Whiskey. Tango. Foxtrot.
Is anyone really going to buy that now - the week before Christmas?
It's just so frustrating the way holidays/seasons are rushed and pushed. I am totally fine with crafts stores having early roll-outs, but enough already everywhere else. It's December and the winter clothes are already being marked down. Winter hasn't even officially started yet!
Sigh. Time goes fast enough. I wish they'd stop pushing it along.
Vent over.

It’s crazy. I was at BJs yesterday and they had a big bag of candy that was labeled “Spring Mix”. Yikes.

I know no one wants to hear the reason. But they have the space to fill. It’s better to fill it with holiday stuff they know will eventual will sell, instead of ordering a ton of non-holiday stuff they may be stuck with.

The Christmas buying season has come to an end. They have sold the merchandise and have empty shelf space. They aren't going to restock with Christmas because they will then be stuck with Christmas inventory that didn't sell at all or had to be sold at a steep discount. It also is bad business to leave shelves empty. So they stock of the next big event.

I totally get the business reasons behind it Crazyhare and voltagain but some days I wish they'd fill it with something more generic until the current holiday had passed. I know it's a silly wish to have things more "current" and relevant to the time/season.

Last year I was at the grocery store on Christmas Eve and they had a display of Cadbury Eggs!

We should all be used to this by now. Retail runs way ahead of the current season.

That is how I feel when I see Christmas stuff start coming out in September! It's December and the winter clothes are already being marked down. Winter hasn't even officially started yet! My mom just saw a light winter coat she liked. It is in the 70's here. But, I told her she better buy it now because when you need it, they'll be selling spring clothing!

Yep as soon as we start running low on Xmas candy the valentines comes in!! My grocery chain does not put it out until after Xmas because of the complaints. Realities of retail. As soon as valentines is done, Easter and spring summer is sitting in back room!!

Yeah working in a grocery store has opened my eyes... too many shelves getting empty and not enough room to store everything.. so yeah, on the shelf it goes. Our store is still good though.. I did see they moved a bunch of stuff around because it was getting a little bare.. they moved a ton of Christmas decorations from the front entrance back to the Christmas isle.

There should just be candy wrappers that are printed for Christmas on one side, and Valentine's Day on the other.
LOL. Joking. Almost.

The day before Halloween I thought "Oh, I should pick up some candy" and my local grocery store had all of the Halloween candy in one bin and were putting out Christmas stuff.
I know the reasons but is anyone really buying Christmas candy literally 2 months before?

I know the reasons but is anyone really buying Christmas candy literally 2 months before? I do for certain candies. There are some treats that I want to make sure I have the correct items and it helps to spread out the costs to buy over a few weeks than all at once. Especially treats for stocking stuffers, I can't tell you how many times I saw something that was perfect but thought it was too soon to buy only to find it sold out a week later. And of course the store doesn't get anymore in. So when I see something I like, I buy whether it is in October or December.

My Target usually fills some of the empty spaces with large packages of toilet paper and paper towels, and large storage sterlites and Rubbermaids.

Did they stock the Reese's peanut butter hearts? The answer will determine my opinion.

When I worked in retail, the idea was to be six months ahead of the current season. That was a long time ago.

Yup, mine too. I went shopping on Saturday morning and needed Hershey kisses...went up and down the "seasonal" aisle and couldn't find any with the Christmas wrappers-but they had Valentine's. I actually looked at the bag and tried to decide if I should buy them and use the red ones and save the pink ones for later. Decided to wait and go to another store for the appropriate bag. I like to scatter the "kisses" in my cookie boxes that I make up for gifts.

Same with Halloween, Valentine and Easter candy.

I have to advertise my Valentine's boudoir sessions this week to get everything ready and done by Valentine's day. Sucks they are so close together.

It's frustrating, especially when you (I) need to buy something last-minute and it's no longer out on the racks or shelves.

I have to advertise my Valentine's boudoir sessions this week to get everything ready and done by Valentine's day. Sucks they are so close together. I can completely understand this. Your business is run by appointments and it takes time to schedule the shoots, get the proofs, etc. In this instance I completely support this. In fact, I can see it as a Christmas gift (gift certificate) between couples. Ooh. I think I have a new marketing theme for you. In September when I was watching the Christmas decorations go up at my grocery store I was annoyed. The universe shouldn't be run on retail commercialism.

Our universe shouldn't be run on retail time but if I waited until the "acceptable" holiday seasons to start to get the things I need, I would be running around with my head cut off so I am in the minority that appreciates the early stocking. I am one of those weirdos who buys holiday candy and things very early because there have been so many years I waited and then everything was sold out. Especially after the recession when stores started ordering lean on holiday stuff. I think about Halloween and clean out/stock up on Thanksgiving spices as soon as the kids are in school. I buy their school supplies when they are put out in July. I plan for summer when Easter is over. I plan for St. Patrick's day/Easter after Valentines. And yes, I will be buying what I need for Valentine's day after my Christmas is packed up after New Years. Why not? It keeps and I can spread out the expense if I want to be more extravagant. And it is load off my mind to have everything taken care of. But it is kind of ridiculous when there is a point in winter when you can buy a bikini but not a coat! So put out things early but still have what people may need now in stock.

why not? michaels and joanns are practically cleared out of xmas merch. michaels already has one aisle of spring decor. so i'm not surprised the valentines stuff is out.
