I just read through the Hero Arts thread on the Scrapbooking thread and am amazed by the backgrounds for the scenes from the May kit sneaks. Also love the leaves on the one card. For my 100 Days project, I am attempting to play with art media to learn what works best for me. Was wondering what advice about inks you may have? What inks do you use? Interested in specific colours as well as brands. How to you apply them to paper? What is your favourite blending technique between colours? |

I’ve seen ink blending done with just about all the popular inks (distress, PTI, Altenew, SSS, etc.). I’m too heavy handed for most inks and end up with splotches. I really need to practice.
I’ve had the best luck with oxide inks. They blend easily.

I use the Ranger Mini Ink Blending Tool for all my blending. I mainly blend with distress ink and distress oxide ink and each color has its own foam. Occasionally I'll blend with regular dye ink too. I use a swirling motion, starting off the paper then moving onto the paper, still swirling. I actually have five of the blending tools so I don't have to change the foams each time. The best thing I can recommend is to watch YT videos to learn the technique. Google "Distress Ink Blending". I hope this helps. |

I am very fancy I use makeup sponges, lol. I use the Distress lines- Oxide and Regular with my makeup sponges. I do the swirl method too. I get beautiful coverage with no streaks. Stampin Up has always been a lovely blending ink too. I just never was good as some of the blending artists with those inks.

I've tried make-up sponges and the distress tools. Neither works for me. I use the jumbo daubers. I love them. I can easily swirl off the paper first then work my way onto the space I want to add color to.

I got one of the distress brushes with a SSS kit and I really like it for light blending of distress inks. I'm a bit heavy handed, so I have to be careful. But I can build light layers with the brush. I usually pull the cover down halfway to make the brush tighter. I only have one brush but it seems to work fine to swirl it around on my damp stamp shammy and then on a dry piece of paper to switch between colors. I have been using blues and greens but the brush cleans up well in between. I might get a second one for warm colors, but right now it doesn't seem necessary.
I had tried some cheap makeup brushes that someone recommended, but they didn't work well for me. I have since added a rubber band around the bristles to make them firmer, but haven't had a chance to try them out.
I use the mini blending tool for where I want a more vibrant color. I want to try my new brush with my stencils - I think it will work a lot better than the blending tool.
