So for years especially when I was job hunting and just working at minimal wages or part time, I would do all kinds of odd jobs for extra money. So a 'new' friend (coworker) and I were talking and she just moved out of her house, I asked her if she is all done cleaning and stuff with it. She said no and she is tired of it and is going to pay someone $600 to just clear out the stuff she doesn't want (not trash, just stuff) and I was like who are you going to call? She said she is calling around and I piped up and said I'll take $500 to clear it out (I have seen what was left so I knew what I was getting into)... she said SURE.. she would rather pay someone who wanted the money instead of a company or whatever.... and I can use that money to see my son in Germany. So that is my new odd job. I have done some crazy stuff... dog sitting, not that crazy though. Cleaned a house for a real estate friend which isn't crazy either but it was nasty. Nice house but the people didn't know how to dust.. think at least 12 years of dust on wooden blinds baked in the sun. I totally saved them, or at least good enough to keep up until the house was sold. I worked for a couple of different clients (at my old job in accounting). One lady was older and just needed a little help with managing her money. Now my boss did that but she wanted basic bones stuff which I did for her. Then I ended up cleaning her house or at least come by and make sure food wasn't getting old and cleaning out cabinets (cause there was some OLD canned stuff)... Then she would always forget if she paid me and would send checks to my work. I would call her up and say "you already paid me for this month... she would then come up with some excuse to say it was for just being here for me... I would argue with her but she wouldn't take no for an answer.. it wasn't a lot of money or I would have just torn up the check.. it was usually like $20.. Then a another couple who's wife micro-managed everything, she went blind so I came in to help her husband pay bills and basically also kept my eye out for old food. Now this couple was darling (well the husband was.. the wife kinda cranky, even before the eyesight was a problem, but she liked me..lol).. They would always feed me, but I made sure it was take-out (they LOVED Chinese food so it was easy) cause I wasn't about to eat anything leftover there.. lol.. once he gave me a Pepsi.. it was so old it had that pull off type tab.. God love them. Finally they both passed on. I did a lot of misc stuff for them. What else?? Just any old odd ball type jobs.. I love making that extra $$. Maybe I can get some ideas!! Just don't suggest mowing lawns.. I do draw a line. LOL

You've got way more energy than I do!
Answering the question in your thread title, my answer is 'nope.' I work 40 hours a week, and I drive 10 hours to/from work... I don't have time or energy enough to do what needs doing at our own house, let alone work doing odd jobs for other people.

No. My mom (in her 60s) does dishes a few times a week for some lady in her neighborhood though. I guess the lady really hates washing dishes...

Yes, just every so often. Right now I’m dog sitting for a week. I have done child care, organized files, painted and cleaned out homes people moved out of over the years.

It's been a long time, but working a temp job in a cheese factory. The worst job I was assigned was cutting off mold. I ate a lot less cheese for years.
ETA: I found a guy to clean out a rental house years ago. He got a generous tip.

After collegr but before I found my first “big girl” job I was a nanny. I keep my CPR certification current and I still babysit to this day. I make better money babysitting than I do at my office job, but the office job comes with benefits. I probably babysit 4-5 times a month. My easiest kid is always in bed before I come over, it’s the easiest $50 I’ve ever made.

No, I have never done odd jobs on the side. When I was working, my job was too demanding to take on anything else.
My mom has done ironing for people before. She loves to iron (not a trait I inherited) and finds it relaxing. My youngest brother designs houses on the side for local builders. My other brother bales hay and other farm work for extra cash.

The only odd jobs I've ever done were crafting related. I make door wreaths and co-workers will ask me to make something - or buy one I made for my classroom door when I'm finished using it. It doesn't pay well. If I charged for my time they would be too expensive. I've also made a couple of scrapbooks for friends.

When I was single I was a model for an artist who was making a bronze sculpture. He was really interested in my hands.

I used to tutor a lot, both during the school year and summer. Now I sell stuff on Teachers Pay Teachers and that more than makes up for the tutoring money (and is a lot more enjoyable].

It's funny, looking back, even with my first big girl jobs, I still worked a few part time hours at a hotel. I have always worked since 16. Never was interested in college. Did some trade school stuff, including I guess for my current job. But otherwise I just have always worked for the most part a full time job, and then something just will drop in my lap and I do it. I guess I like that little extra side cash. It's paid for scrapbook retreats and things like that. If I was a better budget-er I would probably not have to do side jobs, but anything to do with math sends me into a tailspin. I think it is some disease.
I always wanted to do some kind of extra scrapbook work for anyone but never really looked into it. Not a lot of people want that kind of thing I guess or don't want to pay for it.

I've the Queen of Odd Jobs I think. I've taken in ironing, sold homemade cakes and cookies, cleaned houses, given riding lessons, trained horses, taught vaulting, cleaned horse stalls, made clothes, sold paper crafts and re-purposed things and sold them all while holding down 2 part time jobs and raising a family. I usually was able to use the extra money for scrapping or quilting retreats, airplane tickets to see my folks or kids and other things that didn't fit into the family budget.

Yes. I have a few friends that hold annual scrapbook retreats and I do custom cutting on demand for the croppers there. I’ve done diecutting for special classroom projects for a couple teacher friends. I’m currently doing some custom sewing projects for one of DH’s longtime clients. I never pass up an opportunity to make a buck.

I have a small photography business that at this point I only do a few shoots a year for extra cash. In the past I have also taught Photoshop classes, set up computer equipment, walked dogs, created logos, and made some crafts all for extra money here and there. Recently I opened an Etsy shop and sell digital designs there. Thats been a great little money maker.

I've always helped a few family members with their taxes and I didn't charge them, but many times they would do something nice for me such as take me to dinner or a gift card. One April 15th, my early 20s nephew called me and wanted to know if I could help out 3 of his buddies. They had gone to H&R and were told it was an 8 hour wait time. All they had was EZ taxes to do. So I did those 3 and they paid me like $25 a piece. Quite a bit for back in the day. They insisted I take the money. Great! The next year, 2 or 3 more of his friends asked if I could do their taxes. I did, charged a little bit for it. It kind of grew year after year. I do about 16 peoples taxes. I don't make a huge amount because I don't charge a whole lot. A lot of those that were paying $600+, I charge about $150-200. I just like doing them, keeps the brain working. I also do Crowdflower Tasks for fun. Not great pay at all, but like the challenge. I made about $600 doing those, but I'm also at level 3 which pays more.

I tutor about 4 hours a week (more in the summer) for the verbal sections of ACT & SAT and it's a nice extra infusion of money. I put that money straight into savings and it pays for our vacation every year and extra "fun" stuff for me.

I think it's a great idea. I plan to do something when I retire for extra cash for frivolous, fun stuff.
I have a friend that I might run errands for, for starters.

One of ds’ teachers was telling me about this. I don’t know if it’s the exact site, but I think they need to offer some free content for every so much paid stuff. Another of our teachers comes up with these great ideas and she makes some decent money doing this.

Somebody here might be interested in fiverr.com. It’s a freelance thing. Here’s a link to all the categories. www.fiverr.com/categoriesWe’ve used them to create logos and get my friend’s book ready to sell. We sent the document, an image, title, and back cover content. He transformed it into a book - formatted for both print and kindle. He transformed it from looking like a homework assignment to a real book. He didn’t change the copy, he just prettied it up. Chapter headings got a different font and a flourish. Table of contents was adjusted to make the pages correct for a book instead of a document. He took our image and title and sent us a book cover that was so much better than we envisioned. It looked like a BOOK COVER. There are plenty of other services you could either use or market. The people we’ve used are on the other side of the world.

I don’t. The closest I came to an odd job was when I offered to edit a friend’s book. It was picture-heavy so it only took a few days and I just did it to help her. She “paid” me in some goodies and I think she may have given me a restaurant GC. She called me last week trying to connect me to a guy who was looking for a paying gig. This guy needed a writer for his photography. I don’t have time because I have a real job now, working for our mutual friend. Plus I’m not interested in what he’s doing. She says, “but he’s cute!” I laughed at her trying to bring me money and a man. workingclassdog thanks for starting this thread. An odd job person might be exactly what I need. And I think I’m going to start with my kids. They could use some extra cash and I need a job done that they are doing in dribs and drabs. I need it prioritized and this may be the key.

And the rest of the stuff should mostly sell I would think. A couch which is in great shape and a matching chair, a couple of office chairs, a cheapie desk and file cabinet, and about 100 DVDs and 100 CDs. And then a bunch of misc items.. most I think we can sell on FB or have a garage sale before our trip... It was a draining weekend though.. but worth it for the cash for the trip!

I"ve done some side photography jobs. But I never am willing to work for a co-worker. In the event the side job ends up going "off" for any reason it damages my primary job relationships. That has the potential to leading to being fired (if not the spoken reason it can still be the reason)
