I've done olw for years now some of more successful ones were believe, hope, fath, some less so focus.
I thrown around thankful, then also survive or even breathe
I'm just not in the right frame of mind right now.

Ali shared a walkthrough video of all her past OLW albums... she's never shared them outside the class before, only sneaks, so this is a lot of new info. Maybe it'll help convince someone to buy the class (or not buy the class and just reverse engineer the prompts from her old albums ). Blog post herethanks for sharing that link. I am still on the fence...not sure why I am dragging my feet. Does anyone know if there is going to be a digital kit for this? SaveSaveThe digital kit is "free" with the class- OLW digitalIf you scroll down the blog post a bit, there are pics of it. Never done this project before, but I'm going to give it a go this year. Thinking my word will be "light". Or "lighter"...don't want to be too ambitious. Some things in my life have been feeling very emotionally heavy lately; "light" kind of picked itself. I bought an album but nothing else. The digital kit plus things I already have should be more than enough

Would someone who has taken the class explain what the class offers? Sounds like you get an email every month? I have a word for the first time and I'm interested in taking the class to keep a focus on the word, but I'm unsure. I also definitely don't want to buy any products.

1) What is your word? More
2) Why did you choose it? What does it mean to you? I've been doing the minimal for too long.
3) Have you done it in the past? yes
4) Do you plan on taking the class? no
5) What supplies are you planning to buy? none

I'm still so torn. I did this project years ago, but we ended up moving across the country in the middle of it and I never got back into it. I've got a word, but I am unsure if I should take the class again.
I see in the email I got this morning that there is a bonus digital kit being offered right now plus the class is $5 off. I should just order!

1) What is your word? LESS 2) Why did you choose it? What does it mean to you?- Less stuff
- Less procrastination
- Less self-imposed stress
- Less non-water drinks
- Less etc, etc
3) Have you done it in the past? I only started but did not follow-through 4) Do you plan on taking the class? Thinking about it IF I buy some of the current items. If not, I will do the 2016 class I paid for already. 5) What supplies are you planning to buy? Hopefully none. And I am only posting this for accountability (of sorts). This weekend I will start making out my full list of what I want to do LESS of, and maybe pick 3 to work on during January.

i dont know if i am going to participate in this. I am torn between words. Tossing around CALM, PEACE, BREATHE. I am deeply involved in the trump resistance and i need to learn how to handle the stress better. I have never done this before, and TBH, I am not good at keeping up with these sorts of things. I don't plan on taking the class at this point, but who knows. It might help keep me on track. One of the OLW prompts is to think about secondary words that might be related to your main word, do having a few closely related words in mind is OK. One way to approach the choosing is to work with the word, define it, use it in phrases/idioms, see which words feel good or calls to you, and which has the most meanings that speak to you. That's basically the first month's prompt, btw. It's OK to go into it with a couple of related words and see where that takes you. I feel like verbs often work well with the prompts that Ali gives, but if you're not doing the class it probably doesn't matter. And if a word feels right you're much more likely to follow through. Susannah Conway offers a printable workbook that might help for people who don't want to do Ali's year long course (which is quite hard to stick with). I haven't done it myself but she seems to have quite a big following and she has a beautiful Instragram. There's also a free email course to help you find your word here which sounds like it might be helpful. ETA: the Unravel Your Year workbook link (free sign up) Thank you for this! I'd never heard of Susannah Conway before. This looks like a great resource and I like the focus on journaling instead of product. I'm going to do the free workbook instead of Ali's class.

So, I am doing OLW again. Never taken the class but have focused on a word every year for the last, probably, 5 years.
This year my word is Progress.
Progress instead of perfection. Progress even when the goal seems unobtainable. Progress as a goal vs. a finish line. Progress in my creative endeavors, home life, fitness, food choices, self care.

So I'm in...and I bought the class because I wanted the digitals.
My word: Choose/Choice (I need to figure out which one flows better)
I have several areas in my life I would like to make some choices (and changes) in so I want to focus on the fact that I can choose how I engage with all of those things.

You will receive an email once per month reminding you that the new class is up on her website. You will receive a total of 12 lessons/prompts about ways to connect with your word and ways to document via a scrapbook, art journal or whatever you choose. You can take the class without buying AE products, I took it and used my stash for several years. You also do get the digital items as part of the class, and you can use them digitally or print them for use in your scrapbook.

This will be my 7th (?) Year doing OLW. My previous words have been 2017 rise, 2016 up, 2015 embrace, 2014 thrive, 2013 restore. My word for 2018 is BUILD I've had a lot of good stuff start happening for me this past fall and I want to build on it. Exercise wise, healthy eating wise, work wise and relationship wise. So build works for me.
I signed up for the class but won't be buying any new stuff. This will be my 3rd time doing the class, first time was good, second I didn't finish, fingers crossed for the third 😉
I find it really helps having a Pinterest board dedicated for each OLW so that I can keep adding to it through the year.

I've never done OLW, but I really like the idea. I took this quiz from Dayspring and thought I'd share it in case others might be interested in using it to help choose a word. It does have a Christian perspective, so that might not work for everyone: Find Your Word quiz

Just my 2 cents.

This will be I think my 8th year choosing a word. I’ve taken the class once (although did not make it very far in the year with the class, but was very successful with my word that year!). For 2018 I am taking the class and I think I’ve settled on BRAVE, with STRONG as a companion word.

My word is budget. I need one and dont have one.
I will go to scrap retreats and conventions but I am going to budget for them. I am going to stop letting my fear of not having scrap stuff keep me in hoarder mode.
I am going to be on a freeze unless I am budgeted for something or there is something I must have. Right now that is Nutcracker paper or stickers.
I dont take classes

I second a vote for choose. It was my word this year (2017) and I like it. Also i would suggest searching on Elise blaha cripe’s blog... choose was her word years ago and she wrote an amazing post about why she made it her word and it really sold me on the word myself.

I have chosen a word on and off for the last years. It lived with me usually till April/May and then vanished - lol. This year my word will be LEARN, like in 'learn from mistakes', 'learn something new' (I would love to learn a new language and calligraphy), 're-learn sewing' (I haven't sewn in years!), 'learn to accept'(as a cancer survivor I still haven't made peace with things that have changed due to the illness), 'learn to do things in time' (I'm a big procrastinator). I did the OLW workshop the first two years at BPC, but I didn't finish (I should add 'learn to finish' to my list). From all I read about the workshop now, nothing has changed, so I will use the old prompts and videos to guide me. I will also not buy any new products and will use my stash. I do not want to do a 6x8 album, I'm thinking a 12x12 layout per month or a Travelers Notebook. Has anyone done 12x12 layouts in the past?

I've signed up for the class, and I bought the products as well - so I'm all in, lol. I've settled on my word - it's Focus. I recently found out I have ADHD and it explains so much about my entire life - and lack of focus has always been an issue for me - as well as hyper focus, which is also a gift/curse for people with ADHD. Anyway, there are many things I want to focus on, and having never been one to set goals or adhere to a vision, I think just focusing on the little steps and daily things I can do to improve my life is the way for me to go.
I'm excited to start. I should pre-plan a bit because I didn't for my december daily and I've barely started that, oops.

For 2018 I’ve chosen CULTIVATE as my word. My intent is to focus on nurturing, nourishing, and feeding the good things in my life and starving the bad ones. I joined the class a few years, and found it uninspiring after a year or two. I am using Lara Casey’s PowerSheets for goal setting this year so my OLW stems from there.
Not sure if I’ll scrap any of it, but I may do a 12x12 update each month related to my word. I found doing a separate album was too much and have never completed a full year. On the positive side, I’ve got several partial AE OLW kits knocking around.

I am still away on vacation and enjoying being the procrastinorest of all procrastinators. But I suddenly had a eurêka moment today. I hadn't settled on a word for the past few weeks, got the class, Ali's email about the first being up and then, a few hours ago, I had this sudden realisation: my word for the year is commit. There might be some big changes ahead of me (and my SO). But to make those big changes (whichever way they go), I need to commit to a few things beforehand. I need to make smaller things happen before big life changes can happen. So, I'll focus on commitment in its many different forms for OLW. I've just spent a good hour going through citations and quotes about commitment, both in English and in my mother tongue. I was scribbling them down in the living room, amidst all the socialising, and had several people asking me what I was doing. It was actually really nice to share one of my craft projects to loved ones who thought it was all very obscure and strange. I was literally asked whether I had a deadline to send my "homework" in to this Mrs Edwards. "No, I follow the workshop through the year. This goes into a small album I'm making for myself. Nobody checks. It's an introspective reflection with some creative aspects to it." I didn't realise how puzzling this looks to outsiders to the craft. But I loved sharing it and trying to explain. I could see the wheels spinning and was, in the end, complimented on taking on such a project. I hope everyone is finding their way to their word and enjoying starting to delve into it.

I'm actually thankful that AE gave a walk through of her albums. Everyone talks about this project, but I was unsure if I was just looking at uninspiring flip throughs by other people. Seeing her albums cements for me that this is not the project for me. I'm not an emotional storyteller or someone who feels the desire to write down "intentional" thoughts.

I wasn't going to participate this year, after dropping out around april/May of last year and not finishing the album. But the more I thought about, and after watching Ali's walk through I realized that this project continues to appeal to me because I don't keep a journal but I want a space for deliberate self reflection. After much searching I've chosen intentional for my word. I want to be intentional about how I spend my money and time, how I parent, the company I keep and the words I say. I'm going to reuse the album and supplies I bought last year as well as the class. I sat down and wrote some reflections yesterday, so I'm already off to a good start, now I just need the motivation to keep going.
