Thanks Elaine!! I've looked at some places Ps have suggested, and everyone else must make MUCH more money they we do. Because there is no way in heck my dh would let me pay 300$+ for a room. yes, we could do something cheaper, and be off the ocean, but dang! I want ocean. ha If you check VRBO for Sundial in Sanibel for early May you'll find prices less than $200/night with Gulf views. SaveSave

Here's a link to a one bedroom condo in Sanibel that is less than $1000 for the week. It is not gulf front, but it's such a short walk to get to the beach. If you are willing to pay a few hundred more you can find a gulf view, but they are likely to be two bedroom places. Sundial condo

only one person on this thread recommended anything on the west coast
why does everyone head east or south
i grew up in san diego - i guess that's what i compare all beaches too
my vote will always be either pacific beach in san diego or la jolla beaches
much different vibe than either the gulf or the east coast
i was completely shocked the first time i went to south carolina and saw all the high rise hotels and roped off sections of beach
my vote will always be - head west

The one that I posted the facebook link to on page 1 - the sister condo is the one we stayed in at Christmas. It was directly on the ocean. The one we stayed in shows at $200/night during your timeframe. However if you connect with the owner directly through the facebook link, the rates are cheaper - especially if you can pick up a stay between other guests to fill in space. Here is the VRBO listing for the one we stayed in. I'm not sure where you are coming from, but you can often get good flight rates into Orlando. You would want a car. You can walk to a Publix easily from this condo. www.vrbo.com/813752#ratesAnchor
