I’m curious as to who put forth the money to back this movie being produced. Why did they even think the general public would be interested in paying money to see this movie, especially when there was a 2 hr interview on tv last night.

It has also been stated that Nancy and her family thought they were better than most of the other skater's and she was not a nice person to the other girls. So because she wasn't a "nice" person it was ok what happened to her?? Oh and Tonya's 15 mins of fame were over a long time ago. I have no desire to watch what was on last night nor the movie. I by no means am saying that was ok at all. I am just stating what I have seen on television. Finish reading what I said to begin with.

Just to be clear I by NO MEANS condone what was done to Nancy I was only stating what I have seen and heard on television. I DO NOT believe in violence of any kind against anyone.

She'll probably never tell the entire truth. I have to say I'm in awe of Tanya's athletic ability. I have heard that when they were making the movie they had to computer generate her famous jump because they couldn't find anyone who can do it. I was listening to my local sports talk radio station yesterday and they were saying that only two other female skaters have ever completed her triple (I can't remember the technical name). I was impressed w/ her skating at the end of the show! Triple axel.

I watched last night and nothing Tanya said made me change my opinion of her which is pretty negative. Whether she was telling the truth or lying part of the time, I came away feeling that even she doesn't know what the real truth is anymore. The story has a personal connection to me and my community also. The kid who assaulted Nancy was a classmate of my daughter. He attended a going-away party we hosted in my home for a friend of my daughter who was leaving for Europe in a student exchange program. At that time I met him he was friendly, talkative, and a little bit of a show off. He had had a rough home life and was staying with his grandmother who lived here. Naturally, the whole town was shocked to hear he was involved in this mess.

Nancy Kerrigan should not have been attacked. Tonya could have beaten her in technical. No way she should have had her knee bashed in...however,
Nancy Kerrigan was the Queen bitch in the skating world. Uptight, rude, scornful. She was not a nice girl. She had an affair with her married coach who was 25 years her senior. She complained constantly about the press and her scores. She was not well liked.
Do you remember the parade thrown for her at Disney and all she did was whine that she shouldn't have had to be there, it was beneath her..it was stupid..etc.
She wasn't a great skater to begin with. There were many girls better than her. Rumour has it, that Nancy spread nasty stories about competitors she couldn't beat. One being Michelle Kwan. She wasn't a “nice sweet girl”

I am not sure how the skating world is now but when ex-boyfriend's sister was involved, the most major skaters did train together at the same facilities. I am trying to remember who she trained with, I want to say torval and dean ? I am just not sure anymore I do remember the girl was very close to making the Olympic team. Or going to nationals when she had a major breakdown. Their parents spent thousands upon thousands on her skating career. She and her mother lived where the coach lived for years. Boyfriend and his brothers had to fend for themselves, since dad was a social workaholic and a drunk. ( boyfriend said this is why mom and daughter moved...mom didn't want daughter to be around the drunk) . Remember this makes me feel very very old.

Yes, even foreign skaters come here or Canada to train.

Ugh. I’m sorry I missed the interview. I was a huge follower of ice skating back then, and Tonya is local, we were rooting for her. It was so shocking and senseless for the attack to happen. I’m willing to believe tonya was not in on the plotting. I’m sure her goal was to skate her best and win fairly. Not because I think she was an angel, but that’s what a gifted athlete would do. I think the husband hatched the idea because winning was the most important thing to him. Greedy creep is what he was. His actions showed he did not have enough faith in tonya. I also think her poor performance was due to all the negativity surrounding the attack. At this point, she had to know her husband was behind it, imagine all that in your head when you’re faced with such an important, stressful performance. With the whole world watching, most of them hating you , all of the skating community loathing you. Your own husband giving you the ultimate and nastiest vote of no confidence ever. I’m not really a fan of Tonya’s, and I know I come across as an apologist for her. But the truth is, I know the kind of people she came from, and married into. I can see how this all played out. Ironically, none of the participants in this play were my favorite skaters. I admired Tonya’s athleticism very much, and her performances were filled with a spark, and a joy, but lacked artistry. I found Nancy to be stolid, and joyless and dull, and lacked exciting jumps. It was like watching a statue skating. And she was a snobby, unpleasant person. It showed in many commments and facial expressions. Oksana was a darling little sprite and her jumps were quick and light. It was like watching a firefly skate. It was ok, but there was no substance to it.

I know someone from another message board who competed against Nancy. She says everyone disliked her in the extreme and that she is a most unpleasant person.

I'm a Dorothy Hamill girl and believe me there was the same kind of unsportsmanlike rivalry then as there was in the 90s and probably continues to this day. It's a dangerous sport on many levels. Lots of drama and sabotage and yes, stage mothers who browbeat their girls and take all the fun out of it. I guess at that level it all just comes with the territory. We considered watching the documentary then decided to pop in Ice Princess instead one of our all-time favorites. What is the I, Tonya movie I've seen advertised recently? Margot Robbie is too old for the part of Tonya. No matter how good she is! (And she's getting "rave reviews") Like some of you, I also forgot to record the doc and it's probably just as well.

I think the interview is showing again on Sunday, 1/21. So you may be able to see it.
Back in the mid 90s I worked with Nancy on a part of her wedding. She was a demanding snot. Not all brides were like that! Her “ice queen” reputation was well earned, in my opinion. But that still didn’t excuse anyone from hurting or plotting to hurt her.

I watched the interview. I found it very entertaining. I’d much prefer to watch an hour long interview with Tonya Harding than Nancy Kerrigan. She’s kind of a loose cannon, but seems to embrace it.

I wish someone would make a movie about Debi Thomas and get her some help.

It would have been interesting to hear from Tanya's coaches back then, especially the first one. I googled her and it looks like she is still alive.
Nancy Kerrigan married her agent, not her coach.

The Talk has been discussing this topic quite a bit. They have showed clips were Nancy was caught on tape not being a very nice person. I remember back watching Nancy and Tonya skating and Nancy was artistic and Tonya was the technical skater. And back then the commentators said Tonya did not get the credit she deserved as a skater. It has also been stated that Nancy and her family thought they were better than most of the other skater's and she was not a nice person to the other girls. I don't think she deserved being hurt and should be apologized too. But there are 2 sides to every story. It feels like victim blaming there aren't two sides... even if Nancy Kerrigan was a raving bitch.. rude and disrespectful to everyone. She was a victim and didn't deserve what happened to her. She may not be the perfect person that she was made out to be..who is.. but her side is she was the victim of a crime.

She said all the seniors were divas.

This thread made me go check out what Elvis Stojko and Kurt Browning looked like now. Can't believe they are 45 and 51 now. I miss figure skating living in the south. I miss winter sports in general moving here from Canada.

I haven't watched it. She lives in my area though, so Tonya sightings are possible. I kind of feel bad, I know she isn't 100% innocent but it happened a long time ago. I hope I never do anything dumb that is still making news over two decades later.
yeah but part of it, anyway, is Tonya's fault. If she would quit talking about it, giving interviews, etc, it would die down. SaveSave

SaveSaveActually, Tonya herself has never really talked about it much, from what I've witnessed. At the moment, she's lost her long-time agent because of her demand that reporters NOT ask her about it. She wants them to sign an affidavit that they will not ask her anything about the past or be fined $25,000 if they do. I truly think she'd love nothing more than for that incident to be dead and buried, but of course it never will be.

No interest in anything Tonya Harding. She was a skank then and she's a skank now. No class whatsoever.
