A car dealership probably thinks my LV is fake lol. Plus I drive a mommobile the same as a lot of other middle aged women in my community. They ignore me when I go in. It’s ok because I have a mechanic for a son and an accountant for a father and they do numbers faster than a cars salesman would.

Having worked in a bank for years, I noticed that the people with biggest bank accounts typically didn’t look or dress like someone you would assume was rich. The people with the flashy clothes and lots of jewelry often were the ones coming in wondering why they were getting overdraft notices. Something I read somewhere once said that to tell if someone has money, look at their shoes. A lot of wealthy people don’t really care what their clothes look like but they generally do spend money on quality shoes. I remember Oprah said this once, that rich people save their money and will be wearing plain clothes and drive old cars so you can't spot them. Poor people will spend their entire paycheck on clothes and have CC debt because of it and thus will look flashy.

Do you have the LV phone case. I saw it online and was underwhelmed by it. I liked it but it looked heavy to me. I find LV in Hawaii to be the nicest people ever and the ones in Vancouver awful. I was looked at a Keepall and she decided I wasn’t dressed suitably enough. I contacted the company about her and she is no longer there. I had a nice SA on the Big Island but since they closed the store I just buy off the website. I hate dealing with them in Vancouver so much. Yes, I have an iPhone 8 cover. I love LV and my DH bought it for me as a surprise. While I would not have picked it myself -- I do like it. Its easy to put my DL + bank card into the little pocket and go about my day. This is the on I have. I think that is really cute! I am carrying an Azur purse for the summer and am going to get new vachetta on my monogram one. I have more than I should of Epi. They are cute though. We won’t talk about the vernis one. That makes me face palm myself.

Tiffany and Louis Vuitton have given me, hands down, the best service. Every time we are in either store or order online, they have treated me (and DH) like there were no other customers waiting and like we were purchasing a million bucks worth. When ordering online from either place, DH always gets a follow up phone call making sure he found what he needed, confirming what he wants written on the card, delivery day info, etc. While we were in Montreal last week, I stopped by LV to get them to look at my cell phone case. It was wearing more than I thought it should (loose threads and the case would never close all the way) so I stopped in to ask if this was normal. I've had the phone case for a year this month (bought in Las Vegas), so I wasn't really expecting anything to be done. They assured me it was not wearing correctly and exchanged it for me - on the spot. No questions. This was last Tuesday. I got a call on Friday from the Sales lady at the Las Vegas store - apologizing that it had not held up and asking if I was happy with how the Montreal store had handled my issue. If if you ever go to Hermes you'll find out quick you don't get to pick out your bag the sales people decide if your worthy enough for a Kelly or Berkin lol. I find it so fascinating how they run thier business.

I have sloped shoulders so a shoulder bag isn’t good for me. A cross-body is perfect. I will never learn.

I feel like I have only been judged for what I was wearing at one store ever. (Well two, but the other one was Forever 21 so who cares?!) It was a high end furniture store & I happened to be dressed like a scrounge that day. The sales lady looked me up & down & proceeded to ignore me. Little does she know I could have written a check to buy the whole f'ing business, lol. (Just kidding, but you know what I mean.) I've never stepped foot in the place again and I've spent a shit ton on expensive furniture elsewhere since then. I had a similar experience shopping with young children. I was well able to afford to buy the furniture. DH worked second shift at the time, so I had to bring them. I could not get waited on. I went into to look for a crib years ago and there were salesmen wandering around. I was clearly pregnant, but I had to take off my ring because of swelling. Not one person even looked at me. Took my husband the next week and two people were at our side by the time we got to the crib.

I always underdress when going to buy a car. Flashy jewelry will only make you pay more. They run your plates and get a credit check if you spend more than 5 minutes on the lot. That’s a violation of federal law if they don’t have your permission to run credit.

They never do a credit check on me, cause I won't supply any information to a car dealer until I've committed to purchasing the car at MY price and only then once we're in the finance office doing paperwork. They are not allowed to photo copy my license for a test drive, either. Car salespeople HATE me. My norm is 15 mins from the time I enter the lot to the time they agree to my price or I leave! I give them a few extra minutes if I need to test drive. I've been offered jobs while buying cars in the past. Please come help me buy a Honda truck! I wish I could. I used to do all of the car purchases for my friends. Ask me about the 5 minute deal w/a prior Honda dealership. We walked in the door, my friend went into the restroom and when he came out 5 minutes later it was time to go to the finance office. (I'm bragging!)

I don't understand how they would get to your credit information from running car tags? And I thought running tags for anyone but law enforcement/DMV (and for their investigative reasons only) was illegal.
I'm sure they are able to pull some info from your DL but car tags? Doubtful.

My sister and I were staying at Ceasar's Palace and had a bit of free time and were window shopping the stores. We are casually dressed middle aged southern girls and did not get acknowledged in half the stores. It got to be a game with us Chanel was our favorite store and we both bought.

I know how you dress can definitely affect the service you get in stores.
A billion years ago, when I was married and had just had my second child, I walked into a Dillards to buy clothes that weren't maternity. I know I didn't look great, and I felt pretty crummy about myself. So I got a wild notion that I'd go to the makeup counter and find a fresh look.
I approach the counter, the lady looks up, then continues putzing around, doesn't acknowledge me.
I continue looking until I see some face serum and had wanted to try it. I say, "Pardon me, miss. May I try this?"
And with a look that made me feel three inches tall, she says, "That's high end, and verrrry expensive."
I was young, and embarrassed. I left quickly, honestly thinking I might be accused of stealing, with the way she had looked at me.
Now, of course, I'm a different person, and would have put on my biggest smile as I asked to speak to a manager. But then? Mortified.

Also- the way you are dressed has nothing to do with it. It's how savvy you are. There isn't money to be made in the car itself these days. It's in the products and financing. ETA: They photo copy your license for insurance reasons. You are, after all, driving one of their vehicles. No credit can be run without your permission and you would see any hit on your report.SaveSave

Never judge a book by its cover. My husband’s parents were living in Conrad mt. They were friends with one of the richest men in Montana. Well Bob, the rich guy decided his wife need a new flashy diamond ring to go with his big new flashy check. He came into town wearing his oil field clothes, dirty as a mud hen, driving that beat up pickup. Bob stopped at the first jewelry store was looking at those big old flashy diamonds. The salesman walk over to him and said you should leave , you can’t afford anything here. Bob stared at him, and quietly walked out and right into the next store, where he bought a necklace, earrings, bracelet and a broach to go with that flashy diamond ring. Total price ?$25,000. On the condition that the salesman go back to the other store and thank that first salesman. He should have gone back...Pretty Woman!

I think it makes a difference, because salespeople are looking for "spenders". Someone dressed flashy looks like a spender, even if they are flat broke. "Big hat, no cattle," so to speak.
Someone not flashy looking might be a harder sell, more savvy about financing, fine print, etc. A harder sell, in other words.

I don't think it's jewelry per se, but being well dressed and looking prosperous absolutely gets you better service. I comment on it all the time, because I have had so many polar opposite experiences at the same store, when I am dressed up than when I am dressed down. it's maddening, actually.
sales people fall all over me when I have full face makeup and am dressed up. I get better tables at restaurants-you name it. it's a better experience overall.

You should know that they don't need your SS to pull your credit, but they can only do a soft pull and get limited information.
All they need is your full name, address and a DOB. Or they can do it if you use a credit card at a store for example, there's some way to do it backwards via the card you used.
Two examples (within the last decade, so possibly it's different now, but I sort of doubt it):
My ^%$#@ dentist did a soft pull I saw on my report, and I don't ever give doctors or dentists my SSN. When I called to chew them out, they said it was in case I wanted to finance work and they'd checked ahead of telling me my estimate and options as a "courtesy to me." I investigated it to see how they did it and if it was legal, and it was name and DOB they used and not exactly copacetic as I had not agreed. I made myself quite clear about if they ever even considered doing that again, and that was that. Probably should have left the practice, but dentist was amazing.
Second, I wanted to apply for a Home Depot account to get a further discount on a W/D over Labor Day. Instead of filling out an application, they looked at my ID and swiped my AmEx and got their answer back in about 3-5 minutes. (ETA this one was legal and on the up and up as I consented - this way you don't give your SS to a stranger in a hardware store; HD must rely on the card issuer to comment on the holder's creditworthiness and they don't learn much else.)
So I'm just saying, they clearly have ways - some legal and ethical, maybe some not.
