Hi All....
I have been unemployed for 2.5 months (starting a new job Monday!) and with Christmas, oil bill, etc, we aren't rolling in the dough. We are fine, but don't want to be frivolous with our money.
My soon-to-be 11yo DD's birthday is in 2 weeks and we have decided not to do a birthday party at a venue, and would like to invite a couple friends (2-3) over for the night.
I'm looking for ideas to do with pre-teen girls for the afternoon/ night that would be fun!
Some ideas we've come up with:
-If it's not too cold, we can do sledding in the front yard. -We've got Netflix, so they can watch movies later. -We've got a TON of nail polish, so they could do mani's, but didn't know if that's considered 'old' lol.
Thanks for any ideas you come up with!!

Make an ice cream sundae station and let them make their own.

I think those all sound fun, but since I'm a grandma, what do I know? I was just going to add maybe something to eat that they can each customize for themselves, like making tacos, pizza, or ice cream sundaes at home.

Do you have a friend that has a pasta roller/cutter you could borrow, or do you have one?
We got one a few months ago and everytime DD11 has had a friend over, they made the dough (super easy) then cut and cooked their own pasta - with my supervision. Each girl said they had so much fun doing it.
Good luck!

At that age we were all about the make-overs so the nails and a spa-like atmosphere would have been lots of fun. But I have no idea what age goes for that now, I'm old!

Girls that age seem to like those orbeez things; you can probably order a bag generic ones Amazon for the spa foot baths.
Do you have a Cricut? I watched an 11-year-old over winter break, and she was most excited about making things on my Cricut like cards for her friends.
She was also excited about face painting of all things. Almost like real Snap chat filters. The face paint set I have is from Amazon, and was about $15. She took a ton of selfies as a panda. Her little sister had me paint her face like a YouTuber who had a filter on her.

When I was that age, I loved making beads out of sculpey clay and weaving friendship bracelets. With coupons, a multi-pack of colors of clay would probably be about $5, and only another few dollars for embroidery floss.

My son is 11 and one of his good friends is a girl (her mom is one of my best friends). Manicures/pedicures- spa parties are BIG!
Make manicures more spa-like- get a bag of Epsom salts and let them soak their feet & hands. They can use oil (olive, vegetable) to rub in their hands with sugar to make a scrub (you can find all sorts of recipes online if you want to get fancier or have them make some to take home.) Then add soap, rinse, and lotion. Super soft skin!

We did a spa party for my 10 year old.
They made their own sugar scrubs with coconut oil, sugar and essential oils. They put them in mason jars to take home. I have a paraffin bath, so that was the hit of the party. Seriously, they did that forever. They did their nails and facials with a cheap clay mask I had. Everything cost me $30, including the pizza. That's my kind of party.
They had lots of fun. I soaked washcloths in warm lemon water and stocked the crock pot with them for their facials. I had never seen 10 year old girls so excited for anything than they were for hot lemon towels!

If you are a scrapper, it is my experience that girls that age love making cards or signs.

I love the spa party idea! If you think you need to kill more time, pick up some cheap makeup and let them do their faces first.

I was going to suggest the spa party too.
You could also do cupcake or cookie decorating for not a lot of money with different colors of icing and sprinkles.
Another thing you could do for kids that age if you’re crafty would be a DIY photo booth with props. If they have their own phones they can take photos of each other, you can also use your phone or a tablet with a camera to get instant pics of all the kids together and individually. I did one for my DD’s last party thinking that maybe they would take a few pictures, but that they were probably a little young for it because none of them have phones yet. I was surprised that they had as much fun with it as they did. I would imagine kids that are a little older (and girls in particular) would really get into that if there were some fun props.

We did at home at that age.
For 3-4 girls I’d do board games, movies, pizza and sundaes.
If you want something different than pizza I’d do make your own sushi. You just need the right kind of rice (sticky), you need to dress the rice, cut some veggies for inside, some mayo, get the wraps and rollers and teach the kids how to assemble.

Baking cookies and popping popcorn for snacks during the movies would be fun too.

My daughter and two girlfriends loved doing a Cupcake Wars for her 10th birthday sleepover. It didn't cost much at all; maybe $20 in supplies? They watched an episode of Cupcake Wars. Then I set up a buffet of ingredients and decorations and they spent almost three hours messing around in the kitchen. The mess was severe afterwards. Worth it, though.

Curious what she ended up choosing to do swtpeasmom Awww, thanks so much for asking I think she's decided to bring 2 friends (all that will fit in our vehicle! lol) to the Ice Castles in Lincoln, NH. We've never been and the prices are reasonable when you order on line before hand. Thanks so much for all of your suggestions! I will definitely be saving these for next year
