Read Morgan Rice's Arena One (always on the "If you liked Hunger Games, read this" lists) and gave up and skimmed the last half. It was unbelievably ridiculous.
Reading Ken Follett's Fall of Giants now, it's sucked me in already. Pillars of the Earth was great. Long, but great. Looking forward to this epic trilogy.

I read my first Sarah Addison Allen this week and I will definitely be reading more. This one was The Girl who Chased the Moon. Recommend this one for sure! My favorite book from this author is Garden Spells. I just read Lost Lake too.

I just finished One Second After. This was a rather grim story of what could happen in America following an attack that wipes out all electronics, communication, etc. Apparently it's based on a real weapon.
Next up is something completely different. My new bookclub book is The Dressmaker. It's the story of a woman who survives the Titanic.
Enjoyed hearing all the reviews of The Dinner. I have had it on my list and may need to bump it up.

I just started The Light Between Oceans . I bought it last summer for my nook and never read it. So far, so good. The writing is lovely. I'm getting ready to start this too - seems like the perfect read this weekend at the Oregon coast. I love reading books with a sea/ocean theme while at the coast.

I am reading The Next Best Thing by Kristan Higgins. I have been reading a lot of fluff lately since life is adding a whole lot of drama on its own. So far, this is a great summer read.
I also read The Truth About Alice by Jennifer Mathieu. It was good. It is a young adult novel about the girl known as the "high school slut". This is a great novel for high school girls about rumors and stereotypes- but I would recommend reading it first.

Right now I'm listening to Greyhound by Steffan Piper. I just finished The Wise Man's Fear by Patrick Rothfuss (Book 2, Kingkiller Trilogy) and I liked the narrator so much I looked for other books he'd done. (Nick Podehl, for those interested). Set in 1981, it's a little bit of a coming-of-age story that all takes place on a young boy's ride alone on a Greyhound bus from his mother's home in California to his grandparents' in Pennsylvania. Altoona, actually. Ushered out from his Stockton, California home by his emotionally detached mother and her latest boyfriend, twelve-year-old Sebastien Ranes must fend for himself and travel two thousand miles across the country. He is on his way to live with his grandmother and sister in Pennsylvania. Along the way, he will learn that sometimes caring, guidance and understanding can come from some unlikely people.
Marcus, a fellow bus passenger, is a man who has been neglected more by society than his family. As a young black ex-con, he is not the epitome of the person most would pick as a chaperone for their child's cross country trip. Yet rather than be held apart by their differences, Marcus and Sebastien are drawn together by the things that make us all alike.

Still on Game of Thrones book 1. This could take me all summer. Of course, if I'd get off the Internet I'd get a lot more reading done!

I've just written down a whole page of suggestions to check out - thanks!
I'm currently reading The Glass Castle, by Jeanette Walls, but in the last couple of weeks, I've read and enjoyed the following:
Big Girl Panties - by Stephanie Evanovich (a very quick, fluffy read) Dark Places - Gillian Flynn The Girl with all the Gifts - M. R. Carey (I really enjoyed this one) Miss Peregrines Home for Peculiar Children - Riggs Ransom Where We Belong - Emily Giffen

I finished one book this week and am in the middle of two more. I am currently reading Miss Peregrine's Home For The Peculiar Children by Ransom Riggs. I am about 30% into it and enjoying it. I gets mixed reviews though so I am eager to see how it plays out.
I am about 65% finished with Those Who Wish Me Dead by Michael Koryta. It's awesome! A great thriller (just what I look to read while camping in the woods!) and the "bad guys" are super-creepy. Really enjoying this one!
The book I recently finished was When You Reach Me by Rebecca Stead. Ugh. What a disappointment! I gave it 2.8/5 stars on Goodreads (yes I am very specific with my star ratings lol).

Currently reading Sparrow Migrations by Cari Noga. A fictional book about survivors of the Miracle on the Hudson and the witnesses. How their lives change after the incident. Two preacher's wives having an affair, a boy with autism, and a couple experiencing infertility. Also currently reading Nemesis by Philip Roth. Set during WWII in Newark, NJ during the summer. A novel about alarming rates of polio in a poor Jewish neighborhood. This one has immediately sucked me in! Also currently reading No Time for Goodbye by Linwood Barclay. About a 14 year old girl who wakes up and her mother, father, and brother are gone. No evidence of violence; just vanished. It goes forward (I think 20 or 25 years) to her doing a crime show to hopefully find out what happened and to clear her name. Loved his other book Never Look away and I'm enjoying this one so far. I don't normally read 3 books at once, but 2 became available at the library I wanted. Recently read because of Mr. Terupt by Rob Buyea. A children's book (probably for older elementary kids) about an amazing teacher who influences kids in his classroom. Told from the different perspectives of the students. A VERY good read. EDIT: Sorry about quoting myself!

Recently read because of Mr. Terupt by Rob Buyea. A children's book (probably for older elementary kids) about an amazing teacher who influences kids in his classroom. Told from the different perspectives of the students. A VERY good read. I read that recently too. It was cute. I did give it 3/5 stars though. Rather than re-type it, here's a piece of my review on Goodreads and why I rated it that way: "I tried to be fair with my star rating, keeping in mind that this is juvenile fiction, but I've read plenty of juvenile fiction before (Wonder and Out Of My Mind come to mind since they have similar settings) and this just didn't keep up. Where as those books pulled me in and felt meaty to me, this one I read in a few hours and it was definitely 'young'."The good part is that my oldest daughter just graduated 5th grade, and has recently (finally!) started to really enjoy reading. I recommended it to her and she LOVED it! She read it in 2 days and put her name on the waiting list for the sequel. i5ycex

I read "Mr. Mercede's" last week and liked it a lot. I generally love his books though. I'm almost always sorry to see them end. This one was scary like real life can be- no supernatural elements necessary. At times it was funny, heartbreaking, totally creepy, and 'ohmyGodnoway'.
Then I read "The Engagements" by J. Courtney Sullivan and really enjoyed it. It was a series of stories loosely bound by a diamond theme (in some way)- one of them is about the real life female ad executive responsible for early DeBeers ad copy - particularly "A diamond is forever". Her story is a little peek into how and why certain ad campaigns came about- the 'two months salary' engagement ring, the anniversary band, etc. The other stories are about all different kinds of people with varying attitudes toward diamonds, and diamonds that come into their lives.
Now I'm reading "This is Where I Leave You" by Jonathan Tropper (I want to read it before the movie comes out) and I'm really enjoying it. Dysfunctional family reunites for the dad's funeral/Shiva and the individual dysfunction and the group dysfunction is often hilarious. I hope the movie does justice to the book- it has a good cast, and I'm hopeful.
The last book I'm working on (almost finished) is Andy Cohen's memoir "Most Talkative". I think he's pretty funny, and God knows he's led an interesting life so far. Reading his book is like listening to him talk. He's very honest, self-deprecating and funny.
