I've been on one Carnival cruise and I didn't love it BUT I would go again in a heartbeat if my college age daughter asked me to. How many chances like that do you get? I wouldn't hesitate. Exactly my thoughts!

I agree it speaks volumes that she'd skip the experience entirely because she's too good for Carnival. 😒

I want to add, cheap cruise = young partier. The cheapest cruises are going to have the younger people who want to party, and generally speaking, that's Carnival. Think, $250 3-day cruise on Spring Break to Mexico where the drinking age is 18. That's just asking for trouble, and I would never take one personally.
But 7-day cruise to the Caribbean will have a more mature crowd and will be 100% fine. I wouldn't bat an eye.

We have cruised 5 times with Carnival and have loved every one. I . We heard the sane things before our first one which made me nervous but I soon realized it was not the case.
. I am sure most of the big cruise lines have had the problems you mentioned. Like everyone said food on lido is just ok but the rest of the food is good. What are the ports?

Every negative you’ve listed has happened on every cruise line at one time or another. I’m sure you’ll have a great time! Visit Cruise Critic for the best tips and tricks.

I leave a week from Monday on a Canival cruise with my daughter. This will be our 3rd spring break cruise in so many years. We have only ever cruised Carnival because their dates work for us. This will be my 7th and I have 2 more booked this year.
We have always had a great time. I only got sick once and it was from food I consumed in port not on the ship.
Most ships have 3 smoking areas. Two out on deck and 1/2 the bar area in the casino. Smoking is not allowed in staterooms or on private balconies.
The food is good in the main dining room, not gourmet, but good stuff. Guys burgers and Blue Iguanas mexican is really good. 24 hour pizza is well pizza. Love the 24 hour ice cream. Some ships have a specialty steak house and a couple of other specialty restaurants available for an upcharge. Seldom do we eat at the buffet, usually breakfasts.
Go and have fun. There are some really awesome people who cruise Carnival!

I would go!
Enjoy the time with your daughter and make memories.
Pack a package of Clorox wipe and clean every surface in your room.
Wash your hands often and don't touch your face!
Have the best time ever!

I've been on Carnival a few times. Never saw or heard a brawl and no one got sick. Plenty of cruiselines have had issues with norovirus. It really should be nicknamed "the cruise virus." That said, I lower my expectations on Carnival compared to RCL or Norwegian. If I do that, it's just fine.

UPDATE - back from our cruise and we had a great time! The food was delicious, the service was great, the comedians were hysterical, the "dive-in" movies were fun, the coffee was really good, no one got sick and no brawls broke out! And it was just really nice to hang out with dd and her friends and just relax. I would do it again in a heartbeat.

So glad you had fun. Cruising is great fun. Dive in movies are a great way to spend a couple hours. I recommend RCCL(Royal) for your next cruise.

Glad to see you had a great time. I didn't see this when you posted - we were on a cruise (HAL to Cuba) and I never buy internet. I will be boarding a Carnival ship on March 24 - that will be my 15th Carnival cruise, with 7 on other lines (HAL, NCL, and RCL). I love how people who have never been on a Carnival cruise are such experts about what happens on them! A cruise is what you make of it, I'm glad you went in with a great attitude, relaxed and had a great time. Watch out tho... cruises are addictive. I'm looking now for our next one

Thanks for the great update! It's good to hear you had a great experience.
We did a Carnival cruise way back in 2000. It was great and the food really good.
We had a great experience on Princess with the exception of the food. It was pretty bad on the ship. It was fabulous at the Princess lodges in Alaska.
