I just got back from the store and I'm going to give it a whirl. I think my family will like this. Thanks!

i have made it many times. i do find the flavour very rich and almost heavy. next time i make it i will add an extra cup of water over more broth, just to dilute the flavour a bit.
love the red pepper flakes though - don't wanna take away the heat!!

What is the issue with the onion soup mix that some have a problem with? Is this another item I should stay away from, or is it just the taste? MSG MSG MSG my kids cannot tolerate it at all. I had to even avoid it while breastfeeding unless I wanted babies that were wired and screamed for hours on end.

I haven't tried it yet. I will one of these days but I'm not a huge fan of onion soup mix.

I don't use it, but did not realize there was an issue with it.

Ok I made it. It tasted like pot roast, not Italian beef, but maybe that's on me. It was very easy in the IP though. I seared both sides first. elaine remember I said my IP didn't have a condensation cup? Well I was wrong...it's been on the back this entire time and I've never once noticed it in all the times I've picked it up and put it away and wiped down the front of that thing. I just noticed it. I don't remember reading about it in the manual and I guess I thought it was just part of the body of the IP. You are vindicated!

Hey. I thought of you guys when I was putting on my Italian beef this morning. I read the ingredients on the onion soup box and couldn't find MSG on the list. Not hydrolyzed yeast, either, although there was some kind of yeast. Maybe it goes by yet another name? Or maybe it has been removed from the mix? elaine, FurryP

The Disodium Guanylate and Disodium Inosinate are similar compounds that are often used in conjunction with MSG because they all enhance the umami of the other. That said, it is simple to make one of the copycat recipes for onion soup mix and still make BF’s Italian Beef.

Yeah, if I cared and weren't so damn lazy, I'd just use beef broth and sliced onions instead.

I haven’t made it because I don’t use onion soup mix, due to food allergies. I’ve been meaning to make my own but haven’t done that yet. It looks really good though, so I’d like to someday. craftedbys ... The first time I made the recipe, I didn't have any soup mix ... I googled a "from scratch" substitute and made it ... It was wonderful! I also made it in a pressure cooker to speed things up. (Wayyy back before the Instant Pot rage, I have a stove top one! LOL) I also seared the roast before cooking. I posted raves about the recipe (I think it may have even been on the old board!) and a bunch of peas chided me for altering it so much! LOL But, it was WONDERFUL, I had everything on hand and I'm grateful for the recipe!!!
