I love wrapping presents. Heck, the more quiet and alone I am, the more I can focus and do well. The perfect folding of the paper gives me such satisfaction, I'm not even exaggerating. One of my friends comes over during December when she knows I'll be wrapping gifts because she finds it calming to watch me do it. It's our silly tradition: she picks up take-away coffee for the both of us, brings over some gifts that need wrapping and relaxes in my comfy reading chair while I get down to wrapping business. When all the folding is done and I'm down to ribbons, bows and decorating, we start gossiping.

I love it. I come from a long line of wrappers. I remember my Grandma's beautifully wrapped packages -- usually in pastel tissue paper. My mom continued the tissue paper tradition, and her signature was yarn ribbon to coordinate. Not fancy, but so elegant nonetheless.
I am a sucker for beautiful papers and ribbons and baubles to put on top. I have amassed a large collection and have a whole wall of shelves in the basement to hold everything. I keep saying I need to use up what I have, yet the siren song calls me every year and alas, the collection grows.
One of these years, I am going to coordinate my wrapping. I've seen pics of perfectly coordinated packages under the tree and it looks lovely. Mine are beautiful, but I like to make each one unique and try not to use the same paper or combo twice. Little works of art.

Physically it's getting harder and harder for me to do it each year, so I'm starting to hate it because it makes me hurt. BUT the idea of it I love. I have to hide in our bedroom to wrap and it's hard to do it on the bed. I think if I had a solid table it would be easier.

Years ago, my dd was gifted about 20 homemade Christmas gift bags made out of a variety of Christmas fabric. Such a great gift. She used them for presents from Santa.

I love it as long as I'm not too rushed. I enjoy making the packages look beautiful and unique with pretty ribbons & tags. DD also loves it so many times we wrap together (except for each other's gifts, of course). Sometimes we work together so that one of us wraps and the other does ribbons & tags. I usually wrap in the basement family room where there is plenty of room to spread out (and where we keep all the wrapping supplies). However, every year I inevitably end up having some amount of last-minute wrapping that can only be done in the bedroom (usually late at night) where it's much harder to do, especially large gifts. DH doesn't mind wrapping, but his signature style is to use no ribbon and only minimal or no tags. If he doesn't use a tag he just writes on the wrapping paper who it's for.

I found it was becoming more like a chore to wrap presents, so I decided to make it a little more fun. I have an empty large closet in my house (after my son moved out), so I made a "wrapping room." It's got all of my wrapping paper and boxes, ribbons, scissors, tape, tags, etc all in one place. I set a table up in that bedroom, and put some Christmas shows on the TV and wrap away. lol I don't dread it any more. Here's my closet - Attachments:

I used to love it when the kids were younger but now it's mostly clothes boxes over and over and over. I do enjoy picking 3 or 4 coordinating papers with bows and some bags so they all look so pretty under the tree. But it's tedious and makes my back ache. So I drink wine and put something on TV that I've already seen and don't have to concentrate on too hard. Like Die Hard or Love Actually, my 2 favorite Christmas movies 😬. And I'll try to do it in a couple of sessions as well. I won't wrap as I buy, I have to buy it all then lay it all out in the bedroom and make sure the kids are 'even' looking before I start boxing and wrapping.

Im thinking a brown paper sack would work. LOL SaveSaveI was thinking shrink wrap! I say a straight jacket! I'm okay with wrapping. I use many different papers but I always buy the better quality. DH hates the money spent on wrap and I have to agree, but nothing is better seeing everything under the tree on Christmas morning. We don’t put any gifts under until Christmas Eve so it's always nice to see the pretty packages. My 16 year old DS asked if he could help wrap this year, so I jumped at it. DH usually wraps all his own gifts but this year he can't get downstairs where we do it all, so DS offered to help. Love that kid.

I enjoy it. My mom used to give me presents to wrap (except mine) for her.
I love looking for wrapping paper with snowflakes on it. I'm supposed to use up most of what we have before I can buy more but that's not going to stop me from buying at least one roll. I'll compromise and buy it after the holidays.

I've always been the gift wrapper, even when I was a kid. My mom would say "don't look" and I'd wrap my own gifts LOL.She still manages to saddle me with her wrapping. I enjoy it under the right circumstances. I hate to be rushed and I don't like doing a bazillion gifts in one go round.

I LOVE wrapping presents. I am the designated wrapper in my family. Yes, I do take wrapping a bit seriously and will search for the perfect wrapping paper. I love going to TJ Maxx or Marshall's. They have nice, thick paper that's priced nicely. I love buying the coordinating ribbon at Michael's and I usually use wreath picks or ornaments to decorate the packages. Also, tulle makes packages look nice as well.
Hahha, if I lived near you all, I would happily volunteer to wrap your presents.

Timely post. I spent 4 hours at work today wrapping empty boxes to put under the Christmas trees in our hotel lobby. My boss kindly volunteered me. He knows how much I love to wrap gifts. At home I'm the wrapper. DH will put my gifts in a box for me to wrap. Otherwise everything from him comes in a gift bag. I still have wrapping paper from our first married Christmas in 1990. My problem is I love to buy new wrap but don't get even close to using it up.

Im thinking a brown paper sack would work. LOL SaveSaveI was thinking shrink wrap! That would burn when you took the heat tool to it to shrink it though, so I would say clear plastic cling wrap! To answer the OP, I fall somewhere between like and love wrapping. I don’t typically use gift bags although I have been doing that a little more for kid birthday presents simply because that’s what DD’s birthday presents tend to come in and I hate throwing away something that’s perfectly good and can be reused. I like using nice heavyweight paper like the double sided kind that Costco sells. Every year I look for any that have a generic design on the B side so I can use it year round. I’ve always been the designated wrapper in my family even when I was a kid so I have decades of practice. I do everything for DD and DH and everything coming from Santa. If DH buys me something he will wrap it up, usually in some weird oddball paper like Sunday paper comics, Realtree Camo gift wrap or brown paper that glass gets wrapped in from the hardware store, LOL. He knows where all the Costco rolls of paper are kept down in my studio (not to mention that there is plenty of space to wrap stuff on my work tables), plus all the tape, scissors, bows, anything he would want or need to do the task is all right there laying out. My biggest tip (other than using heavy paper which was already recommended) would be to start stockpiling boxes in various sizes starting 6-8 weeks ahead of time. You can always break down and recycle any you don’t use, but it makes it so much easier to wrap clothing or any toys packaged in those weird blister packs if you put them in a box first. I save boxes from the double pack boxes of cereal, snacks or crackers from Costco, often they’re a nice sturdy weight and a good size for wrapping lots of stuff. I also save clean boxes from Amazon if they’re a good size to wrap something. I should get a part time job wrapping gifts because I’m really good at it and very efficient.

I enjoy it for the first 5-8 gifts then I get sick of it! A few things have impacted my feelings about wrapping: 1. when 3 of nieces were each seniors in high school- a big fundraiser for the class was gift wrapping at the mall....and parents had to volunteer to wrap. Being the nice sister and aunt, I signed up for lots of shifts! It was particularly challenging the year 1 niece was class president--we covered lots of shifts nobody else wanted! Most people were great and when they found out it was to benefit a class, they often paid more than prices posted so it was a great fundraiser! but oh my aching back and feet! 2. the year my sister and her husband were in the middle of construction on their home (they added a second story, new kitchen, bath-the works! ..for 6 months 5 people lived with me!) we wrapped the gifts on a saw horse in the unheated home. Remember- I live in Massachusetts!December, Massachusetts, no heat, frozen fingers...I cried for gift bags...lol! Yup- same family as the mall gift wrapping! I love my baby sister and her daughters!!

I am a horrible gift wrapper. It always looks like a kid wrapped the gifts. I wish I could wrap beautifully. Maybe if I went slowly and took lots of time.

I love it. It is the one thing, the only thing, I miss about our no gifting way of Christmas. When I was in high school and college, my mother would put my gifts in boxes, tape the boxes shut and give them to me to wrap!

I love to wrap packages and if I may say so myself, I am good at it. I always say it is my one Martha Stewart like skill. I make really pretty big bows and I usually wrap all my packages in the same paper.

I enjoy picking out the paper. But that is about it. With four kids and a big family (and often times having to do shopping for the kids from other family members), I have a lot to wrap and it gets annoying after awhile.
I agree with quality paper. I like the huge rolls from sams club. I had two for several years and am just finishing them up. I bought a new one last year so bought three more this year. I might return one, or use it for santa paper. Otherwise I would be using the same paper for another five years again. Good thing I like it. Lol

I hate it. And there's no way I'm buying expensive paper to wrap gifts the kids tear through in minutes, and all goes into the trash.

I worked at JCP's gift wrap counter for several years as a teen....I dislike wrapping now Me, too!! well, not JCP's and not as a teen, but in a beautiful huge 3-story gift shop. This time of year, I spent my whole shift wrapping. I really enjoyed it because it was a vacation location for a lot of customers (some locals) and because they were on vacation, most were in a great mood and thankful to have their gifts wrapped. One of the senior employees taught me some helpful wrapping tips and I got pretty good at it. One of the best things about working a retail wrapping counter was that everything was organized and at your finger tips... gift boxes, ribbons, scissors, everything. I try to do this at home as well.

It is Precious Moments theme! hahahaha It is all pink and tacky but was the paper form my daughter's first Christmas. I have used up my other outdated papers buy using them to cover my craft table (white side up so I do not have to look at the prints).

I don't enjoy it at all. Last year I set up a long table in my living room and left it there for a week while I worked on wrapping everything. My plan this year is to watch a couple episodes of The Crown while I wrap, this should make it a little better!

The other day I happened to have Rachel Ray show on. She had a demo of a bow-maker on there and said she uses only brown paper and then pretty ribbon. Maybe this will be fun?

I love wrapping presents. We don't have much family, so I don't really get to wrap a lot, so I go every year to the Mental Health Association and wrap gifts for their annual "Operation Santa Claus" (and I take my leftover paper with me when I go so I have an excuse to buy new paper for myself )
