Mueller's team has a permanent security clearanceBY BRANDON CARTER - 02/14/18 09:18 PM EST Former US Attorney Preet Bharara trolled the White House in a tweet Wednesday after it was reported that more than a hundred of President Trump’s staffers worked without permanent security clearances as recently as November. “You know who has permanent security clearances? Every member of special counsel [Robert] Mueller's team,” Bharara tweeted. You know who has permanent security clearances? Every member of special counsel Mueller's team. t.co/RIjCAHlq05— Preet Bharara (@preetbharara) February 15, 2018 Mueller’s team of investigators, comprised of former prosecutors and Justice Department officials, is investigating potential ties between Trump and Russia. CNN reported Wednesday that numerous top officials in Trump’s White House, including his daughter and senior adviser Ivanka Trump, son-in-law and senior adviser Jared Kushner and former staff secretary Rob Porter were three of more than 100 White House staffers that still had an interim security clearance in November, a year after Trump’s election. You want scary?"Porter is a symptom of the disease of Trumpism, a toxic plague of misogyny, disloyalty, and deceit that not only shatters ethical norms but leaves U.S. national security in chronic jeopardy. The reason the U.S. has traditionally had a rigorous security clearance process is to prevent bad actors like Manafort (or Flynn, or Gorka, or Bannon) from accessing classified information and jeopardizing public safety. Notwithstanding what some have called serious problems with the clearance process—some 700,000 people are waiting to have clearances processed, according to a report issued last week by the U.S. Comptroller’s office—the process has been virtually abandoned in Trump’s White House, leaving us with what appears to be a wandering coterie of rapacious rejects who consider U.S. sovereignty a salable good.... For over a year, members of Congress have been asking why Jared Kushner—a key figure in the Russian interference probe as well as a struggling businessman with multiple conflicts of interest abroad—has been allowed access to classified information, particularly after it was revealed he had given false information on his security clearance form at an unprecedented level last year. After Kushner lied about or omitted over 100 foreign contacts, Charles Phalen, the head of the government bureau responsible for clearing background checks, told lawmakers, “I have never seen that level of mistakes.” Ivanka Trump, who like Jared works in a vague advisory role that gives her access to classified information, has faced similar inquiries over security form improprieties. Still, despite Ivanka and Jared having been recognized as a potential internal security risk for an entire year, nothing has been done to revoke their access. (Or, for that matter, that of Attorney General Jeff Sessions, another protocol breaker on his security clearance form.) Nothing has been done to penalize Trump for his breaches of security either, and nothing has, so far, been done to punish White House officials—like Chief of Staff John Kelly—who covered up breaches by Porter and possibly other staffers." www.fastcompany.com/40531098/why-former-trump-staffers-may-be-walking-security-threats

“To state the obvious, saying "don't politicize tragedy" is usually a political tactic. Especially on guns, where the majority of Americans are for more gun control but the minority is more intense and better-organized.”
I think he’s right, especially the last part.

”It’s a horrific, horrific, horrible shooting” that we keep letting happen over and over and over again.
I’m curious how many more people need to be killed with AR-15 rifles, that you can pick up at your local gun store, before you have enough facts and realize maybe AR-15 rifles shouldn’t be allowed on the streets of the United States? Last time I looked out my door we weren’t in a war zone. So why are these guns even sold in this country? Who is the enemy? A bunch of frightened teen age kids?
After Sandy Hook a British writer made the comment. “The United States’s biggest threat isn’t terrorism but that the United States is fighting itself”.
And all these years later it’s clear we are losing that fight.

Rep. Jim Jordan on Fox News when asked about gun control: "Whenever we have one of these tragedies take place, there are always folks who want to infringe on fundamental liberties that we as Americans enjoy."
“Jordan adds: "We've got an endless number of gun control laws and regulations currently on the books," and "the second amendment is right next to the first because it's pretty darn important."
This is why we are screwed.

They say, it's "too soon" for this horrific shooting, but what about Las Vegas's? We can never get enough of a time span to talk about it, when it happens EVERY OTHER DAY!!! It is always too soon BECAUSE IT HAPPENS DAMN NEAR EVERY DAY! I am so sick and tired of it’s too soon, we have to pray and cry now (which solves absolutely NOTHING), and we’ll talk about this ata more appropriate time. But that time never comes because IT HAPPENS ALL THE TIME HERE!!! It’s like how tomorrow never comes: "Tomorrow never comes" is a general truth: no tomorrow ever comes, because when it does come it's today. "

Oh I don’t know. I suspect if military type weapons were banned it would go a long way in cutting down the carnage at these events.
Unless GOP lawmakers have something note worthy to say other than offering their prayers and “we shouldn’t jump to conclusions” they really should keep their goddamn mouths shut. Oops I just swore. Oh how terrible! But at least I didn’t kill anybody with my “goddamn”.

“Exclusive: Trump to focus counter-extremism program solely on Islam - sources”
“Reuters) - The Trump administration wants to revamp and rename a U.S. government program designed to counter all violent ideologies so that it focuses solely on Islamist extremism, five people briefed on the matter told Reuters.
The program, "Countering Violent Extremism," or CVE, would be changed to "Countering Islamic Extremism" or "Countering Radical Islamic Extremism," the sources said, and would no longer target groups such as white supremacists who have also carried out bombings and shootings in the United States.”
Of course he did, he can’t have law enforcement check out/study some of his supporters now can he.

Trump budget would cut millions in school safety funds: reportBY BRANDON CARTER - 02/15/18 04:18 PM EST President Trump’s proposed 2019 budget would cut millions of dollars from federal education programs designed to help school districts improve safety and provide mental health assistance in the event of a tragedy. The budget proposal, which was unveiled earlier this week by the White House, would reduce funding for national school safety activities by $25 million compared to 2017, Politico reported. That reduction would include the elimination of “project prevention grants,” which have helped schools across the country fund conflict resolution programs, prevent bullying and pay for mental health assistance for students. ** "Later this month, I will be meeting with the nation’s governors and attorney generals, where making our schools and our children safer will be our top priority," Trump said. "It is not enough to simply take actions that make us feel like we are making a difference. We must actually make that difference," he added.More at link: thehill.com/homenews/administration/374103-trump-budget-would-cut-millions-in-school-safety-funds-reportWhat about our children?

Watchdog: IRS issued bonuses to employees with conduct issuesBY NAOMI JAGODA - 02/15/18 04:44 PM EST The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) issued more than $1.7 million in awards in fiscal 2016 and early fiscal 2017 to employees who had been disciplined by the agency, a Treasury Department watchdog said. "Some of these employees had serious misconduct, such as unauthorized access to tax return information, substance abuse and sexual misconduct," the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration (TIGTA) said in a report made public this week. The IRS has a program to reward high-performing employees with cash bonuses, time off and other awards. Trump attorney stating that he personally paid the porn star $130,000 and neither Trump nor his campaign paid him back. Actually, the statement was that neither the Trump ORGANIZATION nor the Trump Campaign paid him back. There's every possibility Donald Trump, personally, or one of the other Trumps, reimbursed Cohen.

2. I don’t care how long this parade is $10M- $30M can be put to better use than a stupid parade. And that is ONLY an estimate and we know how those go.............. Put it into School Safety funding dt wants cut out of the budget! Or food, rent, roads/railroads, health care all kinds of things that are NEEDED!

Simple.
1. Make registered gun owners responsible for the actions of their guns.
2. Have a National Data Base to track all guns from the time they are mfg until they are destroyed.
3. Ban all military type weapons.
4. Require background checks for all gun sales. That includes private gun sales.
5. Anyone who has any type of mental illness, domestic violence charges and are on the terrorist watch list or the no fly list absolutely cannot buy any guns.
I think if these changes are implemented there will be less guns available to those who want to commit a crime.

I'd like to add much tougher restrictions and fines if you are caught breaking any gun laws to include the possibility of having to surrender your weapon, and losing the ability to purchase in the future depending on the infraction. Reasonable limit on numer of guns allowed to own. Same with ammunition. Limit amount can purchase at one time. Much stricter license requirements as far as training required and renewing your license. Laws on how guns should be safely stored in a home with minors (or those with mental illness) and in a car.
