmonary thrombosis.
Bottom line, this is not something to play around with. I wish I had gone into the doctor sooner. I can finally see my ankle bones after months. I am not so fatigued. My leg doesn't hurt anymore.

I wouldn't do this. It won't give you a definitive answer and it could possible dislodge the clot and cause a pulmonary embolism. If you think you have a clot you should just go to the ER. ahh...it won't dislodge the clot. We do this every day. I posted it like one of the 1st few posts.

I read your update and while I know you didn't want to go to the ER - I do think it is best. I have a blood condition that causes me to have blood clots and they are nothing to blow off. Let us know what you find out.

I had a blood test, ultrasound and xrays and they ruled out a clot and a Bakers Cyst and sent me on my way with a ridiculously high strength ibuprofen subscription (3 times a day for 7 days).
So, first I'm very relieved it isn't a blood clot because (1) a blood clot would be bad and (2) it would create havoc on my work life because I would most likely have to reschedule my surgery for next month that I had to plan 7 months in advance to coordinate with my work schedule.
I'm very disappointed that they were not able to give me an explanation for the pain, discomfort and sensations other than saying it could be a muscle or ligament injury and those take 5 to 6 weeks to heal. It was silly to give me that rx when I had explained that I've had the pain for 2 months now. When they were going over the discharged and discussed the rx, I even said, I've had pain for 2 months, how would taking this for one week make it any better? They didn't have a comeback for that.
So, now I don't have to lay awake at night wondering if I should have this investigated (I would have been mad at myself for not pursuing it if something bad happened as I couldn't handle putting my kids through that.
Finally, going to the hospital was totally the best way to do this as they just move you through the circuit of blood draw, x-ray, ultra sound, discharge so smoothly and it all only took a little over 2 hours!! My co-pay for ER is only $50 so it wasn't even that expensive (and to me the difference between a $15 doctor visit that would eventually take several lab procedures at a different location and take much more time was far worth the money!!).

I’m glad it wasn’t a blood clot but sorry you don’t have any definitive answers! Hope you can get to the bottom of it and get some relief soon.

Unless things have changed in 3 years since I left being a nurse taking care of post-op patients in the hospital, this was part of a normal shift assessment.

If the ER thinks it might my muscles/ligaments you might try getting a referral to a sports specialist or a physical therapist. They deal with those types of injuries all day long and can diagnosis those quite quickly. My husband (physical therapist assistant) can tell if I have an injury or a pinched nerve in three minutes.

I have had a sore calf for about 2 years now. It's intermittent, sometimes it goes away, sometimes it hurts like hell on fire!! I went to the ER once, thinking it was a blood clot and after testing they said it wasn't, but didn't know what it was. Said it was a muscle pull or something.
I followed up with my PCP. She ran a few tests and said it was probably a sore muscle, must have twisted it, yadda yadda. Ice and ibuprofen. She did mention it could possibly be a varicose vein, as I do have a couple of those, but on the "inside" that could be rubbing on a nerve or something. I just carried on and figured it was just something to live with. It was a pain, (no pun intended) but really didn't stop me from much activities to speak of.
About 3 weeks ago, I slept funny and woke up with my neck out of whack. I couldn't even close my jaw it was so jacked. I promptly marched myself to a chiropractor. He did a neck and jaw adjustment on me and asked when I had last had a full spine adjustment. It had been about 7-8 years since I had been to a chiro, so I said, go ahead and let 'er crack. He did a spine check and said my tailbone was out of whack and my hips weren't rotated correctly and he did an adjustment. Went back a few days later for a follow up on my jaw and he did another full spine adjustment. At that point my jaw/neck was 99% better, so I called it good. I just noticed the other day that since I had that adjustment my leg has not hurt one single solitary time.
I guess the point to my story is your body is weird. It's so interesting what connects to what and what affects what. Maybe it's worth a good back crack to see if that's what the dealio is.
