My MIL just gave me her old typewriter from the 1970s — a manual Smith Corona Sterling. I know nothing about it, so I’ll have to do some research but I’m super excited to have it for scrapbooking!!! Just thought the Peas were the only people who would understand my enthusiasm hah

She is pretty! I have 4 typewriters, one is cursive, but none are pretty colors. I love them though. Have fun with your new toy!

With the case! You can take it to crops. The Delete and Backspace key comes in a separate bottle or tape runner. The Spellcheck comes in a book by Webster. At least it won't crash on you in the middle of your work. It looks well taken care of. I hope you get some good use out of it.

I have that EXACT one (even the color). I use it almost daily. This is what I grew up on and learned on so I know quite a bit about the machine. Let me know what specific questions you have. It's a great typewriter. Enjoy!

I love the size of it. I just brought my mom's old typewriter home. It's big and heavy.
I have to give it a good cleaning. There was some bird seed in it, so I know the mice were there at one point (yuck!). It's staying out in the cold garage until I have time to get it clean.

It's a great typewriter. Enjoy! Ahhh how cool!! I located a manual online so I think I have the lay of the land. My only questions right now is — how do you know if the ribbon needs to be replaced? Just type and see if it works? And where do you get your replacement ribbons?

You can see how clean mine types. That is with the ribbon linked below. www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002C78196/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1

That looks like the one I had growing up.. (or should I say my mom)... wish we still had it!
I was given one from my office, they weren't using it anymore.. that said it is newer and not a cutie pie.. I just have it boxed up until I have a space to put it in.

papersilly That is an awesome collection! I never heard of a cursive typewriter before 2peas. cursive is my favorite kind of typeface! there is a style called "vertical upright script" that is particularly cute. i have it on about 4 typewriters and it's a curly looking cursive.

Your picture brought back so many memories. I think the first typewriter my late mother gave me was that exact model. She had been a secretary and taught me to type at a young age. She said that "a girl should learn to type because you can always get a job as a typist." She died in 1983 so she never got to see how learning to type made it much easier to use a computer. I wish I saved that typewriter. . .

I would love a collection but don't know where I would store them. Where do you keep them all? I have four on a shelf in my den. Another four on a shelf in my living room. Three are in a hutch. Two on my desk in my SB room. One on a corner shelf and the rest are in their cases in the garage just waiting to be rotated into the house.

I didn't know about a cursive typewriter either before 2 Peas and now I have 2 - one electric and one manual. papersilly - how do I know which type of cursive I have? Your collection is stunning. I literally just want to come over and type pages and pages on your typewriters! Be careful what you wish for! You might wind up leaving my house with a typewriter to take home.

Oh man, papersilly, that script is gorgeous. And I just LOVE your collection. I would love to have a collection like that but have to find where to put them. They would collect dust and dog hair badly too.
