I sent a Christmas card to a friend...yes the address is correct on the envelope. It came back to me in late February saying "undeliverable".
I called my friend to confirm her address and ask her what was going on. She said she gets very little mail. Her bills....she has to contact companies to find out her balance. She has lived at this current address for 3 years. Within that time period she has only gotten a handful of bills (electric, gas, etc).
She contacted her post office. The person who had been delivering as either re assigned or fired. Now, it's the same dang thing. She isn't getting mail.
Is there something I can do from my end? Will it do any good?
She is in St. Petersburg, FL.
Thoughts? Anyone else go through this?

I would not only talk to the Post office, not the one behind the counter but one in charge of your post office, also contact the Congressman and Senator in her area

Good luck. The post office is a bitch when it comes to dealing with problems.
And if you complain? Yeah good luck getting mail.

Good luck even getting hold of a live person.
I had my mail stopped while on vacation with a certain date to deliver all the accumulated mail.
Nothing came.
So I called the local post office during the day--no answer--rang and rang, no voicemail saying "we are too busy and don't give a crap to answer your call, etc."
Nothing.
Can any other "business" get away with treating their customers like that??

She needs to speak directly with her Postmaster. If they don't solve the problem, then she should contact the USPS District Consumer Affairs office. To locate her district office, have her check here. Hopefully one of those options will get her mail delivery issue corrected. If not, then she needs to contact: Mail: Consumer Advocate US Postal Service 475 L'Enfant Plaza, SW, Room 4131 Washington, DC 20260-5601 Phone: 202-268-2000 This link lists the steps to take, in order, to resolve USPS issues.

Postmaster or Station Master. You can also go to USPS.com, you can get the local direct phone number on the website, not just the 800 number. I have spoken in person and on the phone with the Postmaster for my residential mail and Station Master where my mail box is.

My husband was a letter carrier until recently. There are a lot of reasons someone might not be getting their mail. Often the reason is that the mailbox is blocked either by cars or a dog or something else. Many carriers will find a way around this; others stick to the exact rules and refuse to deliver. Carriers are kept to a strict schedule and if they deviate from procedure on their routes, they get dinged for not making time. Carriers are people and they work very hard. It upsets me sometimes to see people shitting all over them without an understanding of what the job really involves. Maybe the carrier really is a bum. Who knows? A talk with the postmaster can often sort things out.

She has talked to multiple people at her post office. They have an air of.....don't care, nothing can be done. Which is why I reached out to you guys.
Thanks!
I'll pass the info on to her.

Btw I sent sent 3 cards to my daughter last year for valentines, I got all of them back as undeliverable. She lived in an apt building. No dogs, no blocking mailboxes, nice weather, no reason not to deliver those cards.

Where is her mailbox located?
I would sit there and take photos of the mailman walking by.

Send a registered letter, see if it gets to her? I think certified is cheaper, go a bit extra for a return receipt requested.

I have found in the past that it helps if both the person sending the mail AND the person who should be receiving it each call the postmaster on the receiving end.
I was having trouble sending mail to a particular person and when we spoke about it she mentioned that she frequently has issues with her mail and has called the P.O. about it. So I called as well and they really did seem interested in what I was telling them. I think it may be because if I call and say "Someone mailed me something...." they think "You only think they mailed it.", but if I call and say "I mailed this item, at this location, on this date..." it seems more factual. In my case, I had sent multiple items from different locations, which really pointed to the issue being on the receiving end.
Now, on the flip side, my aunt used to have issues sending anyone anything, and they eventually found that there was an employing stealing & tampering with the outgoing mail.

I would try to get a post office box in that case and see if that helped with the situation. Mail boxes aren't terribly expensive.

It's centrally located. She is in a condo. Do others have problems with their mail? I'd be checking on this too. The more information you or she has when pursuing this, the better. And I'd be taking it farther up the chain than just the local post office, if needed.

Rather then spend the $$ on Certified. Do proof of mailing, think it is under $1... You will have the stamped proof but the envelope is not marked. But you will have proof to use if the letter does not arrive in a reasonable time.

That was going to be my next suggestion. I did it, but I also had to go into the PO. But you can go to any authorized Post Office listed if need be.
