And we loved it! I hate going to the movie theater. The last time I was there was November 2015 (I can't believe it was that long ago). I'd seen previews for The Greatest Showman and really wanted to go and see it. Then I read a bad review, and was so disappointed and decided I didn't want to go after all. But last Friday hubby told me I was going and I wasn't allowed to say no. I was kind of pissy about it. But I went, along with DD2 and hubby. There were only about 6 of us in the theater. Well, it was FABULOUS! Oh my, I basically sat there grinning like a fool from the first song to the last. DH and DD loved it as well. It was beautiful visually, the songs are SO infectious, the choreography is amazing, the casting is superb. This is Hugh Jackman at his best, doing what he was born to do and he is perfection. I'd never seen Zach Efron in a movie before, and he is wonderful, utterly charming and such a good singer and dancer. Zendaya is luminous. The "freaks" are just so lovely to watch. Don't go see this film for the story, don't expect historical accuracy, and know that the songs are all modern (as was the case in Moulin Rouge, my favorite film of all time). Go for the spectacle, the feel-good music, the spot-on performances. I left the theater wanting to sing and dance. And I plan to go see it again before it leaves the theater, and we already know it's a movie we will buy on DVD. And the icing on the cake is that this is a totally family friendly film suitable for all ages, so you can take the kids along. I think I've only seen one other film more than once in a theater: Moulin Rouge. So you know I must REALLY like this film!

We have tickets for Jan 4th. I am so looking forward to it. DH decided this was definitely a 'Big Screen' movie - often we just wait for movies to make it to Sky to watch them, especially as some movies don't get a long run in the only theatre here that shows them in English.

I could have written this post except for the Moulin Rouge part (never saw it). This was our “Christmas Day movie,” and we left the theater just enchanted by the whole thing. ❤️

My friend at work has been talking about this one and I wasn’t that interested till I saw a trailer. After your review I will go. Moulin rouge is one of my all time favorites too. 😁😁

We saw this movie on Christmas Day. Zella, your review is spot-on. I usually don't care for musicals but this one was fantastic. 👍

I love musicals and I really enjoyed this film. It is visually stunning, and the singing is excellent.
I thought some of the transitions were a bit awkward. I really wanted a song with Loren Allred and Hugh Jackman. She has an amazing voice.

I'm glad your DH made you go, sounds like it was just what you needed! You should go again, you sound so uplifted Zella I was thinking it liked like a good show to see. I caught a bit of the commerical the first time passing through the living room and I thought it was Mel Gibson (from 15 yeara ago!) as the lead. 8

I really want to see this one in the theater. I may have to have DH take me on a date to see it soon.

The reviews I’ve read have all been very negative. Tickets are too expensive to go to a bad movie. I’m really disappointed because I love Hugh Jackman.
We have a nice big screen TV so this will definitely be one movie I will rent.

My girls (26, 18, 18) had their tongues hanging out over Zac. Oldest DD said she thinks he is one of those guys who will get better with age, like Paul Newman and George Clooney.

Joining the love fest...I LOVED this movie. It was so wonderful and I left feeling so happy and full of joy.
DO see this in the theater if you want to see it. That's how it's meant to be seen.

We’ve seen 5 movies over the past six days, Pitch Perfect 3, Darkest Hour, Greatest Showman, Jumanji, and All the Money in the World, and The Greatest Showman was by far my favorite. Loved it!

We saw it today and really enjoyed it. I only went because my ds wanted to see it. He isn't much of a movie person so I take note when he does. I checked reviews prior but didn't read much. We both really enjoyed it. I didn't know it was a musical until it started.

My 14 year old son and I saw it Christmas night. LOVED it! I didn't ready any reviews until the next day and was really surprised about how negative they are. We thoroughly enjoyed the entire move, and bought the soundtrack when we got home. 10/10 from both of us!

i have been wanting to see it for a while now... once it came out the buzz was super-positive so i will make sure to see it on the big screen.
i am a huge hugh jackman fan. i saw his one-man show when it came to toronto a couple of years ago. he is the real deal... funny, talented, sexy and real family man. i LOVE him.
unfortunately, it will have to be after the new star wars. gettin' major pressure from the kids so hoping to see that tomorrow.

Critics reactions and movie goers opinions have been so divergent. I find that Rotten Tomatoes is a pretty good indicator for me so I wasn't planning to see this in the theater (seemed like good candidate for the cheap theater). But all the positive reviews from people have made me reconsider.

It’s on my list! I loved Moulin Rouge too...we are going to a midnight sing along performance for NYE this year...can’t wait. Guess what? WE'RE GOING TOO!!!!! Oh, I'm so excited I could pee my pants! I just told hubby that one of the peas is going to a Moulin Rouge singalong. He asked me where it is, and I said I didn't know. So I looked it up, then with bated breath went through the ticket purchase process and. . . we got tickets! Oh my word! We have a history with this film. We saw it three times at the movies. First time was just hubby and I, second time was us plus our 2 girls and one of their good friends, and third time was all four of our girls (his 2 and my 2). Hubby's older daughter started sobbing during the film and kept going until long after we left the theater. I'm so terrible. . . I kept laughing because her sobbing was so intense (I didn't let her hear but I couldn't help myself). It is, as I already said, MY FAVORITE MOVIE EVER! And I think that's true for both my DD's too. They are coming as well. So, cmpeter, I guess I'll see you there? I'm presuming this is the same show we're talking about; only one search result came up for this. Hubby was willing to travel to go, but it's RIGHT HERE!!!! Can you tell I'm excited?

Glad you enjoyed it. I have tickets for Friday afternoon. I wanted so badly to see it on a Christmas but waited too long and it was sold out everywhere. I’ve already been listening to the soundtrack on Spotify.

For me, it was the kind of celebration of humanity that I'm missing these days. Combine that with just the beauty of the movie itself, the uplifting music, the great acting, and it was just a joy to watch. A wonderful escape. I cried happy tears. And these days that's a welcome experience.

Looking at my top books of the year, a lot of fantasy/speculative fiction which I normally don't read a lot of.

My DD and I watched Moulin Rouge on TV last night.. its just not as good as in the theatre.
