We were never blessed with children, so it is not something I paid a lot of attention to. All I know is there was controversy and some kids were not getting enough to eat. But if they needed more, couldn't they supplement from home? The uproar was mostly over moving toward healthier alternatives in school lunches. There's some talk about it upthread if you're interested. It became a conservative talking point to complain about Big Brother forcing schools to serve healthy food that kids didn't want to eat. I'm happy if you were not among that contingent. I never understood the big brother commentary as it was already a government program. I do think there was some legitimate feedback regarding making adjustments to the strict calories restrictions especially for for athletes who were also at the peak of their growth. Having seen what my son puts down, I feel for those high school athletes that were relying on the school lunch - I could see them being hungry.

This makes me sick. Taking food away from poor people to give cash back to rich people who have more money than they know what to do with, and that, generally speaking, they earned off the backs of those same poor people to begin with. The new feudalism. The problem at the moment is that the articles that I read said box and the other half in EBT card, but this is saying box and nothing more?? BTW: I did not get SNAP but I do know people who do. Many years ago I did the 5# block of cheese, butter and powered milk...

No. Your article says this: They'd be losing half of the held-back funds (the held-back funds would only be a portion of their full amount). The other half goes to pay for the box. But they would still get their remaining amount of SNAP benefits in EBT form. Apparently this administration, in its wisdom, thinks it can provide the full amount of canned food for half of its retail value, and will pocket the rest while theoretically providing equal value. I'm not betting on it, and I believe there's all kinds of things wrong with this idea.
