Yea yea, I know there are plenty of haters of Vday. Hallmark holiday (not!) but just wondering if anyone is doing anything this yr? It's tricky because it's smack in the middle of the week. I think I'm going to do a nice steak and baked potatoes, salad. We usually just exchange cards, and nice dinner. Just me and the dh this yr. Both my girls are moved out now and on their own!

We had a fancy schmancy reservation yesterday but had a virus instead.
I have a giant box of cookies set up to be delivered to him to work Wednesday and I'm going to make steak & baked potatoes here Wed night. Thursday he has something planned but I"m not sure what.

Seafood for us. He's off which never happens on any type of special day so I'm excited.

Most likely a family steak & lobster dinner will be happening here. I made conversation heart mini cheesecakes a couple of years ago and might do some again this year since I have a heart shaped silicon pan that never gets used.

I am thinking mock chicken legs. Or pasties.
We won't go out because the flu is really bad here.

I'm having my daughters over tomorrow night for fancy food and movie night. No boys allowed. Tonight some girlfriends and I are going to a "Bang" exercise class followed by cocktails. No idea what "Bang" is, but it'll be fun to get together.
DH and I? Nada. After too many V-Days being rushed out of restaurants and their fixed price menus they trot out for holidays, we generally roast a chicken with veggies, buy a fancy dessert at Wegmans and then sit down to buy each other concert tickets for later in the year.

We missed our church Sweetheart Banquet on Saturday night due to both of us being sick, so I'll make him his chocolate covered strawberries that I make him every year, and call it a done deal! Not sure he'll get out at all. He's sick now!!

DH will be in London for work, so nothing doing here. Not that we usually do much - after 35 years together, we've been there, done that, and don't want to deal with overpriced 'special' menus, flowers and chocolates. If we were both going to be home, I'd make more effort with dinner - nice fish, because as someone else said, it's Ash Wednesday and probably no dessert, for the same reason.

Only sort of...I'll be taking an exam early in the day and will probably need a glass of wine once I see my score.
But I have two heart-shaped deep dish Chicago pizzas from Giordano's on their way to me in PA via FedEx, and a box of Fannie May mint meltaways in a Wrigley Field tin, so dinner at least will be great!

Nothing here. I go back and forth on whether or not I want to do anything for Valentine's Day. Luckily for dh, I give him plenty of notice. He'll comply with pretty much whatever I ask, except for making dinner reservations. For some reason he'll skip the reservations and think we can just show up somewhere and get a table. @@
This year I just want to be home. Too much going on for me to have the energy to do a nice night out.

No plans for going out - but will most likely do steak + potatoes at home. Might stop at the bakery and get a good dessert or some chocolate covered strawberries.

DH & I haven't done anything for Valentine's Day for years (despite it being the day we got engaged over 20 years ago!). This year I'll be busy making money...delivering flowers for my neighbor's flower shop!

My boyfriend mentioned he’d like to go out to eat so we picked a (hopefully) low key vegan restaurant in Chinatown. We’re thinking of stopping by the Musuem of Fine Arts on the way home. Sort of just a normal night but it should be fun. 🙂

My husband’s birthday is the week after Valentine’s Day so we avoid the restaurant crowds by going out then instead. We usually make a nice dinner together and exchange cards. Sometimes he surprises me with flowers at the office.
I think this year we are going to have my favorite - salmon with lemon butter pasta topped with arugula and capers.

But I have two heart-shaped deep dish Chicago pizzas from Giordano's on their way to me in PA via FedEx, and a box of Fannie May mint meltaways in a Wrigley Field tin, so dinner at least will be great! That's an AWESOME way to celebrate. Have you tried Lou Malnati's pizza?

That's an AWESOME way to celebrate. Have you tried Lou Malnati's pizza? Yes, I used to live there and Malnati's was my grandpa's favorite. But the last few times I tried both, I actually preferred Giordano's, and they'll ship to me in PA. Are you familiar with Quad-City style pizza? That's actually where I'm from and it's spreading. Harris/Frank's are king in the QC. There is a place in Chicago called Roots that does QC style. I like to go there when I'm back visiting, if I can't make it to the QC for some Harris pizza.

My husband is really into Valentine's Day so I made all these plans. Then I discovered that it's also Ash Wednesday ssoooo change of plans. lol
Because of the Ash Wednesday thing I took him out for dinner this Saturday to celebrate. We went to his favourite place, Texas De Brazil. I wasn't able to eat much. But what I did have, the lamb (OMG), was excellent. I highly recommend trying it if you've never been.
As for the day itself. We'll go to church together, before he leaves for work, for our ashes. He'll either send or bring me flowers. I'll put a silly love note/card in his lunchbox. I'm sending him a cookie bouquet (for him) and an edible arrangement (for the office).
We'll have a nice seafood dinner. We'll exchange cards and small gifts. After dinner we'll snuggle on the couch to watch a movie and he'll bring out a box of my favourite chocolates, he'll eat most of them. lol
Both my mum and sister usually send me a little something. I send them each a little treat as well. At some point in the day I'll call each of them and we'll open our stuff and chat for a bit.

I asked for some fresh flowers and we'll exchange cards. Thanks everybody for the reminder about it being Ash Wednesday. Will probably make a shrimp dish, most likely Skinnytaste's Bangin Good Shrimp.

Completely off topic but have you tried the Alpine Spice wine that's local to this area? If not run don't walk to your nearest state store lol. I found it when we went the a wine festival last year and I've been hooked!
