No. They are a PITA to vacuum/clean. The main reason i got hardwoods was to lessen allergens/dirt in my home, so there is no way I was bringing something in on top of them that would negate that reason.

We have hardwoods throughout our home, except for tile in the laundry room, mudroom, & bathrooms. All rooms - home office/study, formal dining, kitchen, breakfast nook, family, all bedrooms, craft room, playroom, & gameroom - have area rugs. HTH

Hardwood in living room, family room, bedroom and halls with area rugs in all except the halls. I actually threw the living room one out last week and was going to do without. Then my mini schnauzer couldn't get a good enough grip on the hardwood and fell three times within two days trying to get up on the couch to snuggle so I went out and bought a small area rug. Anything for the spoiled girl.

We have are at rugs in the family room and the formal living room (which is really where my kids play and the piano is), but not in the dining room. We also have a rug inside the back door because my kids kept tracking water/mud in. Our hardwoods are shot to...well, you know...the house was a rental and there was a leak at the sink that warped the boards (have a cushy rubber rug there, too) so the hardwoods would certainly not be the selling point for anyone. Once our kids are a little older, we may replace them, but for now, it's rugs for us.

We have hardwoods in our living room, dining room, hallway and stairs. There are rugs on all, and I HATE them!! They have an odor to them that has been there since right after we bought them. It has gotten worse even though I have had them professionally cleaned several times. Sometimes in the summer, the smell is so bad that we can hardly stand to be in the living room. I would take them up, but I have no place to store the 13x9 rug from the living room, and my dh won't let me get rid of them when they cost so much.

We have wood in our den, and have a small rug - but it really only goes under our coffee table. It fills in the space bordered by our sofa, loveseat and fireplace. So most of the room really doesn't have a rug.

Yes in the dining room and no in the family room although I would have one if I had my choice. Right now, it's more convenient to not have a rug in our family room - think crushed goldfish everywhere. Much easier to keep clean without. When our kids were younger, we went with naked floors for just that reason. We have an area rug now. And we still have goldfish crumbs. But we deal with it.

We just put in hardwood floors on two levels. Hubby wasn't keen on them, so I put large rugs in the rooms. Glad I did. The dogs are having a bit of a hard time adjusting and when they go postal after each other one or the other forgets and can end up skidding. Think Scooby Doo being chased by a villain. My favorite is when they run after each other but slow down for the wood parts and then speed up again. Lots of entertainment. Several flooring people mentioned all wood floors is hard on the dogs' joints. I can see that being a problem.

My whole first floor is hardwood, and I have area rugs in every room. I love them! They add color and warmth, and aren't so expensive that you can't change them out every few years. LOVE my hardwood floors. I can't believe that I had them covered with wall to wall carpet for so many years. Area rugs are so much fun and they have a wide choice of color and pattern and are easily changed. I have winter and summer rugs and I change them.
