So I finally got around to using this last night. I let my nails dry for what I thought wAs long enough but woke up with sheet marks on my nails. Can I use a fast dry coat on top of this? Or will that make it wear differently? How long do you usually let it dry? Thanks!

That’s odd- I find my nails dry quicker than normal with this. I wouldn’t use another layer - maybe a spray though?

Did you use the Gel Couture top coat - in the white bottle? That's the key I've found - you have to use both steps.

Hmmmm....I've never used a base coat - it says you don't need it. Maybe that extra layer was keeping the polish from adhering to your nails?

I'm sorry, I think I've been talking about a different thing - I was thinking you were asking about Essie Gel Setter which is 'just' a top coat ('with gel-like qualities') but isn't part of a system, like the Couture Range. Ignore me

I've used sprays on it, and I *think* I've also tried a quick dry top coat, both with no problem. One thing I've read about these semi-gel nail polishes is that they don't truly set 100% until they've been in sunlight (or other UV light).* So you might want to try using them only during the day if you don't want to mess with a spray.
*They will dry to the touch, and mostly set, just not that little last bit.

I don't use a base coat, just two coats of color then the Essie clear coat in the white bottle. I do find that I need to almost dry the polish in between coats. I have a little fan that I turn on and blow my nails between coats. You might try putting another coat of clear and see if that will make the sheet marks disappear.

Read the directions. The Essie Gel Couture is a two-step system. Two coats of color and a coat of clear. They chemically bond. In my experience, it dries very quickly. I love it.
I think using a base coat may have had a negative effect on the drying.

Yes you can put SV over the other tc. Not after it's fully dry though, that will cause shrinkage or lifting.

I also don’t use a base coat. Two coats of color and then the top coat.

I have used it with base coats with no problem, but it might just be the luck of the base coats I've used.

I just polished my nails again and I think I may have used the base coat a second time instead of the gel top coat when I painted them the other day. I remember thinking the brush was thinner than I thought it would be. Hopefully tonight’s manicure will turn out better! I did one hand with the base coat and one without.
