From PBS: Is 'American Pie' too moldy? Should 'Hotel California' be condemned? Does 'Macarena' make you muy furioso? Certain songs that get played so much that, while they’re classics for a reason, it would be understandable if you never wanted to hear them again. As a public service, All Songs Considered is trying to collect them all in one place (before presumably shooting that place into the sun). What beloved tunes would you load into a time capsule labeled “Open: Never”?

Wind beneath my wings should be on that list And amazing grace.
My husband would agree with that list.

I agree with about half that list. What I hate is terrible earworm songs. Like "Something tells me I'm into Something Good," or Sinead O'Connor's "Nothing Compares 2 U." Hate that one. HATE.

Totally disagree with several songs on that list....Imagine is my mantra, infact, my dh & I just had a conversation yesterday about how we feel that John Lennon is probably rolling over in his grave at the state of world these days.
There are plenty of terrible songs out there that should have never been produced to begin with but most of these are not those and of course, I cannot think of any at the moment.

Lynyrd Skynyrd Free Bird- OMG what blasphemy!!! Hallelujah can definitely go away though. And yeah just about anything Bette Midler sings...

I'm a big Harry Chapin fan, and it always annoys me that the only two songs of his ever played on the radio are Cats in the Cradle and W.O.L.D. He has a whole body of work, people!
I would agree with quite a lot of the songs on the list, but I am always happy to listen to American Pie. I would gladly add Livin' La Vida Loca and Don't Look Back In Anger. I hate them both!

When my son was born the hit song was "Fly Robin Fly" I hated it so much I was angry that I had to write it in his baby book. Most asinine lyrics of all time.

That song (currently playing on pop radio stations everywhere) where is sounds like they are trying to rhyme everything to burrito and dorito.
Feliz Navidad the song is just the same 9 words over and over and over.
I can't think of any others at the moment...

Isn't that sad when an artist gets sums up into one or two songs and often not even that good of one? Or someone new releases on old song and it's not done as well and everyone praises and plays that one. I think most of the ones listed here I could never hear again but then there are other old songs that never get old.

While I like some of Beyonce's music, the song about girls ruling the world is repetitive and ridiculous. Not to mention vulgar.

I'm afraid to read the replies to this thread because I KNOW it will give me some earworm that I can't get rid of! I could probably think of a lot, but the first one that comes to mind is a darn hymn. We sang it yesterday and it's one that I can't stand! lol The words are fine, it's the tune that makes me crazy. It's called "The Summons" and the tune is over and over and over and over and la-la-la-la...ugh. And it goes on FOREVER and organists will insist on playing it too slowly. Although, maybe I just want it to be played faster so we can get it over with sooner. "The Summons" sung by some random church I found on YouTube

Well, the first song that came to my mind was "I Just Died in Your Arms Tonite". Despite the fact that there are a million songs that make no sense, this one just really hocks me off. Obviously you did not just die. You are singing!! And while it wasn't that popular, I manage to hear it about once a week during the limited amount of time I spend in my car. It's like the freakin' song is stalking me.
As for the list, there are definitely a few they can take out of that vault: TiffanyTwisted definitely does not want "Hotel California" to go anywhere! And there is no song more fun to sing REALLY loud than "Bohemian Rhapsody".
But reading the list reminded me of another song they can get rid of - "Don't Worry, Be Happy". Ack.

None on that list. There are reasons they are classics. "Imagine" by John Lennon? How dare you even put that on your list!!!

Once Beaches hit its popularity and it was played repeatedly in the 80's, I would agree with you. Now it's so easy to download songs (make your own playlist), get satellite radio stations, or skip through recorded programs (with annoying commercials that can have ear worm songs), there are few songs that bother me because they are easy to ignore. Macarena is a silly song, but it made me smile thinking of some high school memories. I would have to say the most recent one I hate to hear on the radio is The Sound of Silence by Disturbed. BUT, easy enough to ignore.

Goodness. Most of the songs on that list are gorgeous classics I could never tire of.
I agree, you should have to apply for and receive a permit to cover Hallelujah. But I still love JBs version.
I hate meaningless, repetitive nonsense. The One by Cher Whose Name I Refuse To Utter comes to mind.
