Ok I just got another alert calling it a false alarm. That was not funny at all.
There has been a ballistic missile warning issued to Hawaii just now. It came through on my phone and we are told to seek immediate shelter. This is not a drill. What are we supposed to do and where are we supposed to go? Help?
Your paradise is just as I remembered it. It is amazing here.

Hawaii News Now says: There is no ballistic missile threat to Hawaii. The alert was sent to phones in error, state confirms.

Hello, OP. I had the same thing and It freaked me out too. Turn on CNN, it is being reported as a mistake. Be safe!
ETA: we were on the plane last evening with a very senior navy officer returning to base and he was talking about the testing of the warning system late last year. Having a slow start this morning and the TV started playing the warning. It was bizarre.

Thank god!!! I mean there is no shelter anywhere and the evacuation area is difficult to get at during the best of times.

How scary! Obviously, so happy it was a false alarm, but I can't imagine the panic it caused everyone.
OMG, I just saw that it took 38 minutes to get the word out that it was a false alarm. That is a long time!!!

Thank god!!! I mean there is no shelter anywhere and the evacuation area is difficult to get at during the best of times. We are in a rented high rise, huge sliding doors and windows. The alert told us to stay away from the windows, lie down on the floor. As a tourist, I would not have known where to start looking for a shelter! Two other weird things- the planes were still taking off, I counted at least four, traffic down in the street stopped almost completely on the one side, the other street seemed "normal". Bizarre. Waving, hope the rest of your vacay is stunning in a good way.

That is a long time!!! i know right? I have Amber alerts and emergency alerts turn on and this is the first time I have ever seen anything. I also know there is tension right now and when your phone starts screaming at you you freak out

I feel very fortunate to be able to share it with the people who live here. Ahhhh. It’s 9 am and 22 degrees. It’s 7 degrees and pouring rain at home. Hawaii for the win!

We are in Kona and very close to the water. The air smells like flowers and warmth. I just love it here. If you are on Oahu go to the Bishop Museum. It is fabulous. Skip the planetarium but do see the volcano exhibit. It’s very loud! We didn’t bother with the animation exhibit as I hate anime. We took a taxi to the museum and then the city bus back. It stops on Kuhio on the canal side of the International Market and we just walked through to our hotel. The bus comes every 10 maybe and it’s $2.75 to take it. It’s very easy. We went to Ala Moana but it was a miss. I liked shopping in Waikiki better and even then I only went to a couple of stores. There is a Japanese restaurant on the top of the market and it looks bad. The pizza place is loud but great. The Japanese market sells these cool face masks. You might need them. I am just saying..,

I felt so powerless this afternoon. Half of my family being woken up sending messages to us that might have been the last time we "talked". I have been worrying about this since the election and if one more fucking person tells me I'm overreacting, that it won't be "that bad" or it couldn't be worse than Obama.... you can fuck off.

Thank you for the recommendations! We are indeed in Waikiki; we are on our first visit and accepted advice to start here.

We aren’t swimmers as I hate cold water but we took a trolley tour (free) and it was great. We went to Diamond Head and all around that was fun.
One day we went to the North Shore. The surf is spectacular there. We rented a car for the day and drove there. We brought our GPS with us and needed it. It is tricky to get on the freeway. The drive there was painless and the scenery is beautiful. We stopped for coffee and a walk around this property at the shops. That was nice.
I am not a fan of the Polynesian Cultural Centre is so so. I wouldn’t go again having been once as a child and with Bff a few years ago. I am not sure if you can use the Disney property or not. I don’t like Disney so it was a miss for us.
Sephora in Waikiki is wonderful and has better selection than Ala Moana. I am just saying/warning you. It is a lot of fun! They are also very helpful and are quick to give you samples because they know you’ll be back the next day (yeah).
We had one meal at PF Chiang’s and it was very good! I was pleasantly surprised. I thought the food was great. Better than the Chinese food we get at home by a long shot.

We loved the food at PF Chang's in Long Beach- we ate mainly at the Restaurants on the Queen Mary but accepted a recommendation to try their food.

I can't even begin to imagine the fear. Those would have been very difficult minutes, not knowing what was coming. So glad it was not an attack however I'm sure the stress and strain will remain.

It was a drill. Tulsi Gabbatd confirmed. It was an error, not a drill. Big difference IMO.
