elaine, you can say as many fucks as you want to and as loud as you want to. Right now this is all about you, what you need, what you choose and how you're going to kick cancer's ass. What gives me confidence that you're going to survive and thrive is the fact that there are so many survivors, just look at this board. Right now you must be in shock. Just know that you have friends here as well as survivors w/great tips and advice for getting through this stuff. I'm gonna be by your cyber side when you need me, too. My friend, Elaine is a strong woman, mother and advocate and I have no doubt that cancer will shudder in your presence.

Elaine, I'm so sorry to hear this. I hope that the biopsy comes back negative for you. But if not, Z*G is right, things will love really fast now. And parts of it will suck, but parts really aren't as bad as you are probably imagining. I just started my radiation today & so far really not as bad as I thought it would be. You got this!!! And you will come out the other side just fine, I know you will. Sending you huge hugs! Know that you aren't alone in this.

elaine....I hope your biopsy goes smoothly. I’ve “been there, done that” and am coming up on my 2 year anniversary of my diagnosis. Breastcancer.org is a wonderful resource that I would recommend checking out. There is a ton of information on their forum even for those waiting on test results. Hoping your biopsy is benign!

I just got back from the biopsy. They took 5 samples, and there was still plenty of mass/tumor left behind - it is larger than I thought. I was facing the ultrasound machine during the procedure, so I got plenty of time to look at it. The radiologist was explaining that the size and the undefined ragged edges weren’t in my favor. I’m pretty sore. The two mammogram images they had to take AFTER the procedure to show where he placed the marker were killer. I am off to take a nap now. The results will most likely not come back until Monday - it is military medicine and not much lab work gets done on the weekends.

I am glad the radiologist is being so open with you. Your thoughts are going there anyway. I will keep praying you will get good news. The waiting is the hardest part when you are a take charge kind of person.
Hugs

i have to say, the newer mammogram machines make the process so much more comfortable and faster. sure you still get the vice-like boob squeeze but at least they don't have to do it a million times because the machines now are much more advanced.

elaine I'm sorry you have to go through this. Hoping that it's not cancer. And if it is, they caught it early and it's encapsulated. Taking DH with you is a great idea. Not just because he can listen, but because he is a presence that supports you. Try to do some mindful thinking or meditation while while waiting for the results. You can't change them, so worrying about them, doesn't do you any good. Hugs hon.

Get some rest, elaine . Do you have anything fun planned for your weekend? Anything that you can do to distract yourself is a good thing, though I'm sure it's hard to get away from it when you are so sore.

They have already told me that they are probably doing both at this call back - I’d be happy to skip the mammogram and go straight to ultrasound. But, it is military medicine, so we will redo the less expensive mammogram first. I have DD breasts and it is just awful. I’ve been wanting breast reduction surgery - B size breasts sound like heaven. And my research found that studies show that breast reduction surgery, especially after the age of 50, reduces the risk of breast cancer. I’m practicing ways to make this argument to my military docs. Less painful mammograms would be a bonus. I am 9 months post reduction - G to a C cup - and I am due for my mammogram. The office calls me twice a week. I’m avoiding it. My scars still hurt and frankly, I’m scared! I know I have to go. But, I’m still so scared! But, I am loving my little boobies. They ain’t pretty, but to me, they are wonderful! I was told to wait at least a year after my reduction. Does the office know you had a reduction?? I went from a G to a B cup!! Outspoken I'd call the surgeon that did your surgery and just double check on the timing. I know I waited.

I have to say that I was scheduled for a mammogram and I was so nervous after reading this thread. I'm happy to report that I had my mammogram yesterday and it was easy peasy. I know everyone has different experiences but I wanted to say that it isn't bad for everyone. It didn't hurt and was over in less than 5 minutes. Thankfully, the results came back normal too. Don't put it off because you're scared or worried it will hurt like I was doing.

This happens to me every time, and I go every 6 months. It's like the skin just splits, it's awful, and they don't seem to have any sympathy for you either. NO!!! They don't!! I had to go in for a biopsy and they have a special breast care nurse who is there to baby you and rub your hand and whatever. I talked to her about it because #1) this can't be normal #2) I had to have a second mammogram after the biopsy/clip, and didn't want to have it re-injured. That old bat told me it looked like it was caused by my bra rubbing, not the mammogram. I was super pissed. Ummm, no... I got a mammogram, held under my breasts right afterward, and it immediately started burning from the salt on my skin/touching the tears. I don't think I'd be wearing a bra if it caused this, lady. Not a good experience. The squeezing itself was fine, but they legitimately injured me and tore my skin open with how they pulled/positioned and then let the machine pull. I'm sorry it happens to you too. They said the same thing to me! "Oh that's from your bra rubbing." Really? Why didn't I have that when I came in then???
