My dd is graduating high school at the end of May and I’d like to take her somewhere to celebrate. We’d like to go somewhere that suits us both. Neither of us want a cruise or a beach type vacation.
On our list so far... Niagra Falls or San Fransisco
we like to sightsee and do touristy things. She doesnt like museums, hiking or amusement parks (dh is taking her twin hiking in Bryce Canyon, then to CA to ride roller coasters) but does like shopping! I dont want to spend a vacation shopping though.
We’ve been to New York, Seattle, Chicago, Denver, Los Angeles, New Mexico and Orlando and she doesn't want to revisit any of those places.
So if you live somewhere awesome or have visited somewhere you think we should see too, please share.

Nashville Memphis Austin San Francisco
What about Branson? I know you don’t want to spend it all shopping, but could do some and then do other things?

Yellowstone is my favorite place I've ever been! I'm not a camper/hiker, yet I still saw lots of wildlife and beautiful scenery from the vehicle. Depending on exactly when you'd be going, there may be lots of babies being born.

Skip Niagara unless you can do the Canadian side. I would second Mackinac Island/Traverse City area. Beautiful area.

I don't think Niagara sounds like her jam compared to San Francisco.
San Francisco is a great city to explore for 4-5 days.

Austin, TX. A little shopping, a little night life, a little history, some great food, other fun things to do within a couple of hours' drive.

As much as I'm sick of visiting there, what about Gatlinburg, TN? It's got a good mix of nature (driving trails and walking trails), shopping (outlets in nearby Pigeon Forge), and pretty much anything else you could imagine (except beaches). The only thing is that a car is a requirement so if it's not within driving distance you'd have to rent a car.

I re-read the OP and see that you didn't list Washington DC as a place that she's been. Depending on the "touristy" things you like, I think it's worth considering.

Ashville, NC. You could visit The Biltmore and take a segway tour there. And drive the Blue Ridge Parkway. Outstanding beauty in this part of the USA, and the weather should be ideal.

Great ideas! Keep them coming please. We have a family trip planned for the summer to bike around Traverse City and to Mackinac Island so yay that that is a great place to go. Looking forward to that. She went to DC for her 8th grade trip but I’ll ask if she wants to go back. We could definitely go to the Canadian side at Niagre, littlemama. What makes that better? Anything else to do there? Austin sounds like a great idea, too. And we have family in Dallas, whom Id love to see again.

The american side of Niagara Falls is kind of ugly, not much to do or see there except look at the wrong side of the falls
all the touristy stuff is on the Canadian side

He is 18 so its possible she will want to go back. SaveSave

Minneapolis/St. Paul? There are quite a few music festivals in the Twin Cities around June, the Minnesota Arboretum is gorgeous, and there's the Mall of America for your daughter to get her shopping fix (Many people don't find the MOA to be anything special, but it is kinda cool if you've never been there before and love shopping).

I have wanted to visit Quebec City in Canada. European flavor without the time and expense of Europe.

I'd love to visit San Francisco. I think that'd make a memorable trip. Is Vegas out? We've seen some amazing shows and enjoyed some great dinners there!

THANK YOU, THANK YOU!! Lots of great ideas, some of which we would never have considered. Older DD went to Vanderbilt in Nashville so I was just saying how nice it would be to go back and see it again. We live near Chicago so have been to Minneapolis more than a few times, MOA is our annual clothes shopping destination. LOL PrettyInPeank we are coming from Chicago and can drive or fly.

Toronto is a great city. You can fly to Toronto and explore then hop on the GO train to Niagara Falls which is about 1.5 hr away.

I forgot to add in my post about Ashville, NC. Stay at the Biltmore Inn. It is a beautiful hotel--more of a spa feeling than a normal hotel. And the service there is truly outstanding. We were there last September for my 80th Birthday Bash, and had a private Segway tour. It was soooo much fun.
