Another amazing thread - if Americans only cared.
We're like the frogs in nice warm water - happy and placid. When it starts to boil, it'll be too late to start acting.

linktrump.. “President Xi of China, and I, are working together to give massive Chinese phone company, ZTE, a way to get back into business, fast. Too many jobs in China lost. Commerce Department has been instructed to get it done!” While I don’t understand what happened to ZTE, even after reading the linked article from CNET, what I find really interesting is trump’s comment ‘Too many jobs in China lost”. Since when did China care about the number of jobs lost in this country that went China? What an odd comment, even for trump. Since they helped him with North Korea. SaveSave

“So sad to see the Terror Attack in Paris. At some point countries will have to open their eyes & see what is really going on. This kind of sickness & hatred is not compatible with a loving, peaceful, & successful country! Changes to our thought process on terror must be made.”
This is rich coming from the guy ignoring all the senseless deaths caused by guns in this country.

More swamp shit from Betsy DeVis...
Seems that hiring the employees of for profit schools that you once worked for—who were under investigation (which were rolled back) is what happens with this administration.
Drain the swamp—-bullshit.
“Washington (CNN)A Department of Education team that had looked into fraud and abuse by for-profit colleges has been dismantled to the point that it has "effectively killed investigations" into institutions where top hires of Education Secretary Betsy DeVos once worked, The New York Times reported Sunday, citing current and former employees.
The team has gone from about a dozen lawyers and investigators looking into advertising, recruitment, and graduate employment claims of several institutions at the end of the Obama administration to just three team members today, the Times reported. Current and former employees, including former team members, said the team's mission has been reduced to processing student loan forgiveness applications and examining smaller compliance cases, the newspaper said. An investigation into DeVry University, now known as Adtalem Global Education, "ground to a halt early last year," and later, over the summer, DeVos picked Julian Schmoke, a former dean at the school, to be the team's supervisor, the Times reported. Meanwhile, probes into for-profit education companies Bridgepoint Education and Career Education Corp. also "went dark," the newspaper said. The Times reported that former employees of those institutions are working for DeVos as well, including Robert S. Eitel, a former Bridgepoint attorney who is now her senior counselor, and Diane Auer Jones, a former Career Education employee who is now a senior postsecondary education adviser at the department. The department's recently confirmed general counsel, Carlos G. Muñiz, provided consulting services to Career Education, the newspaper said.
Eitel recused himself last year from matters involving Bridgepoint and Career Education, where he was previously a top lawyer. Jones has not recused herself from issues involving Career Education, according to a list of recusals the department provided the newspaper. The department did not say whether Muñiz had recused himself from issues involving Career Education, the Times reported. Department spokeswoman Elizabeth Hill told the Times that the team had lost members due to attrition and that investigations are just one way the team helps the department provide oversight. Hill also said the new employees who had worked in the for-profit education sector did not influence the team's work. The department's deputy press secretary, Evelyn Stauffer, did not immediately return CNN's request for comment Sunday. DeVry, which agreed to a $100 million settlement in 2016 in a Federal Trade Commission lawsuit that alleged its ads about employment and salaries after graduation misled prospective students, did not respond to the Times' requests for comment. Schmoke, who the department said recused himself from matters involving DeVry, declined to be interviewed by the newspaper. The Education Department reached a limited settlement with the for-profit college in 2016 after finding it couldn't back up claims that 90 percent of its alumni since 1975 were employed in their field of study within six months of graduating, according to the Times, which added that investigations into its other practices continued afterward. Although Hill told the newspaper that the probe was suspended early last year, before President Donald Trump took office, former and current employees disputed her account, saying the team's work became a contentious issue in meetings with Trump's transition team, the newspaper reported. Regarding the team's investigations into recruiting and advertising issues at the other companies, Bridgepoint said in a statement to the Times that it was aware of a review of certain issues beginning in 2015, but not of the involvement of the enforcement unit. Career Education did not respond to the newspaper's requests for comment.”

Seems that hiring the employees of for profit schools that you once worked for—who were under investigation (which were rolled back) is what happens with this administration. It will never end.. That is the same ting that Pruitt has been doing at EPA including big raises for his former employees in Oklahoma who he imported to EPA DC!

The notion that students should have to forgo pay and incur additional debt to gain work experience is ludicrous. I can see how this would be an issue, but it was somehow managed during the prior administration because they made it a priority.

Amy Siskind...
“I missed the part where I voted for Jared Kushner, or he had the background to be the voice of the United States, or heck, even security clearance. And then I remembered, we live in an authoritarian regime now, so of course a family member is speaking for us.”
It was kind of jarring to turn on the news and see old Jared speaking for the United States.

“A Trump building project in Indonesia is receiving millions from Chinese government. How is this not emoluments? sc.mp/2rCpF5x via @scmp_News”
This could explain trump’s tweet yesterday about getting involved in ZTE.

I thought the same exact thing this morning- I figured I MUST have missed the news about him finally getting his security clearance taken care of- otherwise he certainly wouldn't be speaking on behalf of the US... right??

Donald Trump and Sean Hannity's Late Night CallsSo this opinion "journalist" has virtually unfettered access to the POTUS, who has shown himself to be more than susceptible to suggestion from his favorite infotainment outlet. No, there's nothing to be concerned about here. ![](http://i1168.photobucket.com/albums/r481/2peasrefugees/Smilies/handovereyes.gif) Oh yeah, that's totally normal. Don’t suppose we could just set the calendar ahead to January 2021 and tell him his term is over?

That poor delusional boy, one does not need the leaked information to make you and those around you “look as bad as possible”. That’s done by your words and actions in public.

The republicans/conservatives party has been all about “misinformation” fake news and alternative facts. They’ve brilliantly caused it, feed into it, and have been working it while all along blaming the Democrats for it, so that it keeps their base in a frenzy over it.
They deliberately lie, manipulate and distort facts solely for political gain. And they have a leader who has no shame, doesn’t give a flying fuck if he stands in front of the world and makes outrageous claims and lies 75% of the time the windbag opens his mouth.

I posted this on the "trump wants war" thread, but it applies here also, and there is more traffic here
the Trump administration is praising Israel for their reactions to the Palestinian protesters which resulted in more than 1000 injuries, and 55 deaths. Jared Kushner even 'complimented' the Israeli actions to attack the protesters who had gathered along the fence in Gaza. For the most part, the Palestinian protest was peaceful, with only rocks being thrown. Israel decide to respond with tear gas and guns. The United States position on the Middle East has given Israel open permission to aggressive attack on the Palestinians. The Middle East situation is not black and white, and the history of the conflict extends back 98 years to 1920 when European powers decided to carve up what was formerly the Ottoman Empire. Israel was created after WWII as a homeland for displaced Jews. It was created by taking land from Palestine. But Jerusalem is a sacred site to three religions, Jews, Christians, and Islams and should not be 'awarded' solely to one. Selecting today's date for the opening of the American Embassy was a big Fuck You on the part of Israel, Trump and Kushner (although I am sure that Trump was clueless, as he is completely about any world history). The right for people to assemble and protest is (or was) a founding principal in the United States. The silence of this administration on this action, and the fact that Pompeo is unable to answer any questions on this matter shows how clueless this Administration is.
I don't address this issue lightly, or without some knowledge. I have a BA in Mid-East History and Culture, and while it is old (over 40 years), and I have not studied the Middle East situation as intensely as in the past (and it is much more complicated), I do have some working knowledge and understanding of the conflicts. And I have been in Jerusalem, and understand the reverence to which all three religions place on Jerusalem.
The decision of this administrations will again, have long reaching implications, and not for the positive. Another mark of shame for the US.
