I remember you being ill nicolep and I'm probably lucky I didn't end up in the hospital myself. I'm having trouble with my voice; if I try to answer the phone I cough instead and people are there "Hello?? Hello??" After about 2 minutes of talking I feel like I'm having to shout like don to have any voice at all. Anyway, I have avoided the more serious complications of a hernia/twisted intestine from coughing/sneezing so no surgery in my future, hurrah. On the downside I'm going to need a blood test because I doubt I can avoid a vitamin B12 infusion, and they've been threatening me with one every year for the last 3 years! When you have only one vein above your right knee needles are instruments of extreme torture... I'll try and pop in a bit more, now I'm up and about. It's a shame I can't read and comment when I'm lying down, but I can't use my hands then.

don Thanks for the laugh and great message. I try to remind people getting the flu shot is not just for themselves, it's for all the people with compromised immune systems, too. If you don't get the flu, you don't share it with other. Off my soapbox now!

The people I know who had this flu were hit so hard. DH didn't move for days. He always gets a flu shot, but it wasn't very effective this year.
Sorry you were so sick, Jane and Nicole! I hope you continue to recover smoothly. Take care of yourselves!

Even some people who got the flu shot got sick since there were some strains that it didn’t prevent. Sorry you had to go through that jane and nicolep. Hope you feel better soon.

Our flu shots are just starting to be available here. I don’t usually get one but am considering it this year- though I haven’t yet seen which strains the vaccine is supposedly covering this year.

I haven't had the flu shot for over 20 years. With the recent strains in the last few years, It has made me think a little differently.

I haven't had the flu shot for over 20 years. With the recent strains in the last few years, It has made me think a little differently. Working in the ER, I see some of what the flu can do. If you’re able to get the shot, it’s highly recommended. Even if it doesn’t prevent flu (like happened to some this year) it may reduce the severity of your symptoms. I’ll take a 30% reduction in risk of a potentially fatal (even in some healthy people) illness. Good hand hygiene is also your friend.

JaneB and nicolep, I'm sorry you've been so sick. I hope you're in a position to take the time you need to recover. The flu was especially scary this year. The deaths of so many healthy young people are making me think twice about the flu shot. I haven't had one in years.

I do, but the last time I got the shot, I got quite sick. In my mind, I know that the flu shot does not cause the flu, but that was the last time I threw up, so I keep thinking doing nothing means I don't get sick. I built up a large resistance to so many things working in the classroom that I keep living with that unsound mental thought. My sickness of choice was always strep throat and I haven't had that in maybe 10 years. I can't even remember the last cold (long before my last strep throat). However, the guys in this house aren't great at taking care of me, so I need to suck it up and just get the darn thing next flu season.
