Cleaned out the kid rooms this morning and put away all the Christmas toys. Didn't really get rid of anything except a small bag of toys and a couple of bags of trash. I have mentally ear marked a bunch of large toys to sell on FB groups in February and if they don't, into the mom to mom sale in March they go. We also took down all the Christmas decorations yesterday and moved the bins into the crawl space this morning. Will need to take down the window wreaths but waiting until this afternoon to do that.

I'm in. I need to be in. I'm overwhelmed by clutter and it stresses me out. And I get even more stressed out trying to figure out the best way to go through it and get rid of it. I have too much stuff and it is NOT making me happy. I need to drive that lesson home. Less will be more for me in 2018. I need cheerleaders to remind me, so here I am.

I'm in! My overall goal is to literally go through everything we own to declutter, clean and reorganize if needed, and is very doable. I will have to break it down into smaller goals and decide on a time frame to make it seem less overwhelming. Most areas are well organized and just need a quick purge because I've been lax in recent years. But I have some real problem spots I want to concentrate on, especially the garage and paperwork.

I'm in as we plan on tackling the basement yet again. Another year has gone by without DH touching his DVDs or CDs. We were attempting to sell them on half.com but eBay shut that down. We may go through, create some lots and sell them on eBay. The rest will get donated by the end of the year, depending on when I can get him to start.
My personal goal is to get my fabric and yarn down to what I'll actually use and nothing more. That's so hard when there's so much to choose from! I did have my craft closet neat and organized. Not so much now. Time to go through it and get stuff gone.

I’m in. I have been doing a pretty good job during the last few months. But I need to train the rest of my family to put things where they belong. Any tips on that?

I'm in! Goal today is to fill at least one garbage bag of outgrown clothes to take to the thrift store. Less is more is the goal for 2018 😊

I’m in. My goal is one box per week. I’ve already started with my towels and extra bedding. I have way more than one person will use.

New goals for 2018 include:
1. Maintain the areas in the house where I purged this past year 2. Shopping and eating from our pantry and freezer first 3. Cleaning and purging the basement which includes holiday decor

I'm in. I don't have specific goals yet - that will come in the next week or so. All I know is that I have more stuff than I need and that I have room for.

I'm in. I have to be. I'm a teacher and used to take care of all my decluttering and organizing during the summer. About five years ago we bought a cabin and we live there all summer and are there every weekend in the spring and fall. My house totally reflects that. It's gotten to a point where I can't hide everything in drawers and closets anymore. The thought of taking it all on at once is too overwhelming. Last week I decided that i was going to start taking it in small chunks. My bathrooms seemed like the best place to start. I cleaned and organized the closet and drawers of the vanity upstairs and just need to hit the area under the sink. That seems like such a little job right now that I decided that I'd save it for a a weeknight when i go back to work. Next I need to do the same thing with the bathroom downstairs. I think after that I am going to take on my kitchen - just do a drawer or cabinet every day until the entire thing is done. Then I need to start hitting the bedrooms, entryway, closets.
I am also going to do that challenge where you get rid of things based on what day of the month it is. I started it on Friday - which was the 29th, so I got rid of 29 items. I know I will be doing more than that the beginning of January, but I figure by the time I'm ready to take on the closets that it will be the middle/end of the month and I can get rid of some serious stuff during that time. If I miss a day, no big deal because I did more than needed at the beginning of the month. Then I get a bit of a break once we hit February.

I'm in again this year - it seems that no matter how much I get rid of, there's still too much stuff. So back through all the rooms and closets and cabinets and sheds....again this year in hopes that by this time NEXT year, I'll be able to SEE a difference.
I think I'll start with my bedroom and closet. The closet is hard because I a) share with DH and he has a bigger section and keeps spilling over and b) I'm storing boxes and boxes of DS's stuff (books and Lego he doesn't want stored in the non-climate controlled shed) while he's overseas. There's hardly any of my stuff in there but there is some...
And the bedroom is similar - I can do my stuff but unless DH tackles his, it won't look better. Hoping to inspire him to do some...

I'm in, even though I suck.
My main goal for 2018 wull be to unpack and put everything we want to keep away and donate that which we don't. Some will have yo wait until summer.
(We moved in November of 2016)

My house is generally pretty decluttered since I have a bring something in-take something out mentality... however, I have a crawl space the size of my living room that says differently. I would love to take it all outside and put it on a donation truck. I could keep about 25% of it and be just fine. It is the three males in the house who have a hard time parting with things.

I'm in. I have to be in. I am trying to clean out a large part of my parent's house, and DH keeps telling me I can't bring anyrhing else into out house until I declutter and get rid of stuff we have. So I am trying to purge/declutter/clean 2 houses simultaneously.
I also need to purge and organize all of my fabric/craft supplies.

I'm in.
I have a 6 bedroom house - and there is only 4 of us living here. I have a craft room ( which I cannot walk into at the moment it's soon messy/cluttered) One room is a dedicated junk room ( HAVE to sort this out) The other empty room has all the fishing stuff in, and the left overs from my DDs room when she moved downstairs.
I would also like to go through my cupboards and sort out all the plates and dishes that don't get used.

I'm in! Today I took down 4 of the 5 trees we put up. Everything goes in their respective bins, those needed to be resorted and culled. I've gotten them done so far, I had to throw away a lot of broken or chipped ornaments. I have a Christmas closet and this year I'm starting with that first.
Once I'm done with Christmas, I'll be following along here. I still have 1 tree, the fireplace mantles and the staircase to do. I'm so over Christmas!
Edited to add my goals. 1. Work on a different organization project every month. 2. Stop holding on to things I think I need. 3. Use what I have, don't bring more in. 4. Be accountable to my goals.

So excited to see the annual decluttering thread lives on! Thank you for starting a new thread styxgirl! I'm definitely in for 2018. Goals for 2018: * Finish going through the last of mom's stuff. Lots of genealogy stuff, photos, old cookbooks, quilt squares, and more. It will be 2 years in April since she passed and time to deal with it all and reclaim my space. Doing this will give me back my office! * Find my guest room again. It's buried under all the stuff that didn't go anywhere else after the remodel (furniture, artwork), as well as a lot of other stuff. It's become a storage room. * Get control of my sewing room once and for all. I have decided this is the year to be ruthless. If I don't love it or have specific plans, then out it goes. Will try to list some of the nicer things, and donate the rest. I want to start sewing clothing again, but with the current condition of that room it is next to impossible. Part of that happening will be passing by all the pretty fabric at the thrift store. I have also begun unsubscribing from fabric store emails. No.more.temptation! * Finish purging and organizing the household papers. A project I worked on a couple of years ago and got about 75% done. Now for the final push to total organization!

This is my goal this year. We moved almost years ago and I purged, but now I’m going to be brutal.
I’m starting with the Christmas stuff as I but it away. My office is the worst. It’s hard to get rid of crafting stuff....you never know when you night need something again.

I'm in! I moved to a very tiny house and at the end of last year started bringing in too much from storage because it felt good to be surrounded by my favorite stuff. I spend more time and energy looking for things or moving things around than actually enjoying the place so it's time to cut back. Big time.
I'm away from home for a bit, but when I return my main projects will be my craft area and then the great room area. I'd like to donate at least a bag or box a week and relocate anything I can't part with to the new storage shed we built in the fall. I expect to be getting rid of a lot of craft materials at the beginning so I can make my little craft area user friendly again.

Mine is to take back my guest room and get my scrap stuff/card making stuff organized/purged. Then to move a much smaller amount (LOL) to my loft and set up a nice planning spot.

I'm in. I've been in my house a little over 2 years now, and the things I haven't found a place for NEED TO GO. But I keep thinking I'll find he perfect spot, so they still sit there lol.
My first area is just that stuff. The stuff that I haven found the place yet. As much as I loved it in my old house (pre-divorce, twice the size house), it doesn't fit here. Once that stuff is gone, I'll feel better. And there is a mystery basket full of crap in the corner of my dining room-I wonder what's in that? I moved it just like that 😂 by the end of January I want his stuff gone...that's the first deadline on myself

I’m in. I have been doing a pretty good job during the last few months. But I need to train the rest of my family to put things where they belong. Any tips on that? Peter Walsh said in his 30 days to get organized, is put signs around saying don't put it down, put it away. My mantra for this month.

In addition to the clothes I went thru yesterday. I also went thru my sock drawer today and threw out anything that was wearing or had holes.

I'm in. I'd like to continue what I've started. I've made it about halfway through the house. I've been getting rid of clutter, but I also need to find logical places for everything. I did that in my master bath, and it cut 10 minutes off my morning routine. I move through it faster and the room ends up neat in the end. My organized makeup drawer and hair product drawer streamline my process.
I'm working on the linen closet and bathroom closet this week.

I'm in. The plan, initially, is to follow Bowl Full of Lemons' Organization Challenge. It begins the 6th, in the kitchen. Already put the boy on notice that I may be asking for his assistance. Plus, there are some things that I want done that my husband is not going to be happy over doing. Tough! I am so tired of this house. We bought it off his Uncle & Aunt over 20 years ago. I am convinced that he is dragging his heels on doing anything to it until all members of that family has passed, because if it was good enough for them, it should be good enough for us. Snoopy forbid he should offend them by changing anything. I still need to find the missing Christmas ornaments. Bought some Lennox ones and have no clue where I put them. There is another type that was on the tree last year that I can't find. They were pricey, even on sale. Christmas decorations went up late this year. So, no hurry to take them down so long as the tree takes water. Gives me time to find the missing ornaments. I recently read a book that was good. It wasn't well written. Kind of choppy. However, the ideas were good. I didn't care for his ideas regarding pictures though. LOL! Clutter Busting Thank you for starting the thread for 2018, styxgirl!
