For layouts? I find it harder for "everyday" pics.

Most of the time I just use whatever font catches my fancy at the moment, although I do tend to use a medieval style font for a Renaissance Fair page, an oriental font if we have been to a Japanese garden, etc. Some layouts are easier to find a suitable font than others.
Choosing a font often takes me a long time, but I have a lot of fonts.

fonts for journaling, or for titles?
I typically use stickers / thickers for titles (or ones I've cut on my the silhouette)... I use pretty casual, or 'generic' fonts most of the time- if it's a more formal page, I'll use a cursive font. Only the most 'themed' pages (like southwest or western pages) will get a theme-y style font, like a western-type font, or something like that.
I don't try to match my fonts to the pages; I do the 'theme' on my pages through the embellishments, paper colors, and paper patterns I choose.

For titles, i mean. I find the more general types harder to pick from, but themes seem more obvious picks to me.

Totally random. Just have to be able to read it.

I use Thickers for my titles pretty often. It usually comes down to what color works.
If I am cutting my own letters on my Cricut, I tend to use Alphalicious or Plantin Schoolbook the most.
I also have a basic block lettering set from Quickutz in 2" that I use frequently.

I almost always use my Cameo for titles. I'm like most - it's totally random. I have a ton of fonts and I look at them through FontBook or WordMark.it to see what they'll look like.

Strangely enough I try to find a font that fits the theme of what I am scrapping at the time. For example the Hawaii LO's I'm currently working on I will use Bikinis for the titles and Tiki Holiday for the journaling. When I do the LO's for the two summers I worked at a camp in Hawaii I will use Windsong for the titles because that was my camp name. For the LO's I have to do for a trip to Michigan last summer I will use Grand Hotel for the titles because we visited the Grand on Mackinac Island. For several family LO's I've done lately I have used Shelter Me. For LO's of the west or southwest I've used a western themed font for the titles.

Totally random. Just have to be able to read it. That's it, for me, too. And I want the colour and (sometimes) texture to tie in with the page theme. I am just moving to using my Silhouette instead of using stickers, but am sticking to the fonts that are more "blocky" (ie fewer curlie cues to cut and persuade to come off the mat unscathed). Have been using BlackOak and Brush Script std lately.

I also have a bunch of fonts that I just like how easy they are to work with and weld without a lot of issues. Sometimes I will search for fonts that come close to matching a font in a logo.

I type it into Wordmark.it and see what strikes my fancy. I can see the titles in hundreds of fonts in about a minute.

wordmark is so cool!! oh my gosh, I never knew about that! hopefully I can remember it until I get home to my laptop, lol!!
(before, I would use Microsoft word and select the different fonts, or slower yet, do it in the Silhouette software... this is great!)

I can't remember who mentioned it to me years ago, but it is one of the best tools if you scrapbook. I am much more likely to use different fonts this way. You can also type in a word or two and then actually create a print out of what it would look like in all of the fonts. You can get quite a few on a piece of paper. From that list, I highlighted my favorites and keep that as a general guide when I am not around my computer (at a crop).

For titles, i mean. I find the more general types harder to pick from, but themes seem more obvious picks to me. For more general types, it is easier in the sense that you have more to choose from, but harder to narrow down the possibilities for the same reason. I had not heard of wordmark before, so I may need to try that. Since I cut my titles with my Cameo, I type the title in the software, then as long as it is selected/highlighted, I can use the down arrow to scroll through my fonts, and it automatically changes the font it will cut in. When I find a font I like, I duplicate the title so I can keep one in that font. Then I continue scolling with the selected. duplicated title, and repeat the process. Once I have a variety of fonts that look good to me, I fill them with color to see better what they will look like for my layout. I eliminate and narrow them down one at a time, until I end up with the one I think will look the best. It probably seems a rather lengthy process, but it's actually not as bad as it sounds. By the time I finish, I have a title ready to offset for a background mat and then cut it.

I go with a font that fits the ‘feel’ of the layout - a romantic font for a love layout, a bold, fun font for a funny layout, etc.
