My son has discovered youtube videos with the theme of balls (don't think dirty!). Sammie the golden retriever jumping into a pool of plastic balls seems to be a favorite. He's also found these videos of children's songs with odd animation. Think Japanese game show version of children's educational clips. He's also into TV theme songs. He's non verbal but uses the ipad for communication with another app, so I think he could learn to use something. Is there other apps that work better than the youtube one?

Have you looked into YouTube Kids? I don’t know much about it but it is geared towards kids.
And what is it about the regular YouTube app you don’t like? I think you can put controls on it, or you can subscribe to channels you want your child to watch and have those pop up automatically.

It was just there and he hasn't used it much until recently. I'll have to take a closer look. I'll take a look at the youtube kids app too. I guess I want to make it easy for him to choose the videos he's watched over and over.

refugeepea This may take a little work on your part, but on YouTube you can put videos in a “favorite” list and then all the videos he watches all the time will be in one spot.

If you access YouTube through your browser rather than the app, I think you can create home screen icons that link to each individual video. I’m not explaining it very well! Google “Create iPad shortcuts”. Hope that helps.

Something similar to your suggestion, but you can use history to see what he's been watching, then add those to a playlist which he can play continuously or skip through.
