We are aging, but we are also more aware of things than we were on the old board, where people came and went at an alarming speed sometimes. Here we are a smaller group and we pay attention a bit more. Maybe people are more willing to share with others. I think for some people, like me, who don't have Pea friends IRL, how would you know if I died? You wouldn't. I'm sure there are more like me than not. I have made a sealed envelope and put it with my will with instructions to notify here That's a good idea. I'm going to do the same. I don't have anyone here that could notify the board.

I have been away and just saw this today. I have avoided posting because it just seems unfathomable and I am not quite sure what to say. I always enjoyed reading Scrapsontherocks posts and thoughts. Periodically I would wonder where she went and why she wasn't posting. I even went back and looked at her last posts trying to determine if she stopped posting for a specific reason.
Such a sad and horrific situation. My thoughts go out to all of her family and friends, and to all RefugeePeas.

It’s all so awful and odd! The article lists him as homeless, and implies she had a home in Penzance...it makes your imagination take you places trying to make sense of it. Like maybe the trip turned bad and they were forced to come home. I hope for her family’s sake that they get some real answers! Remember it is an article. She may have been renting a holiday home and the reporter just called it “her home”. The husband may not have been at the property, perhaps no one said to the reporter that they shared it, no one had an address for the husband in the UK so he was described as homeless. I am just speculating but what was written in that report, whilst not necessarily incorrect, will not be the whole picture either, but the reporter’s interpretation of events. It may well be that we will never know just what went on.

OMG I've been away on vacation for a week. I can't believe what I'm reading here. This is such a dreadful, dreadful update. I'm speechless trying to get my head around all this. I need to read the rest of the thread. How truly awful for such a thing to happen to anyone. Although I didn't know scrapontherocks personally but for it to happen to someone who I had a lot of interaction with and thought a lot of, is truly heartbreaking.

Sorry to resurrect this old thread but I've been thinking about ScrapsontheRocks lately and decided to Google what was going on with her death/murder case. Sorry, again, if there has has been an update thread that I've missed. It appears her husband is/was terminally ill and they decided on a suicide pact. lisacharlotte was right with her analysis of the "swan song" wording regarding this last trip before passing. Some initial mysterious info is cleared: the articles from October mention they were at a holiday let, had travelled America, Russia and Europe, had sold their home in South Africa before leaving on this trip and planned to travel until they ran out of money. Due to visa issues, they couldn't return to South Africa either. The British justice system has dropped the murder charge for manslaughter so it appears they believe she was in on the suicide pact and did indeed sign the letter. You can read more about it here and here. It's all extremely sad. I'll be thinking about this for the rest of the day for sure.

There have already been links about what exactly happened and the eventual outcome of the court case on an other thread.

These two links are the most recent updates from October 2018. The last post in this thread before I revived it dates back to August 2018. Just going back one page in this thread, there was only speculation about what he'd claim when he was to be heard in the autumn.

One thing that stood out for me from the articles linked above. The husband didn’t have enough strength to sign the suicide pact yet he was able to stab her multiple times?

What kills me is that “he was too frail to hold the pen” to sign their suicide pact, yet he went in to stab her. It takes a lot of force and strength to stab someone.

I'm guessing that it wasn't so much that he couldn't hold the pen but that he couldn't manage to write with it because of his Parkinsons.
