Have you listened to the Dirty John podcast? It was really good. Dateline is covering the Dirty John Podcast tonight. I can't wait to put faces to the story. Jen

I listened to Dirty John and had to Google while listening because I had this need to know what all of the people looked like. I have a cousin named Debra Newell.

I listened but honestly I was so mad that the mom put her kids in the situation where her daughter was almost killed I don't know if I can watch Dateline.

I may have to record that one. I just listened the DJ podcast last week while taking all the Christmas stuff down. I couldn't believe that Debra did what she did after all she knew. I'm not sure how her daughter that got hurt (trying to be vague here, to not spoil it) could forgive her mom easily, or how the mom could forgive herself.

That podcast went with me on a lot of runs! It was so crazy, I was almost sure it was fiction. We don't have cable, so I'll have to figure out a way to watch this later.

I missed the ending. What did he do to her daughter? Is he in prison now? Is the other daughter dead? She didn’t do any of the interviews,

annabella He's dead. He attacked the daughter with a knife. She fought back & got ahold of the knife & turned it on him. Stabbed him in the head and in the eye. He died 4 days later. She's fine, physically but suffers from PTSD.

This Dateline so far has made my opinion of Debra sink even lower. I am on the West coast so I have one more hour until it starts. It’s hard to get past her involvement in all of this. She is successful, beautiful and wealthy. You would think she would have known better.

I am surprised that someone so successful in business could be duped so easily. Even when faced with proof positive from the PI, she still refused to believe her daughters. Worse yet, she told Dirty John, putting her daughters in even bigger danger. That was some seriously stupid behavior and she's lucky that things turned out the way they did. Her daughter is awesome, feisty and beautiful: I hope she will be able to put this behind her.

I hadnt heard of Dirty John before last night's Dateline. During the show, reading between the lines, I got the impression the mom and daughters dont have much of a relationship today. There was no video of them together present day - all were filmed seperately. The mother spoke in a very distant and removed manner after was all said and done.
The only 'wrap-up, come full-circle' moments Dateline did were to take Tara to the scene of the attack. There were no 'and here are Tara and her mother together now' scenes.

I was so mad and her by the end of the podcast. I know that love makes people tolerate stuff they normally wouldn't and impairs judgement...but truly, she's an idiot . I don't think I could continue to have a relationship if she was my mother.

I couldn't put my finger on it but thats what was missing....you would think that maybe there would be some trauma bonding. There was nothing. I felt bad that Terra felt like she needed to apologize for what happened. Debra seemed like if she was given the chance she would have forgiven him. Not a nice woman IMO.

That mother was a hundred ways a creep, that is why she attracted a creep. The first clue is she married him after two months when everyone made their feelings known about him. I know that occasionally quick marriages work but no one with a brain marries a stranger that they have only known for eight weeks when everyone in their life is telling them the guy is bad news. Only very stupid, self absorbed women do that.
My husband insisted that we watch the rest of it but I was done after she married him. I hope the daughter stays far, far away from that bitch.

I had never heard of this case until Dateline did the show. We watched this afternoon. I thought that he must have killed oldest daughter since there were no photos of her, nor interviews etc. Apparently that daughter is done with her mother. Perhaps the mother had been self absorbed all her life and this was the final blow for the daughters.
Mother: Odd detachment--no emotion about "he almost killed my daughter. He probably would have killed me." The show blamed PTSD for the lack of emotion on the girl who was featured and attacked.

In the fight for her life, she stabbed him in the eye and he died 4 days later. The show never told what daughter #1 is doing, or why she was not shown in the show nor interviewed. I can only guess daughter #1 just wants to erase all this from her memory and not be associated with mother. I would have thought she was still friendly with the daughter who was attacked--but that is unclear.
