Update: Thought I would add an update in case it helps anyone else. I bought my Toyota Highlander with the Costco auto buying program and can't say enough good things about it! Really nothing different in the process except not having to negotiate. The discount was $800 under the dealer invoice so we saved a little over $4k. They had to do a dealer trade to the model/color I wanted and added my extras and we got it done in time to get Toyota's special rate (little less than a week from start to finish). I highly recommend it and appreciate the input! ________________________________________________________________________ Thinking I'd like to go through Costco since we know what we want and I don't really want to haggle on price. Anyone have any strong thoughts one way or another going this route? We may have auto buying programs through work as a 2nd option (used to, at least). I would like to finance through Toyota to get a special rate that is going on now. For anyone that has gone through Costco, were you also able to get Toyota financing? From what I've seen online, sounds like once you get sent to whichever Costco dealer you will work with, seems like it's a straight-forward process. Any hints I should know about beforehand? We do plan to test drive ahead of time before we go through Costco. Thanks!

Costco sellers agree to provide the low price so that when you go into the dealer, the price is set and you don't have to haggle for hours.
The financing is set as normal - so as long as you qualify in the top tier for their low rates, you'll get it. Financing is always dealt with separately - and remember if you get offered extended warranties or anything else, those prices are definitely negotiable big time.
Have fun shopping!

My ex-husband went through Costco and was very happy with the program. Happy car shopping!

We've bought 3 vehicles now through Costco and it's so easy! No haggling...you just walk in and they give you the price. If I'm remembering right Costco pricing is a set amount over invoice and I'm thinking it was $500?
It's been a few years since the last time we used them, but we just went through the online program, filling out the form with the exact car we were looking for. Then they send that to local dealers who will contact you with what they have to offer. So you may have a few different dealers to choose from depending on their stock and what you are looking for.
The first time we used it, it was so bizarre to just walk in to the dealer, they handed us the paperwork with the Costco price we were going to pay, checked out the car and we were done after financing. I think we were driving out with the new car in less than 2 hours. We were like, that's it?!?!

Check with your bank. Sometimes, they can offer a good financing rate.

And now I definitely know we need to have it picked out in advance, so that's helpful! Our last two vehicles were very quick...but DH did them and he does.not.negotiate (drives me crazy). I negotiate for a living and just don't feel like it for a car plus just don't have the time to do any back and forth.

Check with your bank. Sometimes, they can offer a good financing rate. We have used our credit union in the past, although the last two cars we got 0% with the automaker financing. This deal is 0.9% through Toyota, so I'm good with that. It amazes me how the deals fluctuate!

We leased our car "with the help of Costco". One dealer in town offers to beat the best price offered by $100 but does not work with Costco. So we went to a dealer with Costco, got the price in writing and the other dealer beat it. no negotiating. no hassle.

Not sure if this helps or not, but we've bought a Honda, Toyota and Nissan through Costco. Each one was the same experience, even though they were different dealers. I hope your experience is as good!
Edited to add: You definitely want to go in knowing pretty close to what you want. That way the dealers can contact you with exactly what you are looking for or at least pretty close to it. When we got the Toyota, our local dealer didn't have exactly what we wanted but they found it at another dealer and had it delivered to theirs. We still go the Costco deal too.

Is going through Costco only for new cars or can you do used ones as well? I'm in the car buying mode and know exactly what I want, but I want used not new.

My DD bought a used Ford Edge and got $1000 off the dealer's "guaranteed low price". It's a dealer that doesn't negotiate. You pay the posted price, except for the Costco discount. Yes, @shells004 You can use the manufacturer's financing and the Costco program.

We bought our Honda Pilot through Costco. Spent way less than we expected and it was easy. We financed through Honda, just as we would have without Costco. Would totally do it again.

I bought my car through Costco many moons ago. The guy I had to deal with was an ass, and since my other car had just been totaled I didn’t have time to find another salesman. The car buying was smooth, the guy was just a jerk. When I went it took a long time to schedule an appointment, that was my only frustration since I hated the guy I was sent to.

Capital One Auto Navigator is another option. It works like the Costco program. I found a 1 year old vehicle, and got the best deal going through them. I financed with Capital One also, but you don't have to. I could've financed with Mitsubishi or my bank, but the Cap 1 offer overall was the best.
