Trump labels US justice system 'laughingstock'By Dan Merica, CNN Updated 6:24 PM ET, Wed November 1, 2017 Washington (CNN) President Donald Trump called for "quick" and "strong" justice for terror suspects in the wake of the deadly New York City attack, saying that it is not surprising terror attacks happen because the way the United States punishes terrorists is "a laughingstock."
"We also have to come up with punishment that's far quicker and far greater than the punishment these animals are getting right now," Trump told reporters. "They'll go through court for years. And at the end, they'll be -- who knows what happens."
He added: "We need quick justice and we need strong justice -- much quicker and much stronger than we have right now. Because what we have right now is a joke and it's a laughingstock. And no wonder so much of this stuff takes place."
White House press secretary Sarah Sanders, defending the President, claimed during her Wednesday briefing with reporters that Trump said "the process has people calling us a joke and calling us a laughingstock" -- which is not what Trump said. (My Comment! THIS WHAT HE SAID: "Because what we have right now is a joke and it's a laughingstock.")
Sanders also added that Trump was "voicing his frustration with the lengthy process that often comes with a case like this." "That was simply the point he was making," Sanders said.* (*my comment: another saying what he MEANT) ********************* Trump's comments, made during a White House Cabinet meeting Wednesday, malign the justice system for a lack of toughness. Attorney General Jeff Sessions, the head of the so-called 'laughing stock' justice system, was in the room for this comment -- sitting across from Trump.
The President also said he would consider sending the attacker to the controversial prison at Guantanamo Bay. ********************* More at link: www.cnn.com/2017/11/01/politics/trump-justice-laughing-stock/index.htmlThis truly make my angry! Our justice system has flaws and raises questions, but it is the BEST one of the better ones the world!

Grrrr...
I can think of one part of the just system that I would love to see move quicker.
But actually, they need to dot all the i's and cross all the t's. Methodical- get it done right. So if there is something there make it stick. No way out.
^^^^in reference to above, he's an asshat.

I think that his disgust with the judicial system is due to his own fear of it.

Too right it is, but it isn't the justice system. Does he not have any mirrors that he can look into?

Does he think that by putting down the country in this way (and he has done it about other topics as well) makes us look any better? Does he recognize that the reason we are a laughing stock is because of HIM? Do his followers recognize that? It makes me so angry.

His comments make us more unsafe as a nation, and the world unstable.

33% approval rating. Given the moronic defenses of his continued supporters, I don't think it will go much lower because those true believers agree with every horrid, ridiculous thing he says.
At any rate, I think Bob Mueller and the other attorneys in the Special Prosecutor's office probably have their own thoughts as to the implications about the President's comments about the judicial system and how they relate to an obstruction of justice investigation. Methinks we may yet see this statement again in an indictment yet to be unsealed.

I hope he thinks we need quick and strong justice when HIS name is on an indictment. Treason deserves severe punishment.

This is a schtick with our Mr. Trump. Besides his default tantrum and ridicule whenever he's thwarted by division of power, he's been painting a picture of judges as part of the liberal, clueless, biased elite since his campaign. Stoking the fires of division as usual, but I agree this could bite him in the end...although I'm decreasingly confident there will ever be an end.
Note: I have no idea whether the US justice system is the best in the world. Kind of doubt it, as it certainly seems to have its systemic faults. And frankly, the more I hang out on the internet, the more apprehensive I get about me-or-mine ever being judged by a jury of peers. But these cases of criticism by the president (reacting to judicial blocks on his immigration and military policies...or these muddled, backhanded swipes at past administrations by criticizing past sentences for terrorists) are inappropriate, damaging, and divisive.
He's a dope, but a crafty dope. Here's hoping his dopiness undoes him before his craftiness undoes us.

Well, your president is the one who is the laughing stock of the entire world, not your legal system (but, btw, OP, I wonder WHY you call it the best legal system in the world? What makes it better than say, the legal system in Sweden? Or in France? Or the Australian one?)

His REAL job. The one he cares about and is either being paid for or blackmailed over.

I think that his disgust with the judicial system is due to his own fear of it. Perhaps he is setting up his base and supporters to believe this in case the system comes for him!

I had to laugh out loud at the WH Dwellers sound piece yesterday trying to explain that comment away. "He didn't say THAT, he said the process was a laughingstock" Either way bitch, he's trashing the Constitution. Where in the hell did he think our Justice system came from?

This is the guy who took out a full-page ad in the NYT asking us to "bring back the death penalty" for guys who turned out not to be guilty of their charged offenses.
Let's chew on that.

It was hard to be black in NYC during this years. And Trump loved to fan the flames. The same crap he's pulling now on a national level. To use the terrorist attack the other day as another reason to ban immigrants? So now is he going to bet Uzbekistan on the list of banned countries on the list, since that's where the terrorist is from?

My take on what he said yesterday was that he wants to do something to this guy that would be hasty and an emotional response to what he did. He once again, he doesn't think through what he is saying/proposing and just shoots his mouth off with the first thought that he had.

Trump also argued that the U.S. justice system takes too long and that authorities "have to come up with punishment that's far quicker ... than the punishment these animals are getting right now." Several Republican senators, including Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., and John McCain, R-Ariz., had argued on Wednesday that Saipov should be labeled an enemy combatant. As commander in chief, Trump can classify an individual as an enemy combatant, empowering the United States to detain that person without trial and without the rights granted to civilians, such as the right to a lawyer. www.nbcnews.com/politics/politics-news/trump-demands-death-penalty-nyc-terror-suspect-n816781

You know what'd be funny if it weren't so serious? Trump has tweeted 16 times about the attack in NYC. (It may be higher since this morning). He tweeted a condolence regarding the Vegas tragedy one time. Once.
What about justice for all of those victims?
