Just got the email as well. I haven't shopped there in awhile but always sad to see another store close.

I hate to see them go. It's a good sale, though. I got 40% off even the clearance merchandise which was already marked down. I wonder how much of my order I will actually get? Hope their website is up to date.

I got the email today too. I haven't ordered from them in years because I found their site more difficult to navigate than others but I'm so sad any time a store closes.

As a side topic, why are all the LSSs gone? Is it due to internet shops? Or something else? I stopped shopping at my LSS because they were rude...but I suspect the vast majority were quite nice. I kind of miss having a LSS close by for instant shopping gratification, on the other hand, I am happy with my online sources.

I have found that almost every single item I can get elsewhere is marked up quite a bit from the box box stores and online. I try to buy things I don't see elsewhere and just suck it up knowing it is marked up so much. It is the cost of running a brick and mortar store. More expenses so higher prices.

I think a lot of it is due to overhead and the fact that a lot of what they sell is inexpensive. You have to sell a lot of paper to pay the rent. My LSS (which is closed now) would be open on Sunday’s and maybe only get a couple of paying customers the whole day. So then they started changing hours and things kind of went downhill after that.

I had no idea about this! Something I missed when I wasn't on the boards much. So sad.

I think one of the reasons the LSSs closed is that scrapbooking peaked and declined as many hobbies tend to do. I remember before scrapbooking rubber stamping was hot. There were 4 stamp stores within a 10 minute drive and the rubber stamp convention had so many vendors it took all day to look through everything. Now it’s down to no stores and a tiny convention where I spend about 2 hours if I go.
Amazingly there are still two LSSs by me. I like being able to see things in real life so I’ll buy from them if they have anything interesting.

another reason for stores closing is the fact that they sometimes had to place larger size orders with their suppliers... and that meant they had to sell a LOT of pieces of paper, etc.! But if people want different styles / colors, the store couldn't always buy them all... trying to host crops, get teachers for classes, cater to different tastes, travel to the trade shows (trends, and new releases started coming out multiple times a year, etc.) My local store closed last fall (so the owners could finally spend some time with their families), and during that process, we had some interesting conversations about the 'business' of a brick and mortar SB store.

We own a tool company and our “minimums” are quite astronomical. You really have to hustle to keep product moving. I think a lot of lss got their starts as crafters hoping to turn their passion into profit and that’s the best way but you really do have to turn over A LOT of 50 cent pieces of paper to feed a family. That’s why I’ve never been interested in running a craft business. Or any business of my own really because my husbands is completely time consuming. We’re at a convention now and combining our vacation with it and it’s exhausting!!

When our kids were teenagers, one of them finally asked "have we ever had a vacation that wasn't a business trip?" LOL, the answer was "no". And yes, it is exhausting, but hey, you gotta get that write-off when you can.

I know that the stores in Canada took a bit hit when Scrapbook Eh? Closed down...it was a wholesaler in Canada that you were able to buy from and not have to place your minimums on your own. They also owned Scrapbookers paradise (4 stores strong) that shut down around the same time. Now Canadian sb stores have to order right from the individual companies so sometimes that means not being able to order from 20 different companies (not that there are that many anymore) but only maybe 5 or 6.

What the heck is going on? Was this the biggest scam ever???
ETA: well not a scam because they don't appear to have ripped people off, but definitely a giant lie!
ETA again....well a lot of the stuff is on sale, so it seems like the same stuff they had while they were "closing". I only saw Shimelle's Box of Crayons as newer stuff. But i did not check all the pages.

I read on a FB page that several ladies bought the store, so the owners have changed. That is great news! I hope they update the website though. I stopped shopping there because if the website. It was so frustrating that I finally gave up. I work with computers all day so it's not like I'm a complete tech moron lol

I read on a FB page that several ladies bought the store, so the owners have changed. They should have said so in that announcement. Not only do they make Scott and his wife seem like liars, but they make it seems as if they (the new owners) have done business with BM customers in the past. As far as I am concerned, new owners mean a new company, and they will have to prove themselves first.

Yes, new ownership will mean a whole new store. May not be at all like it was.

By coincidence I opened 2 emails this morning from over the weekend. The 1st was the Bluemoon one and I scratched my head cause I noticed the address wasn't the address of where the store had been. I thought maybe Scott's wife was doing it out of her home now.
I move over on to the next email which was from a group I used to be part of that's called Women with scissors. Talks about classes they are offering and whatnot and I look at the bottom of the email and it has the same physical address as the Bluemoon one! If I recall one of the womens name was Susan and she did classes at Bluemoon, at the old scrapbook store down in Green Valley, and at hobby lobby.
I think the email should have said under new ownership or something of the sort. I'm sad we won't be able to go in and actually shop there. And they are carrying lines that Scott never did like Doodlebug so I am hoping they do well!! We shall see!!
Edited to add: they also owned The Little house where the would hold crops and classes. I haven't seen them advertise anything about the little house in years, so I'm assuming they don't have it anymore.
